The day started out great. We celebrated Bunny's birthday by going to the Mississippi Petrified Forest. YAY HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BUNNY! And then...we ran into some weird luck!

I have seen many comments not just this post but others, regarding cities cracking down on homeless sleeping in a car. Is it better that they sleep on a sidewalk or a park bench or on a heating grate? How about a big cardboard box in a dangerous alley? Wouldn’t it be so much better if they spent their time managing safe parking? Not in before eight, out before seven.
Try to have three options to stay when on the road. If arriving early go grocery shopping, find a laundromat to get caught up or visit/walk the local community park. People at parks usually want to talk & you often get great info. Make an effort to blend in - wear a local t-shirt, baseball cap or leave a local newspaper on your dashboard.

@@RileyDoesLifeIf you feel unsafe pull into the parking lot of a public library, senior center or city hall. All are well lite. Say your looking for WiFi/pulling in to eat. Local cops will likely spot you quick, may chat briefly but won't bother you. This isn't for overnights just to find safe spot for couple of hours.

To be honest, Cracker Barrel doesn't mind overnight parking. It is not meant to be a several night stay. It's taking advantage of their courtesy parking policy to do that.

Locations are a big player for sleeping in your car. Cities and states are cracking down on the homeless to find those living in a car or van to cap spending. Cities and states want you paying rent, utilities working a meaningless job just to get by. If you do rest areas more cops won't mess with you because they want you to pull over and sleep instead of driving through and chancing hurting your self or others. Good luck and safe travels. ✌️♥️🎶💡

The bloopers were my favorite part! 😂🤣😂 I can imagine it’s just 24/7 laugh fest when you two are hanging out together! A friend and I took a road trip together last month in my SUV (we didn’t camp though, we stayed in a hotel and an air b&b with a bunch of other artist friends) and drove from DFW, Texas to Richmond, VA and back again and literally laughed the entire week. So much fun! Glad y’all survived the crazy night in Alabama and got to enjoy some adventures and celebrating Bunny’s birthday. 🥳

Welcome to sweet home Alabama!!!! Just remember down south we're all really friendly. They wave at you in the car. If you need help, somebody will come & ask you if you need help. You can eat some real down home cooking, depends on which way your headed. Across Mobile under the tunnel there are great seafood places. Fairhope is a beautiful little city quite the tourist attraction. You will soon see Alabama's beautiful scenery. Of course there's the world famous bar & grill called the Florabama it has live music most nights. Jimmy Buffet's sister has a bar & grill close by the Florabama & he's in there a lot & sings a little. Alabama has lots to see & do. There is two tunnels you can drive through to get to the other side. The old one is called The Tallulah Bankhead One & I remember going through it as a child when we came from Texas where I was raised to Enterprise Alabama where my grandparents lived. There's nothing to see or do where I live, so just giving a bit of local information about things to see. Be careful & have fun.

Why you would want to arrive anywhere after dark? You don't have time restraints. Wiser and more enjoyable to get in early, then explore the area. Know where there is a well lite spot nearby to grab groceries/meal, walk your dog at a local park, visit the library. Get a feel for the community. Then return to your nite camp spot.

Tow truck drivers frequently use predatory tactics to scoop up cars. Some are extremely nasty people. At least you found somewhere safe to sleep. I’ve never understood why states don’t allow citizens to rest at rest stops. Post a sign of 8 or 10 hours max rest stop. Something 🤷🏼♂️. Just not safe to drive drowsy. Truck stops not allowing any overnight parking is even wilder. I’ll at least go get a cup of coffee In the morning 🤦🏼.

I was wondering what happen to your dog! Where do he go when you are in restaurants and bars?
You can leave a dog in the car if outside temp between 32° - 70° and not in sun. Leave water in a bowl & crack windows. Best to walk the dog before leaving & park vehicle in quiet spot. I make sure fav toy & a treat nearby. My dog settles in quickly. Suppose if your dog a barky type it wouldn't work.

My thought on the subject If purpose of your trip is as a tourist and you SUV camp along the way likely 1-2 nights same spot is all you want to do. If your on the road more than 3 months, take time and stay if a nice spot. Often you are offered a job. Then you can reconsider your situation although I would ask the employer to find you a place to stay. Once offered a job for 90 days. They found me a modest apartment, utilities paid for $400.(I pay from wages) I refused.
@@jreton8971 right, I am amazon flex so I consider the overnight shift but the cold climate is an issue on the off nights...there is no sleep in apartments anyway...
@naturelover1284 Figured numbers previously for persons under 62 years old unless the job offer equals more than $15/hr WITH taxes taken & SS paid it isn't worth it. If nomad is already on SS then $12/hr OK. These camp host positions & work so you can park a RV lot for those under 62 is a big mistake. Under 62 need to be paying into SS to assure they have a decent future.

Also, I don't know anything about the app you used to find that place. I'm an admirer of van life. Is there a way you can use it to remove that recommendation or warn others. Stay Safe
We used iOverlander. I don't know if places can be removed, but people can comment on it with updates like whether a place is no longer safe or availalbe to park overnight.

Welcome! I’m in my Subaru and my friend travels in her Nissan van. We caravan together sometimes and whenever it’s dark outside it’s a little scary to be out there so we just hang out in one of our vehicles. 😆
Travel enough you recognize traveling with another vehicle is unquestionably safer. Lots of good reasons.

I didn't thank you supposed to stay a few days at the Cracker Barrel. I found overnight you will ruin it for everyone else.
It's up the discretion of each individual Cracker Barrel, and you should always talk to management to make sure it's okay to stay overnight. We also make sure to purchase something inside as well. Additionally, we don't stay in the parking lot all day as policy is to arrive later in the evening and then we leave the spot early in the morning.
