Okay thanks I'm officially never going to remove my headliner. You only have to remove 90% of the interior in only ummmmm 16 hours. Great video though keep up the good work!

I just did it. The removal is pretty easy. The reinstall on the other hand will have you cursing out the engineers. Words cant describe how awful the reinstall is, and you better have some quality superglue

Awesome video. You know youre way around an E46! I watched this because I need to replace my cassette for my sunroof and dont feel like paying $2k to get it done at a shop. Could you do a DIY on the sunroof cassette or at least show the mounting bolts, drain tubes, etc?? Youre vids are soo helpful!

Great tutorials! Your videos are very helpful. However I think I would rather have a nice headliner than a functional sun roof. I removed my glass and saw only one side of the track was working which means the spline from the motor (under visor, under headliner) is broken. I will just adjust my sunroof flush, disconnect the motor and forget about using it. All good. Thanks!

My family now has six e46 and a couple of Z3's and I'm a big fan of the product when everything is good and fixed. But there is a day coming when I'm going to expect the manufacturer to get these things Toyota right in the first place. We have also owned eight Camrys, three Celicas, two Corollas, two Highlanders, and one Supra Turbo. Toyota can take a bow now while BMW is allowed to take notes furiously!

My cluster went out a couple of days ago but my headlights are still on in my brake lights are still on when I cut the car on but I can't cut them off and on I was driving and my lights started flickering on my cluster and then it cut out smell like something burnt and then my lights headlights just stayed on my backlight stayed on no indicators are working tell me the problem if you can please thank you great video I have a E46 convertible

+Sylhety No problem, almost every e46 has a saggy headliner by now unless its been reglued to or recovered.

just did this whole process in 45 minutes on my lunch break. i have a coupe so the seatbelt isn’t attached to the seat and instead of the handles in the back it’s the coat hangars. other than that, same process. thanks for the help

What glue or epoxy do you recommend to fix the tabs? They are super brittle. Especially on a Florida, Arizona, Nevada, or SoCal car
Arkansas, Texas, and Oklahoma are also hot and srverely degrade plastic

Success! I did it and even took of the sun roof and put on amd other and man! When i swapped it and close it all "finished" i for got to connect the drain hoses 🤦 i had to re pop it and connect the lucky i just had to drop it to gain access

Just I'm case anybody is short on time and wondering if it's possible, I was able to get the headliner out without creasing it and without removing the seats. I did have to recline them as far back as they could go though. It took a lot of patience to get it out without creasing it
Is it much different for the e46 wagon? I need to access the rear sunroof drainage hoses as I'm getting water leaking under my rear seats.
it is a little different because there are some fasteners near the back of the headliner

You literally just rip it off, put the new one on, glue it and cut it as necessary.

My sunroof is stuck open. I was planning to fix it but after seeing how much I have to remove to acsess it, I think I'll just commit insurance fraud. Thanks for the video 👍👌
There is a video or two out there on how to reprogram it by pushing and holding certain buttons for a certain amount of time. I had a stuck open problem and just kept trying the sequence til it moved. Did it like 3x ,no good,would try another day,no go then finally the brain of the car got unconfused and I did the correct sequence and walaaa. Try again and the best of luck.
How's the threshold have to do w/headliner??????
I thought the same thing until I looked and listen to what he was saying and doing. He removed the bottom pillar thats connected to the threshold because the top pillar fits under the bottom pillar and the snaps are hard to get to if he didn't remove the bottom pillar and only pulled it back a little.
So a saggy headliner is a really tragic event. There's a 50-50 chance of ruining things even more... Probably going to leave mine as is

Jesus Christ what an GD undertaking just to get the headliner removed. So much for BMW quality. If this were a 1980s Oldsmobile I could understand it, but I would expect a lot more from BMWs design team than such a shit design as the interior fabric of this model shows. I just replaced the A pillars in my 330 and now the headliner is drooping. My old Toyota beater has never had such unnecessary issues. Good presentation though.

Its actually easier for the coupe since the front doors are so long.

WARNING: My E46 M3 Had a torx head bolt behind the light. This video does not mention this. It was dark, I didn't see it. It snapped the fucking plastic where the bolt is held. LOOK BEFORE YOU FOLLOW THIS VIDEO.
