Yes, classical training since 5 with no breaks. He noticed that their piano at home was flat at about 4, so perfect absolute pitch, and better sign him up for the national music academy. In my opinion you have discovered the best singer in the world. He has perfect pitch and currently has a vocal range of 6 octaves. Not in one song (mostly anyway😅). However, if you include the notes he has sung live in his concerts so far, you get almost 8 octaves (7.7 from vocal fry C1 (B0) to the whistle register D8; this note is no longer on the piano). At least that's what he's shown us so far. And that in all registers. His voice is the result not only of his God-given talent, but also of his almost 25 years of daily hard training. From the age of 5 he attended music school in his hometown of Aktobe. He plays several instruments like piano, dombra (a kazach instrument), drums, marimba and more. He has classical as well as contemporary vocal training and sings in different genres from opera to pop, jazz, Kazakh folk, ballads and he even raps a bit. And often he skillfully mixes several genres in one song. Mainly classic and pop, so he created a new crossover genre. And meanwhile in more than 10 languages. The latest songs (from Tokyo Jazz Festival in November 2021) are Ikanaide in Japanese and at his concert in Almaty on September 23, 2022 he sang a new song in Spanish (about 7 languages in one concert!). And at his concert in Yerevan on April 29, 2023, he sang an Armenian folk song for the first time (it has to be about 15 languages so far). But he also works very hard to constantly improve his vocal skills. He said in an interview that he trains at least 3 hours every day, if necessary, it can be 10 hours to prepare for a concert. He loves swimming and also a lot under water. Maybe that's why he has this large lung capacity to hold the notes as long as he does. He's a singer you can't put in any box. Yes, it's live and yes he is a phenomenal vocalist and performer. He certainly is a once-in-a-lifetime talent! He is from Kazakhstan, started music school at age 5, has studied music ever since. He was offered a place in Astana Opera House, but decided he wants to pursue a cross-over, style of music. He studied jazz and pop also and today can sing all genres from Opera to pop, rock, folk, classical and he even raps. He sings in 12-14 languages, is a multi-instrumentalist and the most humble, down-to-earth, caring human on this planet. SOS is a song from a, 70's rock opers called Starmania, i believe, so not an original song, but nobody can sing it like Dimash. Oh yes, Dimash is also a composer and has composed some, amazing music. I hope you carry on with your Dimash journey as i promise you will be shocked and amazed at what this guy is able to do with his voice. I would suggest you look at Stranger next, also Sinful Passion, Olimpico, Love is Like a Dream and Ave Maria. Dimash is the real deal and hailed as the, worlds best singer. No, “SOS d’un terrien en détresse” is not an original, though of course Dimash altered it beyond its original limits. It is from a 1978 French Canadian rock opera “Starmania”. In its present format, it has been so identified with Dimash that he uses it as his “calling card”. Though amazing, this performance is but the tip of the iceberg of his talent. Dimash was born in Aktobe, in northwest Kazakhstan in a musical family. Both parents were trained singers, his grandfather played the dombra and his grandmother sang too. When Dimash was five, his grandmother started taking him daily to music school. By six, he won his first piano competition. His first voice teacher was his mother. He joined school choir and participated in musicals. He graduated from the Aktobe Music College where he’d trained as a tenor in classical singing, then earned his bachelor in Jazz and Contemporary Music from the National University of Art in Astana, where he also earned his Master’s in composition and is now almost done with his PhD in musicology. He's had classical training from the age of 5 years old, he can sing in 14 or 15 different languages, his talent always astounds me every time i hear his voice.
