  • I hate how teachers always turn a blind eye to bullying and always seem to ignore the bullying until the victim does something drastic because they can't take it anymore, and at that moment the teachers are always there to protect the bully and Villainise the the victim. It's a sad world we live in.

It is, after all, their bad actions that got them attention and, as such, they must continue this behavior to keep up their base, without whom they would't really matter. • The last scene on the basketball court is telling. His friends are willing to drop Vassilis as "the coolest kid" in an instant, once he physically isn't cool any more because of his injury. This shocks him, but is not completely unrealistic, seeing as his connection to his "friends" is not based on friendship. He is the current fad. He is forced to resort to humiliating the little boy, who's the only one available for his purpose. He doesn't explain the real cause of his injury because that would mean admitting he was bested by the guy who, among his friends, is the lowest of the low, the weakest of the weak, a homosexual. All the adults here are awful, including Dimitris' mother. I can hear her saying, "Oh, he's going through a phase." Perhaps all teenagers do go through "a phase." But until you find out what is causing "the phase," there is no way to know if it is a serious problem or not. I hate how adults use that excuse for not doing the hard work of finding out what is going on in their child's mind. She's worried about orange juice. The Vice Principal, or whoever she is, knows there is something wrong, but the best she can manage is "Do you want to tell me something?" and doesn't follow it up even after the long pause before Dimitris' response, indicating that there is indeed a "something." Too much trouble for her too. By the way, if this is not a parochial school, and this is the way things are still done today, how 'bout chucking the prayer altogether, Greek authorities, though it is an excellent device to unify the film.

And that emotional dependence on the abuser, which he can't control since he's unable to comprehend it, fills him with self-doubt, anger, guilt, and resentment. At recess he chased after me trying to harm me for telling and I ran to the teacher. She told me that I can't be chased if I don't run in the first place. I went home with bruises. My parents gave me permission to defend myself. I'd had self defense classes and was only afraid of getting in trouble. The next day he cornered me in the restroom and I beat him so badly that I had to be carried away. The teacher coddled the bully and tried to have me expelled until my parents came in with pictures of my bruises and documentation of each incident and how she handled it. Years later I had a college class with the teacher's niece(they had a very unique surname) and she told me the woman was absolutely nuts and was even worse with family members.

Everyone has their theories, but it's just from looking at a clip, not the whole picture. The bully never really bullies the shy boy directly and covers for him when he gets pushed down the stairs. Did they have a history we don't know about? Is bully a bully because he's hiding his gay? His home life is obviously rough. I want the full story

    • It's a short - unfortunately, you're not going to get any more than what's been given. Did we even watch the same clip? Because I'm pretty sure the antagonist bullies the protagonist on the bus and again in class with the love note. I also agree w. others that Vassilis was just covering his a$$ so he didn't look weak in front of his friends. He wasn't covering for Dimitri even if he acknowledged him at the end. You can draw from the flashback of when Dimitri was watching Vassilis that he was pretty much into him from the edited slow motion of him lifting up his shirt. At the same time he's petrified of him and what he might do during school prayer because he witnessed him bullying other students in addition to being bullied himself. It's pretty well-established that most vocal homophobes suffer from internal homophobia and I'm sure there's some toxic parenting going on at home, but I don't think his father being pissed at hitting him for acting out in class is disproportionate to what parents who believe in corporal punishment would do.

  • Vassilis plays around a lot but is definitely not the usual awful MEAN High School bully; he's mostly just a show-off popular kid entertaining his friends...also notice too, he NEVER actually *bullies* Dimitri...almost never even speaks to him. Seems to me Vassilis is more confused, fascinated, puzzled--about his feelings--for this beautiful solemn boy who is always staring at him. Vasssilis finds himself returning those stares.... perhaps gradually discovering his own *difference* .. He is aware that the moody dark-haired Dimitri likes him *that* way...but has no idea how to respond or what to do about it (yet). So, when the frustrated dark-haired boy desperate for his attention deliberately trips him on the stairs, Vassilis protects Dimitri and says nothing . He did not want adults, or his friends and followers further tormenting Dimitry. 🔥❌❤ What happens next are a set of open possibilities outside this movie. But I want to think that they become friends and find a way to work out their relationship to each other while they also discover the truth about their developing personal identities.💥🔥

But mostly, I think, Dmitri is physically attracted to him, in spite of the fact that he acts like a jerk. It happens in life all the time. And Vassilis is clearly basking in Dmitri's desire... he even purposely shows off his bare torso to him. Probably attracted to the beautiful but shy boy, but must appear oh so macho among his friends to ever reveal it. The subtleties expressed here are complex and terrific.

This is not what is marketed in most the commercially sold populist hero stories produced in these times. It makes me think a lot. Teenaged empaths as boys face specific challenges. Especially those who are level six. Ironic they are often mistaken as lacking male qualities. But they do not make an easy story for the Writer for all the interesting qualities they posess. • That is one of the most beautiful human faces I have ever seen. He's a good actor too. So this is a religious school but is also a complete dump covered in grafiti, with hostile teachers (TWO of them) and discipline problems everywhere? I find it implausible that Dimitri would be hot for the "popular" guy. He is so completely an asshole with zero redeeming qualities. I guess Dimitri could have a masochistic streak which would explain things. Despite its flaws, it's a well-made film and the acting is good.

  • This is a good short film - there’s a complete story from beginning to end. Some comments didn’t like the end but I thought it was just right: Dimitri and Vassili stare at each other and 1) Vassili knows that Dimitri had the guts to push him & 2) they know that they are attracted to each other but won’t do anything about it. The bully is often the insecure one (just watch the way he walks when his parents come to the school & his father hits him on the head). It’s a believable story. Technically there were issues with uneven lighting, and some very long shots needed to be shorter. And lastly, none of those guys can play basketball at all. They can’t even dribble. They were so bad that it was a distraction. Otherwise, this short film works well.

  • I guess I just didn't get it. The beautiful and bullied introvert moons over one of the bullies who make his life miserable. The teachers and principal pretend not to know what's going on. The bullied boy responds with violence and gets away with it. No one learns anything. No one's issues are resolved. Life goes on as usual. Okay, so maybe it's realistic, but we already knew that.
