This video shows my DIY Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Hard Top removal and storage system. With an few parts from the hardware store, and good cam-buckle straps (link below) you can have it set up fast and be able to remove and reinstall your hard top with ease. PLEASE BE CAREFUL.

I did this today! Was super easy. Only hiccup was knowing that the direction the straps needs to be in order to "brake" when tension was on them.

I would highly recommend NOT pushing up on the glass! If it's hot or cold or has a small nick it could literally explode into a million little tinted shards. I had a rear lift glass shatter trying to "help" the gas struts lift the glass. Just a word of caution

nice video! I was looking at getting a wench to help with my tj top removal. But this idea is much cheaper and simpler!
It’s definitely cheaper and easier! Just make sure it’s all super secure and go slow and easy!

someone might have answered this question already, I've never used these kinds of ratchet straps, does it ratchet down just as smoothly? I don't want to drop my hard top...
Great system. Why do you have a carabiner between the ratchet strap and eyebolt?
I did that to hold the strap straight. After I bolted in the eyes, the straps hung with the cam buckles sideways, so I added the carabiners to point them the right direction.
What is the distance between the front and rear eye bolts on each 2x4. Next, what is the approx width between each 2x4. I could guess or measure but your setup worked so well, I would like to go with your measurements. Thanks.
The 2x4s are 36” apart, and the eye bolts are 60” apart
just thinking for long term storage. Put another strap near the rear passenger window bend (C-pillar) to avoid bowing the top over time.

Any chance you know the exact model/type of straps you used? The only ones I can find in my local hardware stores, the length of strap to the clips are about 12 inches which is way too short so I need to order the right model online.
I don’t know an exact model. I bought them years ago at Harbor Freight. They are cam-buckle straps

They are not ratcheting straps. They are the non-ratchet cam lock straps

This is the same system I’m planning on doing this weekend. Are you able to close the window with the straps through there?
I suppose...once it’s hoisted all the way up. I would have to get on a ladder to reach it at that point, so i just leave it open.

Great video, but has the rubber seal in the back been damaged by the constant pressing on the seal? I was going to do this same thing on my JL but Im worried about damaging the weather seal.
If you’re careful, you can do it without damaging it. Also, the JK seal just presses in so it’s easy to remove if you’re worried. Don’t know about the JL seal though
Sorry if this has already been answered, but can you tell me the dimensions for the eye bolt placement? I'm installing in a carport with cross beams so the left/right is no problem, but I have beams 2 feet apart. Also, were those 20' straps? Thanks for the video.
Yes, they are 20 Foot straps. Center to center (front to rear) is 60 inches

OMG I cringed so hard when you were tensioning the first strap and pushed up on the glass. I can just see that thing shattering!
You gotta be careful, but it works for me. Now that I have a Rhino Rack on it, the top weighs 80lbs more and I don’t do it that way anymore.
Won't that ruin the rear window seal with the strap digging in?
Yes, you need to be careful of the rear seal. Go slow, and give support as needed and the seal will be fine.

They are called Cam Buckle Straps
A couple of 2x4s, two straps, lag bolts to screw the 2x4s into the ceiling studs, and some eye bolts to hang everything from
