Does anyone else viewing this video find it odd for a private citizen to venture a project so grand in a rustic setting? Listening to this guy speak of how many greyhound coaches can be driven into a subterranean garage but have only two small vehicles parked in it; It leaves me to question WTH might be going on at that compound?

I can see why someone might think it a sad situation. He said on one hand the compound gave him so much joy & yet on the other, it was just too big & he didn't have anyone to give it to. Seems to me money maybe can't buy true happiness, but having a lot of money could certainly take the sting out of it.
Or it could be that no one in his family was as successful as him. It takes some serious cash to keep a place like that, taxes and maintenance alone are probably a normal persons yearly salary.

My biggest question is how do you get the cars out should the lift or elevator fail? If that's all you have then that may be an issue. If your land is a decent enough size a drive-in tunnel from surface to ground would be a good backup for that lift.
If there was room for a ramp to the surface that a super car or a bus could get up and down, I would assume there would not be a need for the lift. And quite frankly I imagine a ramp like that to that depth would cost a lot more even if there was sufficient room. Lifts are there for a reason. They’re solving a problem.

Another cost effective and easy to handle with crank is sloped door. Look like a side of a hill made of rock and lift it up or swing, as a conventional door, to sides conspicuously.

I've got a lot of cars too, and I've got a good solution for storing them. Just leave them outside. And no one would want to steal my cars since most of them don't run.

You build all of this and then leave? Some people truly can not be happy or satisfied. That is what makes this sad.The amount of work put in to that elevator alone, for no reason other that the owner wanting it, then you walk away from it? Makes absolutely no sense. No respect for money and no respect for the craftsmanship that went into it. For the craftsmen, it goes deeper than getting paid. They get hooked into the buyers dream, vision, and passion and they put their all into making this happen... All for naught. I can imagine how much shit the contractors went through to get the owners specifics just right for him... Then he sells it.
