What was meant to be an evening of magnet fishing along the bank of my local river, came to an abrupt end after less than 10 minutes. It was a totally bizarre find, and one of the best moments this year.
A small number of viewers have suggested this was set up, or I knew the other magnet was there. This assumption is made because I kept throwing my magnet into the same area of water. This is how it happened. Things tend to get found on either side of a bridge and not underneath. Unfortunately an overhanging tree or bush prevented me from walking further along the riverbank to the left (downstream). So I decided to start underneath the bridge and work upstream - to the right. The plan was to find something -anything- and continually move upstream. After all, I needed some finds to justify the video. I was actually about to move without a find when I found the old magnet. I was also aware of the angle of the area covered by the camera, being on a tripod, so tried to keep the magnet throws within the viewfinder's range. To answer the main question, I did manage to separate the magnets, by whacking the old one with an brick! Not very scientific, but it worked. It moved to the side by an inch, so I kept going until they were separated. Until that happened, my magnet was out of use for around three months, and so it was not something I would voluntarily choose to do. I hope you enjoyed the video.
Rusty Nails interesting video dude greetings from Essex your last video comment where disabled when police where called you found what you didn't know a fuse from ww 2 anti aircraft shell head. 👌🐺💕
Rusty Nails. Strong! Magnet = ? Kg
I was wondering Rusty Nails I was wondering if you still have the magnet and if she has you want to get rid of it or give it to someone because I want a magnet fish and I can't afford a good strong magnet if you can maybe send my way that would just wanted to ask cuz thank you for your response in advance
People are gonna be People lol, great find 👍
Rusty nails try a blunt kitchen knife between magnets and hit knife with a mallet should put blade between em.cool videos greetings from Essex 👌💪🐺🐾😉
Haha! A small tip. Cut the top part off a 2l plastic bottle and slip it down the rope to cover the magnet. That helps stop it getting caught on rocks and tree branches etc.
Kewl idea!
@@321ozzy I am about to start magnet fishing. Thank you for the tip!!
Me too!
You can buy cones for Brute Magnets. They are made to fit the magnet perfectly and are less than $10. Much more durable than a plastic bottle.
Lol I'm in north ga in us. All out streams and rivers are mostly rock lined. Other than around bins. Been thinking of trying out magnet fishing but was afraid of loseing my shit. This is a great idea.
Put one magnet in a vise and pound downward so it slides off. You’ll never be able to separate them pulling apart. Awesome vid.
Now you have one for each hand!! Well done Rusty, a free magnet, and a twin to yours actually. Cheers
I appreciate you posting this. I laughed so hard, tears rolled down my face. You took it in stride and you can carry on. Thank you
Well looks like your truly stuck there, pulling apart won't be easy but good luck with that. Looking forward to your next adventure! ☺
Rusty, this vid made my day! That's exactly how it would happen to me! LMFAO!!!💞
Oh... I think we've all had a laugh with the 'magnet fishing' and you find a magnet !! Who would have thought ?? I heard that about the only way to get them apart is to slide. Hope somehow you get them separated. Good luck, and thanks for taking us with you ! Always so fun to tag along.
One idea: tie your magnet to any strong overhanging bar, such as a railing bar on a low bridge or a pedestrian thoroughfare, and tie the "new" magnet with a four-point rope to a wood pallet. And start piling heavy things like bricks onto the pallet. Pallet should only be a few centemeters off the ground, and the magnets tied immediately above so the freed one does not have far to fall. You may also want to wrap the new magnet in a small towel or wrap with duct tape to protect it as it snaps away from the other magnet. The other technique I have read is to slowly and gently wedge wooden wedges between the magnets until they pry loose. The second technique seems the less public.
haha What a thing to pull out first, and the fact it was exactly the same sized magnet, wow wouldn't wanna even consider the odds of that happening. Nice find, best of luck separating them, don't get your hands in between them. Thanks for sharing. Atb Dave
Some great and hilarious suggestions there, but the simplest method I've found for getting magnets apart is to simply tap a wooden shim/wedge in between the magnets with a mallet and let the wedge do the work for you. That way there is nothing for the magnets to stick to, and no way to hurt yourself or damage your property.
If the hole for the eye is threaded straight through then you could unscrew it and screw a bolt in until it jacks the two magnets apart
Hello from Texas! Just catching up on your videos. You honestly made me smile and laugh for the first time today. 😂 Enjoying your videos and humor. Good luck. I hope you find what gives you great happiness. 🦋
Hilarious! Thank you for the giggle. 😂
brilliant Rusty
That's too funny! I never would've guessed that. Great vid
That was awesome! Wasn't expecting that. As I saw neither were you !
Car and an oak tree pull lol no other way unless you see a man about a jcb lol awesome great find and when you separate you'll have two simples lol great video 👍
Drive aluminum or steel (has to be a sharp taper)wedge between them enough to get a bigger wooden wedge between them.😉
Keep fishing 'til a third magnet pulls them apart? lol, You gave me a good even chuckle that lasted a while, thank you. I agree with putting one in a vice and running a pipe through the eye of the other to torq slide it apart... good luck!
Rusty that is ace! I live in Barrhead so if you ever want a hand to get them separated gimmi a shout. Brilliant video, who would have guessed that you would have found another magnet! Keep up the good work enjoying your videos👍
Hi Rusty, just an idea but you could try working a very thin piece of plastic (take an old milk bottle cut one side into a flat square piece of plastic about 5x5. Take a very thin sharp blade and try working it between the 2 magnets to try and start an opening. If you can open it slightlty start wedging the thing piece of plastic between the two and gradually work them apart. The plastic will block the power and eventually dislodge the 2 magnets..worth a try.
also, get another rope through that "new" magnet ring and tie both behind a tree, get a hunk of wood. from behind the tree start twisting those ropes like a plane propeller and see if you could pull them apart that way. be careful though that might be dangerous if goes wrong.
robert from usa here. I liked your video. dont worry about what ppl think about set up, stranger things have happened, for damn sure. From one older guy to another, have fun and enjoy your hobby.
AWESOME BLOSSOM 🌻 I like Bryan G.'s idea but have one in a vise. I had 2 little magnets stuck. The were almost impossible. I stuck a pocket knife blade between them, then I had one on each side of the knife. Keep trying and let us know if yoy got them apart. Pretty weird bt funny.
simple solution. place one ring on a metal peg, tilt the other with wooden stick as it seperates use a plastic wedge to aid in seperation.
I’m glad you told us what was the river and what was the magnet. I would’ve never figured it out! LOL! 😂🤣😂🤣 It’s funny that you found a magnet! You’ll either have to hit one on the edge of a concrete abutment while holding onto the other, or put one in a large vice, and smack the other one with a sledgehammer. You can’t pull them apart you have to slide them apart.
LOL!! This literally made me laugh out loud! Those magnets I’m sure can’t be very cheap! Great score!! 😂
Handy find, the exact same magnet with the same ring and fitting, i guess you can save that shiny new one.
Brilliant video I've seen many magnet fishing g videos and this is by far the funniest.
Hahahaaaaa ! ...ah thank you so much ..i was having a really crap day and you've really cheered me up 🤗
Hi Nina, I'm glad I cheered you up. Still haven't got those magnets separated yet! :-)
That's even better than going fishing and catching a fishing rod, which happens occasionally and is funny even when it happens. But catching a magnet while magnet fishing......that has to be a first! You fished up a good story to tell from here on out, that's for sure! You need to play the lottery!
Good one Mr. Rusty! You are trays riot!
Thats hilarious! Ck out aqua-chigger as to how to get them apart. Good luck with that. Good seeing you again.
I love watching your videos and " Only You .. Only You .. "Love it haha
It’s greatest strength is pulling straight. Try to slide them apart in opposite directions. Once you get a lip on one side, drive a plastic wedge used for felling trees between them, one after another and continue sliding them sideways.
I am glad you took the time to tell us which was the magnet, and which was the river! Stellar find, now you can take a buddy magnet fishing, assuming you can get them apart!
Hilarious...love the analogy at the end...lmao!
It's a setup he kept throwing in the same area over and over he knew he'd eventually hit it! Tell me your thoughts?
Dustin Wind um
Perhaps try this. . . firmly anchor one magnet to something that will NOT move, turn or twist. put something like a long iron bar through the eye of the other mag and with a buddy twist the mag till like poles are aligned, causing a push off. let me know if it works. . . good luck
If you still haven't got the magnets apart, try holding one in a vise. And using a pipe clamp or something that can put constant pressure and try to slide one across the other slowly. And if possible see if you can find or make a wedge to jam in between the two magnets while forcing them apart. This way if something slips out of control you won't lose your progress. The other idea is to use two cars and tie them one to each car and then, while the cars are pulling, trying to jam a wedge in between them until they part ways.
I believe you, I got my big magnet wedged in a creek and had to leave it tied off to a tree for almost a month before could go back and get it. It was still there and we managed to get it unstuck, we were lucky. It was a Anniversary present. 💖
Glad to know you were able to separate the magnets. It was just a strange coincidence that you got that other magnet, but it was still great!
Well I was not expecting that either, honestly that was fantastic. It is a keeper :-)
Used to have a great game when I was a little kid. Coloured fish with paperclips on their noses. A rod with a magnet on the end of the string. You put the fish into a 'pond' inside a decorative cardboard surround & then dangled in your magnet hoping to catch the biggest fish. I guess what you are doing is the adult version! Thankyou for sharing.
Amazing mate, I thought you might have found an old sign or something....... A magnet of the same size? Fantastic comedy! All the way from back sneddon!!! 😂
Hi Darren... yeah, and I still haven't managed to separate those magnets. :-(
lol Cool. If you haven't already gotten them separated, I suggest securing one in a vice and tapping the other with a rubber or plastic or wooden mallet and seeing if you can get them to slide apart a little bit, or tie them both to something in opposite directions to keep a lot of tension on them and carefully trying to slip something between them to pry them apart. I don't know if either way will work, just a couple of ideas. Just be careful.
amazing you found anything throwing the magnet in the same damn place every time
oh. and thats a crazy once in a lifetime occurrence. catching another magnet is rare, but one exactly the same size is ridiculous.
just a suggestion, using a workbench vise, secure one of the magnets in the vise and push a thin sheet of a non magnetic material between the magnets, then another, and try to use a brass or other non magnetic wedge to create a space between the magnets, until they are able to be separated. this will prevent or reduce damage to the surface of the magnets.
Crazy! Yes! You doubled your magnet strength.....and weight!
LOLZ I always wondered if anyone would ever catch someone else's lost magnet Bravo you caught the twin of the one you had that's great but I wonder how they can ever be separated!
I think if you went out from under the bridge, you may find something. When someone throws something off the bridge it would not end up under the bridge.
put a bit of wood over one of the magnets get somebody to hold the other magnet hit the wood with a mallet till it starts to slide off or a make shift wood splitter works common to find them loads are people are trying it after we found bombs guns and greades
Hahaha, how on earth! Beaten at your own game. Not only you found a magnet, you found exactly the same magnet! I think the separating trick with one or 2 cars works without breaking windows if you attach a safety cord that prevents the magnets from flying more then one meter. Film it! Cheers
Brilliant ,😊
Really cool catch. You might try tying one to a tree, with a VERY strong rope and connect the other to your car. Then pull them apart. Hint: The one you tie to your car should have a very short rope or chain. That way if the rope breaks, it won't have enough length to send the magnets flying back to strike your vehicle.
Great video , had a laugh, don't know if you got them apart , engineers vice and big copper mallet will do the trick , I live quite local to you and if you can't separate them let me know and I will do it for you.😃
great video mate ...Greetings from the metal Detectives of Dorset..just subbed to you ..good luck with your future hunts
that was awesome but kind of a curse try some WD 40 its a spray oil put it around the magnets and see if any seeps in might make them slid a bit all I can say is good luck thanks for all your vids
Hook a chain on each magnet then hook 5o 2 autos pull them apart! Great videos keep up the great work! There is always someone who want to ruin everything!
I couldn't help but laugh. Great video. New subbie.
Great video mate. Gr. Ron
Yes. You need all wood box frame. With slot in bottom for the hopefully exiting magnet. Pushing on top magnet with the 2x4 as a push levor. All had to be non ferris, the other mag falls into wood box away from original one. I saw no magnetic demo how to get the neodynum, magnets apart this way. Same is true of you have heavy flat metal stuck on. Good idea for anyone magnet fishing to rig this box up. Look at a paper cutter. The cut overlaps the edge of the plastic holder, giving the cutting legit a bit to,talk over the edge. Same idea with the 2, 2x4. One overlaps the edge, so u can push 2nd magnet with force down the hole u made in the base wood so when pressure begins the slide it can't return back up and stick to original, again. It also puts 2 inches of wood between the magnets.
i think your going to hit it big, lord knows your paying your dues. (lol)
Its a Very Good video! You did a terrific job filming i did not think it was was staged at all! You scored a duplicate magnet identical to yours!
I hope you make a video of you figuring it out!
you should hook them between two cars and record what happeneds... That would be an awesome video regardless of its outcome.
I've seen a video on KZhead using this technique. When they separated, guess where the magnet attached to one of the cars went - through the rear window!
Don't use cars. If you know a fork truck driver get them to use short ropes, or preferably strong chains and two fork lifts to pull them apart.
BigDaddy's Channel Just what I was thinking.
i comment and look at next comment was this one lol
may work
Too funny, thanks for sharing
Just look up neodymium magnets on KZhead and you will find videos that show you how to make a wooden jig that will slide them apart sideways. It looks like a guillotine or a paper cutter where you push down on a wooden arm to slide them apart. Hopefully you'll get them apart so you can have one for each hand! Cover twice the territory!
There's an attractive irony in that. Have you tried tapping a hardwood or brass wedge in between? I might be tempted to tie one to a gatepost and the other to the car for a good yank. Hydraulic press? When you've separated them, you'll now have a backup, though.
Outstanding find👍🏻 maybe put one eyelet in a vise the try to pry the other one off with a crowbar?
Brian usriflecal30m1garand maybe he found last year's magnet ?
That is fantastic !!
I had trouble with weaker magnets. Try clamping one in a vice bolted solid to a heavy table. Then take a hammer and tap lightly on the side of the magnet that's not clamped down. Hopefully it will move side ways and give you less of a magnetic hold. Then might can get them separated.
haha.. good one. I know I'm late but who would have tot to catch another same size magnet! I look more forward finding a magnet than a gun! good catch bud.
Woo hoo amazing find!!
you will have to slide them apart. perhaps some penetrating oil will help; brake fluid is just as good but it stains red. must keep the magnet face slick or covered with some thin Teflon glued on to help in the future. if you have a 350-pound magnet and the other is also 350 lb, maybe a 1/2 ton hydraulic jack will pull them straight apart. but sliding should require less than 70 pounds, just make sure they are both secured, and the ropes drawn tight all the time and tied off to prevent injury from slamming back together. goodluck,
You are great...!!!
Ha ha ha ha ha... Nice tear in the specs time continueum lol You stole your reflections magnet. You need to tie your rope end to something, then use a wallpaper scraper to get in-between the two magnets and try and force a bit of plastic from a cut open bottle or something in-between. Then try and twist slide one magnet to the side. Hope you can fix it but be very careful these things are dangerous lol Very good find though, now your good magnet can be your back up magnet. ATB Darren
That was fun. I felt like I was there. I want a big magnets too. If the magnet has 100 pound pull does that mean anything stuck on it I have to pry that much weight from it?
so what size magnet eould would I need to try this?
That was great. Now, tie one to the bumper of your auto, and the other to a light pole.. And drive a way... Lol... How much do those magnets cost? Well, I guess I could "google" it... Thanks again, I really enjoy your videos...
Can you put one in a vise up to the edge and hit it with a rubber hammer? What mean is, put one horizontally up to where the two magnets are sticking to one another and use a rubber hammer to gently push them apart perhaps with a block of wood?
Haha; brilliant!
I've found a, much smaller, magnet while I have been 'fishing'. BTW might be an idea to tie the end of your rope in to your trouser belt loop. One you don't lose your rope, and two if something does happen it's easy enough to put it free.
What size magnet is best for this ?
I like it when you find a magnet of the same size and brand as the one you happen to be using, lol. I bet that never happen in real life !
Very nice Rusty. You obviously had the right bait on for fishing that day :-)
Use an hydraulic wood splitter, position the center of the joined magnets against the splitting wedge post and use the ram to push the splitting wedge post between the two magnets. Split the magnets instead of wood!
Hi we’re did ya get your magnet from thanks
What a revolting development! Maybe ckamo the one without the rope into a vise then try to slide them apart using a jack to gradually increase the sideways pull on the things? Please video your efforts and share! GL & HH!
I would do a some research about the best spot to fish. Maybe go to a small town creek / river or go where the flood used to be hit the area
Try twisting . Rubber mallet. Or try tie one end to something and pull and twist the other side .
A bumper jack or tractor jack will pull them right apart. Hook one to the base or foot of the jack and the other to the peg using chain or heavy rope. Then just work the jack. They'll pop right loose.
Great catch there. Hope you were able to separate them eventually and in good time.
You will have to slide them apart, secure one in a wooden frame after removing the eye bolt and using it or a longer bolt to secure it down to the frame and slide the other off. Mind your fingers though, if they are caught between them they may get crushed.
The magnets have been separated (at last) and I use it again in the next video.... Scott
Hillarious! My luck. Great video
Hi Mate, you need to put one in a large vise and use a pry bar that will fit in the eye of the other and pry down and they should pop apart, might take a Mates weight too though, lol.
Certainly lives up to Magnet fishing. The thing I am wondering is what was the magnet you acquired stuck to, that caused the magnet owner to lose his or her magnet.
Crikey I was just creased up laughing. Of all the things that you could have found!
That is crazy. What luck, now if you lose one you will have another. Once you get them apart that is. And I'm sure you will. I was expecting a motorbike or something like that.
