Leicester City are off to the worst start the Premier League has ever seen, with 7 losses in their opening 9 games. Brendan Rodgers faces intense pressure to turn things around at the King Power before they find themselves battling relegation for the season.
Last year they were Europa Conference League semi-finalists with a top half finish, Jamie Vardy and James Maddison also featured in the league's top goal scorers. So what exactly has changed for the Foxes?
Carl Anka joins us to discuss the problems growing at Leicester and just how they could be solved.

Carl Anka gives so much fun energy to what I thought was gonna be a dour explainer. So nice!
Yup great presenter
Very good. I also just realised all tifo presenters have a similar and effective style. This, paired with good writing, makes for quality across the pitch. That last sentence being an example of their writing style. Try saying it tifo style. Great game plan.
@@futurebrilliantteam8851 Eh I'd prefer if he didn't try and imitate and they were just themselves a bit more
Karl did a great job with the analysis. Although it did seem as if he was copying some of JJ's mannerisms. Is he just similar or is he trying to copy a successful formula?
I knew he was fun from his appearances on various pods for The Athletic, Tifo seems like a room where everyone just instantly loses all self control and becomes mad with excitement over tactical explainers
Daka's goals per minutes ratio suggests he's not the problem. He can be the front man they need but the rest of the team has regressed so much around him since he arrived
I love daka
He's great but the team around him struggles to adapt to a non-Vardy style
Patson Daka hasn't kicked on? He got into double figures for goals last season despite not being first choice and already has 4 goals so far this season. Same as last season supposed professionals in the footballing space are claiming he is a flop. I honestly don't think any of them have seen him play.
Daka sucks he dosent do anything apart from score goals, he pretty much not involved in any other part. Plus 8 goals in 32 games is dreadful
@@sleevemcdichael5841 he scored 5 goals in the league last season and 3 this year hardly getting better.
This had a much more chaotic energy than I expected. More Carl!
Imagine him on the podcast with Joe Devine
@@gimmibox imagine a podcast with all the guys without the annoying comments and sounds from joe divine

Carl is always excellent! Please have him on as often as he's available.
I'd argue Daka took last season to adapt, yes, but this season he's doing OK for himself, I think he's the least of their issues this season
CAAAAARRRLLL (honestly please get Carl on more often he's great)
man said ward was a young goalie, clearly he just reads the script and has no clue what he said
@@EugenesBackpack he’s 29, so as a goalie he still most likely has about 10 years left of his career, so he is still pretty young for a goalie
@@thebignoz name one 39 year old in the prem, why would you even respond such nonsense
@@EugenesBackpack goalie player for longer than outfield players, how do you not know this? Old would be more like young 30s and over, not 20s
@@EugenesBackpack Wow you missed the point entirely. 28-29 for outfield players is their prime, then they start to peak at 30, then decline afterwards apart from a few exceptions (Totti, Zlatan, Silva etc.) but goalies can go on to play till they're in their 40s because they don't have to perform at the same level of intensity as outfield players do, so even if their body starts to regress, they're still capable of being a goalkeeper.
Carl Anka was great! Awesome host
I think Carl's first appearance has proved that we need more Carl. He is definitely worthy of being trapped inside a scattergram... or at least trapped into talking to someone trapped inside a scattergram.
we havent had a new song from JJ in a while.. could he be working on a Carl tribute song?
@@kaboodlefish ??
Great video Carl. The comical thing about the Spurs game is Maddison came out after and said they’d been working all week on set pieces 😂
To be fair we only got in our set piece coach that week. He wasn’t going to make the worse team at set pieces that much better in his first week. But he would of probably been working the players as soon as he started.
"It's not looking good brev" was such a class funny moment, couldn't agree more with everyone's comments about Carl's energy. Please make him a Tifo regular would be so good on the pod.
The Jamie Vardy downfall has really added to the poor form of Leicester. Daka was always going to take time, and was he ever going to replace the 20+ goals Vardy brought? Leicester are naturally falling to where abouts they should be. Midtable, pushing for top 10/conference league position. I think they will stay up (3 teams worse than them) and then next year we will see them level out with a big overhaul of squad and almost definitely under a new manager. Every team below 7th should just be modelling themselves on Brighton..
the funny thing is 2 years ago everyone was supposed to be modelling themselves on Leicester, a few years before that it was Southampton. Recruitment is very hit & miss. Leicester have a decent hit rate but got into problems because we over-recruited to cover European football & paid players at a European football level. When we need to get rid of these over-paid players because we don't have European football we can't find clubs to move them to who will pay for them & pay them at the same wage. So Rodgers won't play them, but Leicester are still paying them so can't buy anyone else who may fit in better.
Yes Carl Anka! Southampton legend
Wouldn’t describe 29 years old Danny ward as a young keeper, he’s middle aged.
Was going to type the same thing! Ward is older than Pickford
He is young, just not young in football years
29 is young for goalkeepers LOL. goalkeepers are seemingly in their prime at 33
@@bruhmomentseverywhere if this is the case why has no first choice goalkeeper of a premier league team been over 30 since Edwin in 09/10? Hart, de gea, courtois, Kasper, ederson and Alisson.
@@j10ant what are you on about? Schmeichel was 35 when he left Leicester, Dubravka is over 30 and has been Newcastle’s starting keeper for years, Fabianski is 37 and has been starting for years, Lloris is 35, Guaita 35, Petr Cech, Ben Foster… I can keep going????
Love Carl's energy! Please get him on more often
Thanks for covering Leicester; glad to see my club get some attention. Shame it had to be on a historically bad start
I know this guy doesnt need our validation, but he is brilliant. Get him on the podcast and more vids please.
Nice to see Tifo bringing in some of The Athletic people. Would love to see Carl Anka more, or maybe guest appearance on the podcast
Joe would not be able to put up with Carl's competing chaotic energy
Is Danny Ward not like 29/30, even for a goalkeeper I wouldnt say thats young
One of the things that has killed Leicester's ability to counter press after losing the ball is that teams in the Premier League have splashed some huge cash on press resistant players. So pressing is no longer as effective as it used to be, I feel like the aggressive press was effective because it was still new and a lot of teams hadn't learned how to get around it bar the top teams in Europe. Nowadays a lot of teams in the Prem have got players that can play around pressing situations with relative ease and that's also another factor that I think needs to be considered. The tactical evolution of the league, as well as other top leagues in Europe is why teams like Leicester and Liverpool are struggling a bit, because the press was a huge part of their identity. I agree with most of the stuff you have said in this video, the content on this channel is always full of good insight, keep up the good work. 👊
Gotta love Carl. One of the best journos/analysts about, oozing charisma & sense of humour. Would love to see him on Tifo more often x
The problem with Leicester is that Rodgers said he wanted to get rid of about 6 players and have a refresh after the Forest FA cup defeat. He probably told these players, or let it be known that he no longer wanted them at the club, but due to FFP or the club not being completely convinced of Rodgers summer refresh, he is now stuck with them. I can imagine if I worked for a business and my manager turned round to me and said: "I don't want you here, and your not good enough", then I think I wouldn't give 100%.
Wouldn't say Danny Ward is a young goalkeeper like Carl said, he's 29. Has a few years ahead sure, but should be established at that age
This was brilliant, would love to see more of Carl
Only read Carl Anka's work written before, possibly once on a podcast? But on the tactics-board he's come alive! Great video, even greater energy!
The problem is with the defence. LCFC's defenders are actually just average players who exceed expectations in a season or two, and then just rolls back down to their default settings. It can also be observed in their asking prices. Maguire had one or two good seasons and a good WC in 2018, so they asked 80m from Man Utd. It happened again with Soyuncu, when City were interested in him after a good season and they were ready to ask about 70m for him. Luckily for City, they realized it in time and went for Ruben Dias instead. This is also why most Chelsea fans were against the signing of Fofana, especially for that amount of money. Justin and Castagne looked sharp at the start but look at them now. With Schmeichel leaving, the defence became really exposed and Vardy's decline upfront isn't helping either. Still got quality midfielders like Madds and Tielemans though.
Love Carls energy!! Tifo let Carl do more videos!
Whilst Leicesters recruits haven't hit the heights of the old guards its clear that someone at Tifo IRL knows what there doing because Carl is exactly in keeping with the tone and quality we have come to expect.
thanks for the video. love carl anka, especially when he had his cameo on the overlap
Anka finally!
Rodgers' honeymoon is over, as happened to more decorated EPL managers before him such as Mourinho and Tuchel. An unstable system usually requires a strong CF, who can do hold-up play well, do high press frequently and be the team's pivot in front-line
Rodgers has a 3 year shelf life, same at Liverpool, celtic and now Leicester
@@00dude3 Swansea aswell
WE LOVE ANKA!
Either you die a hero or live long enough to be as mad as the rest of the Tifo people. Loving this energy
Good summary! One thing I would add, and it’s possible to Devine from numbers but hard to put a finger on what is that Leicester have this real inability to kill games off when in an objectively advantaged position (a man up or a goal up). I put it the case is that the players aren’t given the tools to bustle through games and it means they get frustrated and collapse when the effort of being purely technical doesn’t work.
as soon as we get up rodgers poos himself and goes defensive and makes silly subs. he needs to go but hes in his own head and doubting himself
"It's not looking good brev" 😂😂😂😂
I feel the tactics board imparts some of Joe and JJ's chaotic energy to those using it. Joe and JJ charmed it.
Love the presentation. More of Carl please!
This was informative and entertaining, great job from this guy Carl! More him please 👍
Great analysis and a more than fair question about their results. Hope to see you bac
carl is brilliant👏 great explainer. personally think daka has been a rare bright spot this season and a very smart replacement for vardy.
Carl Ankha did a great job, explaining this issue with Leicester. He did this in an energetic humourous style, whilst not skimping out on important information. Would like to see him present more videos.
Such a great surprise seeing carl on the Tifo feed :) love listening to him
What tactics board are y'all using?
The channel getting revived Yay Carl Anka!!!

Glad to see a video from Carl!
Carl might just be my new favorite Tifo presenter. We need him on the podcast alongside JJ and Joe. Make it happen, Tifo.
Love Carl Anka! More please! Loads of energy and buzz, fits Tifo nicely!
This was so fun, please get Carl on again!
Good analysis. Don't forget that Ndidi was injured for most of the last season, so I guess he is also not really up to speed yet in terms of match fitness. Added to this is this general loss of team confidence.
Great energy, well explained!
Carl's looking good bruv! 🔥
Honestly a lack of investment and thinking they could go into this season not replacing Kasper Schmeichel who kind of represented that team and was a really good goalkeeper. You can see the players lack of motivation when they are playing. I feel there is some issues that we aren't made aware of with the owners. Also feel like they need a new manager to bring in some new ideas and energy. Also as an LFC fan we were not good at defending set pieces when Rodgers was the manager.
Great video, love it when tifo makes Leicester videos
This is an excellent analysis. Well done.
Carl made that really fun and interesting. More of him please!
Thank you for doing this. It's good to understand why we are so bad right now. The one point I would argue is that I think Daka is getting into the groove of things now. He was starved of chances but he's been scoring recently!
More from Carl please! :)
Carl needs to do more of these videos
Love this break down. Love the energy
Danny Ward is 29 years old not a young goalkeeper at all. Inexperienced at a high level maybe
Ward a young goalkeeper!? He’s 29!!😂
Just a kid
21 seconds in and I *NEED* more Carl Anka on the tactics board. Please and thank you.
Anka-man! Just made my day seeing him do a video
carl anka energy is bonkers and chaotic, love this more of ankaa!!!
Carl is really fun to watch. Hope he gets on here more.
They just aren't built right. Defence is too slow to keep a high line while the midfield isn't athletic or committed enough to trouble the other team's build up. They have plenty of good quality attacking options but there's no one to press and get the ball to actually get the ideal situations which are ball dropping to Maddison/Tielemans and them picking a pass to a pacey striker on the break.
Carl's great at this! More of Carl ❤️
Love his energy!! More Carl on videos
very good in depth video.
More Carl on tifo, please!!!!!! This was great.
Carl is THE BEST, adds so much to all he touches. Love the energy and the insight.
Great video, Carl was great 👍
Loved this from Carl Anka! Danny Ward is 29 though...not so young 😅
Great video. It has been said by many, but Carl has fantastic energy
Thought Carl would also mention the depature of Schmeichel and how he commanded his defence. Danny Ward doesn't quite have the same presence
This was exceptional. Can we please see more of Mr. Anka on Tifo?
More Carl! This was awesome!!!
Always love Carl Anka man. More please
Carl is a great writer and now a fun presenter too
Brilliant host, please have him on more often!
More Carl on Tifo please!
Love how the Zidane Madrid 5, along with the Ronaldo 9 @ Inter and Maldini, remains irreplaceable on the wall. Kudos to Tifo. Iconic.
I was gripped from start to finish with this video, fantastic job 👍🏻
Great to see the Ankaman on tifo
YES CARL! Idk if he's been on the tactics table before, but I enjoy reading his articles.
Carl's presentation was great, surprisingly liked it! Good job.
Carl Anka is an entertaining presenter and I love it. Speaks so well about so much
Carl is enjoy to watch! I subs cause of him
First time seeing Carl. Get him on the podcast!

Well done. Always like the humor. "Those are some difficult passes [for Ndidi]. These players should probably drop a little bit deeper. Dewsbury-Hall and Tielemans: "you got it!"
