  • I remember going to the Science Museum as a kid and they had a curved track which sloped downhill slightly and you could try out all these different sets of wheels to see which would stay on and which wouldn't. I figured out which ones were best at staying on just fine, but never figured out why. It all finally makes sense!

  • The flange on the wheel is also a part of guiding the wheel through switches and their gaps, and picking up the tapered rail when the switch is thrown.

  • OK, that makes sense if the train is banking on the right..but what about if it banks to the left ?? Where's the friggin' video tape.?? lol :o) ( I'm sure the wheels must be "angled" equally on both sides?
