Pouring more February concrete. I am starting to remember why I take the winters off from pouring.

Father and son side by side finishing concrete on a cool winters night! Living the good life! Nice job!
Thanks It was an interesting job. LOL
That's crazy poring concrete in that weather if that was my own house I wouldn't allow it but then we don't get extremely bad weather here in Ireland I'd be concerned about the ice underneath it will create voids I suppose no one will ever see it. INTERESTING VIDEOS 👍👍
Hey Bondo. That looked so miserable shovelling and breaking ice on the pour site. You are a good soldier.
Thanks we could not leave it under there.
Worked in the building trades for fifty years. Remember the miserable days where winter is just unforgivable. Live in Massachusetts and now I’m glad I’m done. But I still miss the guys.
Man. That was painful to watch. I can't imagine performing under that kind of pressure with almost no control over anything other than showing up on the job ready to work with your talented crew. No control over the weather, the condition and timing of the mud arriving, having to re-prep the receiving area, dealing with equipment issues, and dwindling daylight. Amazing. Hats off to you Mr. Bond and your crew. What a group of professionals in every sense of the word. I hope the builder/developer understands the care and quality of the work he received regardless of the price.
Hey man I’ve watched all your videos and have learned a lot thanks for taking the time to help guys like me learn more about concrete. I’m also from New York and this is some weather we’ve been having. Alright take care.
Thats awesome glad the videos are helpful. It is a crazy warm end of winter LOL
I don't envy you and the crew today. Everything works a little harder in the cold. Bet everybody had a good night sleep!
You know we did. LOL
That’s dedication right there. Good job. The builder should be happy.
He was 😀
Bondo we call the haunches grade beams
Oh cool I have heard them called that before too.
Nice recovery Ron. I was a little anxious at the beginning, but you pulled through. It was so cold, I had to put on my Carhartts on just to watch! LOL
Thats funny uncle Jim. 😀
Right on, Bondo! I don't miss that shit. I poured an elevated slab in January in Nebraska about 8 years ago, total pain int he ass. It was for a rich, strange dude who was happy to pay my price. He built a wood stove to heat it, which I thought was kinda' cool, but when he started burning tires in it, we bailed for the day. It was 60 x 70, 8" thick with 2 mats of heavy steel. We tied the bottom mat with #8, 1 'rebar 12" on center. the top mat was #6, 3/4', 12' on center. Just a nightmare. I'd love to kill a case of PBR with you and tell lies for a day, keep "em coming!
Getting her done brother.👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Nice work fellas! It's that time of the year, working late to get it done!
Boom Shucka Lucka! Nice work
I don't miss those days!
Ya it was a pain. LOL
Concrete batch plants can have a hard time starting up in cold weather. All the water pipes freeze, the admixtures freeze, the aggregate freezes into clumps which block the weigh hopper, the air compressor won't start, the conveyor belt freezes to the skirt rubber and trips the motor overload, the gates on the weigh hopper won't open, the stones stick to the frozen weigh hopper. Just so much to go wrong at once. And I'm in Australia! I would hate to try it somewhere really cold. We get down to about 14°F here but not much snow.
Working in the cold is always twice as hard, but as the old guy I used to work for would say " It beats eating snowballs". Glad you could get out of the house. Stay warm!
I like that eating snowballs. LOL
🎉🎉 Good job 👍 Men.... I'll be back 💪 for an nother video 📸.... Thanks 👍....... JJ....😊
Long cold day. Came out good
Thanks it was a cold one. LOL
No blankets, no heat on a sub zero night. Good Luck
Bondo busting butt. I hope the check clears. And thanks for letting the dogs get some vid time.
Thanks ya Row wants to get out to the jobs soon. LOL
Excellent work guys.
Thank you very much!
How I ended up following you I just don’t know. I had a small concrete slabby to do one day and looked for some guidance. Found you guys and now eagerly await each video. I love your team and your challenges! Thanks for showing all, even the jobs that don’t go too well. Go for it, guys! Love to you and your bunch of hard working lads from South Africa.
Great video Bando! The only way you get me out in that cold is if I’m going deer hunting. Y’all hustled right through it, and did a fine job. Hopefully the weather was warmer for the remaining slab. Keep up the awesome work and videos Thank you
Sitting by the wood stove with a brandy and a beer would be a great ending!
Thank you, the audio was perfect! That made a huge difference in watching your videos/ I can hear you and now I don't have to keep adjusting the volume/ Thanks!
good job Bondo!!!!!
Thank you! 😃
This is NOT ACCEPTABLE. I am in NW Indiana and per code. temp must be 32 degrees and rising to pour. The next day it must be no colder than 26. The concrete will be full of voids. Just so you know, I have poured over 300,000 CY so I know just a little bit. I hope you sent the builder an exception that the concrete is NOT warrantied.
We talked to builder and he wanted to move forward.
Yeah, I thought the rule was no below freezing temps for the first 48 hours of hydration. Just glad that the builder wasn’t building my house. The concrete won’t have the full psi strength but it’s also not a heavy equipment shop either so…
@@bondobuilt386 The problem is the bottom of the pours concrete will melt the ice and turn your 4 in of slump into 12" of slum with no strength. Depending on the thickness of ice, you could have 1" from the top of the slab be 4,000 psi and the rest powder. With the cold, I didnt see have blankets so the top will freeze and there goes the whole slab. I have had GC's try to push me when I had my concrete business, but I refused. Nothing but head aches.
It was a bad decision on both their parts, that concrete is toast.
Bisket looking good in those suspenders 👍🏻.
I think so too!
very impressive pour under the conditions. Really enjoyed the informative and humorous commentary as well. Keep it up.
thanks I will keep them coming.
Wow! Ray
👍
I love ur house.. very nice.
Thank you so much 😊
We pour all year in Chicago we usually would cover that up with blankets a week before we pour
Ya they should have but it was a big rush for this builder
Awesome video! Great that u added music to the video as well!! Great content an Great work keep the videos coming BONDOOOOOOOOOO
Thanks! Will do!
When you come up to Alaska to do the piers we talked about you should be ready tls Jeff
I think it time for a ground heater unit. If your going to pour year around you will need one
I don't want to pour all winter LOL
we have stihl br600 and br700 back pack blowers for blowing out ice, snow, ice and stihl bg86 handhelds for when we cut concrete with chopsaws. we poured a 10 yd garage yesterday inside and it was 64 degrees and today it was 3 degrees above zero and got 4-6 inches of snow. it was the record temperature swing in our area. we're not back to work, it was just a really nice day and it was a small job we knocked out. one less little thing when we do start. i have a 4 ft wood bullfloat i open floors back up with after i bullfloat it with the 6ft'er if im going to machine it on floors i want it to go faster. it definitely makes a difference time wise but you have to be on your game or you can end up struggling to lay it down at the end. floors look nice, guys. good work. the concrete life. truthfully, i wouldnt want to be doing anything else.
Winter work! Money for your house down south and forget the cold
I like the break in the winter. This is not the norm for me to pour in winter.
Always hated cold morning pours ! We started using a 1 1/2 yard laydown bucket on an all terrain fork lift kept the mixer on the road filled up the bucket and boomed the bucket in to where we needed it ! Instead of wheeling it ! Worked out real well ! We got the floors poured in no time !
Thats a good way to move the mud. 😀
Tell your guys not to stand under that conveyor, not a safe practice at all, especially with the cold weather, the hydraulics are cold, and the oil is thicker than normal, if the wrong hose blows, that arm drops faster than they can move, I’ve seen it happen. When it’s this cold instead of using the metal bull float, make yourself a float head out of red wood, with a pivot head bolted to it, it won’t draw the moisture to the top like the metal, but it will still smooth the concrete enough to make finishing easier. I did it for years. I used either 1x8, or 1x6, whatever length you choose. Red wood never warps.
Thanks
Of course you're helping the builder out he told you it was 100% ready order concrete
I was surprised it was all full of snow.
Love this channel....learning the in and out of pouring the MUD. Hate watching pony tailed DIYers in flip flops telling me dry pour is the way to go or listening to the story of off grid living. Get warmed up boys as another job well done
I've been doing concrete work for 2 weeks and I know everything there is to know about it I wouldn't pour on standing snow have you have a poured a wall with a snow in it make the great walkout
Burly... Get er done. Time for da suaua
lol butt crack is just another way to say a bicycle parking lot lol happens to almost everyone at some point just means ya working hard and he is a hard worker for sure nice job guys
Happens to me too. LOL
like 3, snow additive lol, snow ball concrete lol, take care hero amen
Snow additive LOL
33 👍's up BB thank you for sharing 😅
You bet thank you.
I would of never thought that concrete could even be poured in that low of temperature.
I don't like to.
Try pumping up 80 floors in 15°weather the concrete in the pipe freezes then it's bar time
Oh hell no. that sucks.
Heated pressure washer would get the ice out, but still extra water to deal with.
I'm surprised no tarping after complete? Certainly, a few issues to deal with on this pour.
It was a pain for sure.
why are you trying to pour in the winter ?
nice job ron. where's jess these days? she not working for you anymore?
wouldn't the floor freeze at night
Yes it can.
I’m surprised that they even allow the use of cement blocks any more on new homes.
nice job. we will prevail. you better lose the guys number for calling you in on this one.😉
LOL it was an experience.
I will return the favor Chris. LMAO
Do you use hot water in your mix
yes we do.
When you’re built like Biscuit (and I am), suspenders make life better. Get him some Lederhosen for warmer months 😜
I will tell him that.
I’m loving the suspenders it’s nice not having to pull up my pants all the time or deal with a belt Big biscuit
not on my build! 🥶
How in the HELL can you pour in this weather !!!! ?? Good luck !
It was crazy.
👍👍👍🇺🇸
will that need blankets tonight
It could have used them if it was not so soft.
you used that Biscuit Brand Pump®©™ to pump a big piece of that $1,800 into the Bondo wampum bag
That is a powerful pump. LOL
Did you feel the concrete to see if it was over 70 degrees
No I did not.
Rowe sleeping in on a cold morning...................... can't blame him one bit!
Me neither. LOL
Why isn't the truck steaming from the hot water if they don't have hot water that's another 4 hours minimum
They have hot water but it was a drive to get there.
What's a haunch for ?
It is for a load bearing wall
Should of tarped it!
It was to soft. It should have been in hours before we got it done.
How can you pour on frozen base?😮
Isn’t he pouring over foam? I assume the foam is keeping the base underneath thawed
@@nrehbergthe garage floors. I figured in that sever of cold the garage gravel would of froze and there would be frost in the ground. He said it was like 8 degrees F. I'm just wondering, I have very little experience and just trying to gain knowledge.
Here just south of Albany I’m ready to pull the chains off the tractor and start brush hogging
They had just put the gravel in the garages. The rest was on the foam. @@deeanparris7262
Yup. @@nrehberg
Big biscuit looks like medium biscuit.
Yup he lost a few.
@@bondobuilt386 Good for him.
Thanks I’m down 35 pounds this winter Big biscuit
Out here snatching long form views left and right
Ya buddy. Pouring 60 yards tomorrow. This is crazy. 😀
2% chloride 2% non chloride
That is way too late to be working in the winter. I can't even guess how the plant or the builder deals with the cost over-runs of winter concrete. It seems high risk for you, even if you are working on a time and materials basis. If something goes wrong, the builder is going to blame you, even if you warned him. Why is the builder not telling his customer that there is too much risk, and too much cost over-run?
Normally I give Bondo a good rating, but this time it wasn’t a good decision.
The wire po po😂. Wire wizards. Wire whiners. Wire criers. lol.
wire watchers. LOL
Guarantee nothing!!
exactly.
