    • I don't really like the SS Uniform style, its just too much black for my taste (not enough colour accent such as white and red). Nonetheless, i love the video. And looking forward for another video on military uniform style, their history, along with whatever symbolism they represent.

    • I liked it. Don't know if it's for everyone. I believe all discussions of fashion and style must begin with sociocultural context, and that means history. Why do U.S. residents think cowboy hats look cool, but sombreros look silly? It's the sociocultural context. Most AMCITS don't even know that their most iconic image -- the western cowboy -- is mostly a Mexican invention. I think understanding that context makes fashion and style more interesting and relatable. Everyone knows the swastika was the NAZI logo, but what of the NAZI brand? The NAZI brand was inevitability, ruthless persistence, and invincibility -- if those are your core beliefs and identity elements, then black is your ONLY choice for representing the brand. Camo -- such as our modern Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines wear -- represents ... what? It sure doesn't keep a sniper from whacking you, so why do we do it, and why do we change it so often? What is the U.S. military brand? What is our message? Unlike the NAZI's we no longer project our brand in our uniforms because we don't always want to be the same thing -- sometimes we are peacekeepers, sometimes we are bone-crushers, sometimes we are liberators, and sometimes we are unstoppable destroyers. So where's our brand, now? Not in our uniforms -- that's for sure -- all camo looks the same, at a distance. Our uniforms can no longer promote our brand, because the U.S. brand has become "tactics and technology." The SS was optimized for operations OTHER THAN WAR, and the stylish black uniform, so eloquently speaking to the NAZI brand, gave the SS the power to influence through fear. Fashion is ALWAYS about communication, and we all want our brand to be strength, confidence, honor, and integrity, tempered by generosity, self-sacrifice, and compassion. That is why a Marine makes a good men's style channel host: you already embody the brand which invokes the desired response in high-value women, and which commands the respect of all other men.

The silhouette, the length of the jacket, that structured collar, the belt, so much attention to detail. Of course, can’t forget those boots. That being said, I see the schultzstaffel (SS) uniforms as one of if not the most iconic military uniforms of the 20th century. As they seamlessly blend style, class and sophistication with a foreboding sense of terror and ruthlessness. Again, really enjoyed your video. Quite informative stuff. Anyways, thanks again and look forward to seeing more of your work.

    • Marine Corps, Army or or the NAVY dress slacks look terrible. In order to keep the tradition the US military branches have completely forgone the style that evolves over time. The main poroblem with US military slacks is that they are not even close to being tailored as the Nazis tailored their paints. The wide, even cut on the pants was a style 100 years ago when you could easily mass produce pants for the military and THAT became the tradition, that had no style at all. The bright red line and the bright blue pants just looks atrocious . You can see how much the BDUs have imporoved over time and how slimmer the pants have become, because they become easier to operate in. But dress slacks require no ease of use and therefore have never been improved.

  • Good video, and semper fi, brother fmr Marine. (Btw, my father fought at Iwo Jima, and was an officer in Korea, and was severely wounded.) The color black is definitely intimidating, and during my 18 years in Washington DC I met someone who told me that the US Secret Service had rejected the color white (which would have made sense in a hot, humid, sticky southern city, reflecting the sun's rays ) and was adamant that its vehicles had to be black -- for that intimidating effect you brought up. This applied, of course, to "the Beast" -- the presidential limousine -- and to all the SUVs that accompany it or protect visiting VIPs. When some foreign prime minister, king or president visits DC, there are four of these SUVS that surround his vehicle, especially if they hit a red light, and they all are jet-black. Oh, and the Marine Corps officer's dress uniform is also black, whereas that of enlisted Marines is dark (navy) blue.

Approximately 40 years later, no signs from his father at any point, suddenly, an inheritance appears out of nowhere. My father's friend goes to claim it, everything was inside one of those old travelling trunks. Making it extremely expensive, thus only available to the rich and powerful. Eventhough at the time of the nazis it was more accessible, there was still this subconscious association that they where wearing black and thus must be of high status and rich. I definitely believe they have one of the best uniforms of history (those nazis). Not only the quality of those suits was clearly visible but, to me, it was the fearless attitude of those men. They're sheer certainty in their power, the cold look in their eyes, their elegant and stealthy movements. They believe they were superior to the entire world and they have no problem to convey that. Those uniforms not only were well fitted but I'm sure they would strike fear even today. The atrocities they committed while well dressed will forever live in infamy but also in the books of fashion. So iconic and feared that most armies stay away from red and black.

  • The Germans also created a focus group who's responsibility was to observe and evaluate the attractiveness of uniforms which were being developed for the German soldiers under the Nazi Reich. The evaluators were women, since the uniforms were also to be used for purposes of recruitment from German citizenry. I have worn these German uniforms (Wehrmacht) as a WWII reenactor and understand their appeal as a propaganda tool. They project efficiency and masculinity as part of their design, not only intimidation. The arms are shorter by modern standards. The sleeve cuff terminates at the wrist, not below as in modern suits. Also, the belt line was raised to about the naval. The effect was to make the soldier appear taller that he really was, an image of strength.

He continued to serve in reserve status until after the war. Once his time was fulfilled re went back to his family home. His main regret was not ever seeing combat. Chairman mao must be terrifying , then or Stalin's cheka.....(they too wore uniforms) and both killed many times, what hitler's troops did. then amerika starved 2 million german soldiers who surrendered. The death count of the USA.....has surpassed hitler's Germany. I think that real evil is most often very banal looking........like the bankers wall street financiers, that often fund both sides. The difference is germans did it and also, looked amazing because they are brilliant designers and always have been. As a people who is visually focused. they make the best lenses in the world, except maybe Japan-- (also a very visual people). Which means they are vulnerable to Visual, manipulation. It would never have worked in Ireland say... uniform will do no good there-- (it would probably be relentlessly mocked) they'd need stories and songs....a very audial people. Quite a different sort of people. In other words Germany had to have fabulous uniforms because of the nature of the german psyche. it would not have worked well otherwise. any people can be manipulated, you just have to know they key.

    • @@joejacquesschulz8514 LoL! Have you seen the British TV show "Allo 'Allo!"? There was a German SS officer by the name of Her Flick. My dad had a long black leather overcoat like that and I wore that clueless in the class. Needless to say, the next day I was known as Her Flick in the entire school!😆😆😆
