The Golden Retriever is one of the world's most popular dog breeds. The breed’s friendly, tolerant attitude makes him a great family member and companion, and his intelligence makes him a highly capable working dog. Golden Retrievers excel as therapy and assistance dogs, are natural born athletes, and do well in dog sports such as agility and competitive obedience. Thank you to Golden Meadows Retrievers for allowing us to capture their beautiful Golden Retrievers, making this Dogumentary TV series possible!

  • I got Ruby when I was 8. She saw me learn to ride a bike, graduate middle school and get my drivers license. She was there for some of my biggest milestones but died 2 days before I graduated. Greatest dog/friend I could've ever ask for. miss her everyday

    • adopted mine while he was already 18 months. his previous owner didnt know what to do with him and kept him in a cage smaller than he was. he is now with me for coming a year. i wasn't so sure tbh at first but we had become so attached since. all said, i hope despite your loss.. you will still find joy for i am sure she is etched forever in your heart. may she bring a smile to your face and give you renewed strength whenever and wherever you are through out the days of your life. take care.

    • I got my first golden retriever when I was 6 and he was about 3 years old when I got him. (His name was Oliver) We got him the same day he got put in the shelter and he was the only dog there that wasn't barking and jumping up in his shelter almost as if he was waiting for me. I remember the first thing he did when we got him home was he walked up to the sofa and pissed on it like "this is mine now" The same day I went out into the back yard to play fetch with him and if I got him excited enough he would sprint around the yard like a mad man. The first time I went on a walk with him we saw a female golden retriever beautiful thing it even had a blue bow on its neck. Oliver ran off with it and we thought we lost him about a hour later he comes back on his own looking so proud of himself. I didn't know at the time what he did but as I got older I realized what he did. Anyway he always was happy he had really pronounced black lips so you could tell when he was smiling and he was always smiling and often you could see his front teeth my mom thought he was growling at her at first but she realised he was just smiling at her. He was a tough dog he once got out of the yard and got hit by a car but he just got up and just ran straight home but apparently just dropped when he got home. He was fine and was like nothing happened in a weak (this happened on charisma's day as well) Anyway we moved to a new home (this was the 5th house I have lived in) and there was a old folks home at the back of this house and Oliver would always run off there and we later realise it was because the old people where giving him food but I think he was going there to cheer them up he was very likable even people who hate dogs liked him. The only time he did naughty things was to make me laugh any time he was going to do something he would look over to make sure I was watching with a cheeky smile on his face. Unfortunately he did get cancer like it was sed in the video and I even remember the day before the operation he was sat on my bed with me licking my arm as if he was saying it's going to be ok but very fortunately he survived and with flying colours even the vets where amazed with how quickly he recovered and I knew he would be alright when he had eaten a bird whole because of course he did. (Ok this is where things start to get sad so if that sort of thing dose bother you you should stop reading now) But as tough as Oliver was he had to go sometime and I went through the five stages of grief before he even passed away and when I finally accepted it we had a week to say goodbye and I remember when the day came I woke up at 4 in the morning at I just sat with him and he just kept licking me as if he was saying it's going to be ok. He passed away 3/29/2017

    • TWK Aquascaping We got our Goldens from an extremely reputable breeder who did it out of love for the breed, and not for profit. She flat out told us that she makes no profit from breeding due to the expenses of properly caring for the dogs and puppies outweighing what she sells them for. It was clear to us that she truly loves Goldens, and adored every dog she owned. It hurts when people say that all breeders are horrible people. I'll admit, many are. But I've seen firsthand that some of them truley do it out of love and passion.

  • Two of my golden retrievers passed away this year. I had them since 2004 so they lasted for 13 years. They were part of my childhood. I grew up with them, from my early teens to adulthood. They were like my siblings. I could not have replaced them with any dogs in the world. One of them had cataract and got blind eventually. When he died my other one followed. I guessed they couldnt live without each other. Golden retrievers are the best dog for families. They are cuddly, intelligent and loved to play for a long time. I remembered the days when they wake me up in the morning. I still miss them even today. 😭

I am 6 foot 4' and when he stood up he would rest his paws on my shoulders He loved children and was extremely gentle. He lasted almost 10 years before the vet had to put him down. I cried all day long. I still miss him.

  • 3:48-4:10 - It's very true what he says here. Though my golden retriever is not a trained therapy dog (she's just a family dog, lol), she still knows when I am upset and comforts me. I have severe anxiety, and on my worst days, when my golden senses it, she normally comes over to me and helps me cope. If I am crying, she'll lick my face until I start laughing. If I am scared or panicky, she'll snuggle with me until I calm down. Golden retrievers are one of the best dog breeds out there.

My wife will be using a needle to help me with my face to pop a pimple or dislodge a facial hair from my skin; ON the second floor of the house, and my golden will somehow sense the pain. He will run from down stairs up the the second level and literally pry himself between my wife and I. We start laughing and then my wife will try again and he will literally barrier himself between and nudge her hand away from my face.

I have now owned 2 American Goldens and 1 English Cream Golden. They have all had different personalities, but the 1 thing in common is their loyalty and dedication to please their human companions. They go with me everywhere now. Hiking, vacationing, swimming, camping, and i even take them to the office on a regular occasion. I'd give give my life for them like they were my own flesh and blood born child, and i know they would do the same.

  • While installing a bannister in my house, a craftsman mentioned that he had recently been hunting with dogs. When I inquired about what breed, he said that, between his buddy and himself they were with three labs and three goldens. "Did you notice any particular difference in how they behaved?," I asked. "Yes I did," he replied. He said that every hour or so of the hunt the goldens had to come over to the hunters and get reassurance that they were doing okay, after which they were good to go. The labs just enjoyed themselves among themselves. Also, there was a time when his buddy had to scold all the dogs at once. The labs actually became upbeat, "because they knew there would be no other consequences," reported the owner. The goldens, OTOH, were crushed for a time, for having displeased the humans, until later reassurance restored their grooves.

  • I'm an adult on the spectrum and I love Golden Retrievers. I struggle with a lot of things, and even just the presence of a big dog is helpful to me. My last Golden passed away last year. I am struggling, but am looking forward to the next generation my family will get later this year. I grew up on Golden Retrievers and love them. The longest I had a Golden was 14 years, and he was such a good boy. He could've been trained as a therapy dog, he was so calm and intelligent. I know this video is an older one, but I enjoyed watching these dogs and hearing this gent talking about them. Makes me excited for my next Golden, even if it'll be from a more local breeder for us. Goldens do require decent exercise, care and lots of grooming, but it's worth it for a happy, healthy, derptastic friend :)

  • I have a 1 year old, almost 2 year old golden retriever. my parent's got him on christmas and when i first got him i was kinda scared since i never had a puppy before and when i got him i started smiling and i rarely smile. after awhile my first dog that i trained was aggressive, she went threw a bad puppy hood and she was scared of me until i started taking my time, feeding her treats, when she got used to me i started training her to heel and help with some problems that i have. she was an amazing dog until she was put down.. it was hard on me and my golden Kobe helped so much and thats when i started training him service dog work.. so he can help me with my issue's. after 2 month's of training he was amazing, he alerted and listened very well. and sometimes in public. i trained him myself and now he is in a training class at Petco. the trainer's there are helping me with making him a service dog for myself, he has a few more weeks of training then he goes into CGC. and honestly, Kobe is one of the best dogs i have ever raised, he is so smart, gentle, and sweet. I LOVE golden retriever's that i have been doing more research on them. now kobe knows jumping threw hoops, rebound, back up, and much more. i spend alot of time with this dog that he is my best friend, my lifeline. a few months ago my brother wanted a golden.. UNTIL we came home with two.. Leia is almost like an english cream and buddy is like a red golden, he is much darker then kobe. Leia belongs to my dad, and buddy belongs to my brother. and kobe belongs to me. Goldens are the best family dogs i have ever owned and i hope in the future when i have money i will totally get another golden. I just love these dogs! ❤🥰

People always thought he was a red setter, but he came from a breeder and had a documented ancestry. An unusual example of the breed for sure, especially since he lived to 16 (certainly not due to his diet because I was always sharing my food with him lol). Such wonderful dogs, especially with kids. NOTE: I always encourage people to adopt, not shop. We adopted our golden when his previous family could no longer care for him.

  • I've had 2 Golden females, each I got as puppies. They were both just bundles of love, my second one served as a therapy dog at the local hospital for years. I agree the training challenge with Goldens are 1) jumping up on people (because they are so excited to meet everyone), and 2) coming when called (simply because they are focused on something else). As people pleasers, Goldens are quick learners but I've found these 2 issues to require the most patience. Another good point on Goldens is shedding and grooming. Your house, clothes, and car are likely to be covered in golden hair especially if you are not diligent on brushing them out daily. My advice, wear khaki, the hair is not as noticeable. One other thing to mention, Goldens are very people/family/kids focused and I think it somewhat unfair to them if you don't fully accept them as members of your family (i.e. live in your house, play with them, take them places, etc.).

  • There is a Golden for every other dog you see. This says something. I'm not a family dog lover but you can't deny the fact that they are nice dogs. 3 houses further from me there lives a Golden who was an escape/break-in artist. I once came home to 2 bull terriers, a Boerboel and... a Golden retriever. Lol he climbed over a 2 meter fence (6 feet i believe) to say hi to my dogs B-). I got the scare of my life tbh. The fact he pulled this of is bizar and baffles me to this day (really they killed any bird, cat or whatever that entered my garden). He is 14 years old now and comes over once or twice a week, he and my 13 year old bull terrier female became best friends (2 old dogs chillin). Love the dog (Balou), part of the family he will always be...

The heartache and loss are still there but we decided to have another Golden because we love them, we are waiting for the arrival of our baby boy on Sunday. So glad you feeling better now John x Lindsay Jane Cares 10-9-2021

  • After 14 years with my Queso, we got our newest English Cream Golden, Cali. Cali was the best Bad Dog we’ve ever had. Over swimming and cross country skiing. 18 months later and she began limping.....after numerous tests, scans and a surgery, Biopsy came back Bone Cancer, in an 18 month old pup! Dealt with her for about a month before we made the decision to put her down. No way were we going to have her leg and half her pelvis amputated, go through chemo and radiation to get maybe another year or 2 out of a dog who swam and ran daily. We had already made the decision to get another puppy and our life is once again complete wi5 our new English Cream Golden, Harper!

After 20 years of owning Dobermans, I have a beautiful ginger golden retriever, and I agree 100% with everything you say in the video. There's a reason why Labs and golden retrievers are the ultimate family dogs. Compared to Dobermans, it's literally *efortless*...

  • We had our GOLDEN GIRL when she was 3 months old. She passed away at the age of 14-3/4 years old. She had health issues but we managed them very well as Honey was very sensible and instinctively self-protective in her health. She would never try to do something that would cause her pain or injury. She was extremely intelligent with common sense combined. She used to look after me because of my ANXIETY AND PANIC ATTACK SYNDROME, she would sense that an attack was starting and either sit, stand, or lay next to me watching all the time to make sure I was recovering she was an amazing dog. The pain and heartache are still there as we lost her in February this year 2021 but we are having another golden puppy on SUNDAY X We will always miss Honey and never forget her x Lindsay Jane Caress
