Bending and pressing copper pipe for shower valve!

2024 ж. 7 Сәу.
21 520 570 Рет қаралды

First fixing a shower valve, pipes bend into position while still being in place using the monument pipe bender!
Using press on this shower to reduce blocking the internals of the valve with flux and solder.
Asmr plumbing sounds fitting and plumbing up a shower using a novo press gun

  • For those wondering what the collar gizmo he puts on the pipe, that's a pipe cutter. Essentially, there's a screw adjustment that he'll turn to tighten that around the pipe as it rotates, meanwhile, that constant pressure is driving a tiny disc of probably a super-hard metal called tungsten-carbide into the copper, cutting it like a pizza wheel at Domino's. The cup that follows is a deburring tool, as freshly cut metal of all kinds has something called burs where the cut happened, kind of like the little strips of paper if it's been cut by scissors held by shaky hands, and those can mess with the seals in this plumbing work. So, deburring tools are used to remove them. As for why he doesn't use his bare hands to bend the pipe, that's because doing so would cause kinks, kind of like if you were to fold a running hose in your yard or garden over onto itself. The difference is that metal pipes can't undo that fold. Finally, the red electric tool is a kind of crimper. These effectively use mechanical pressure to force certain materials to join together. In this case, a watertight bond between the pipe and the fittings being used to connect the pipe to the other parts.

You might find a barn kept classic car that hasn't been started in 40 years. Replace the oil, the fluids, and all the rubber parts and it will likely be as good as the day it was parked. Ever seen the old Barbies and other plastic toys still sealed in the box, but molten to a sticky goo by the plastic degrading? My point is this, a soldered joint will last until the pipes themselves fail, the pro-press junk is rated for 50 years. And that's if a good company is making the proper o-rings, and not some cheap knock-off. My opinion is, 30 years from now there will be a class action lawsuit against the pro-press system.

    • I’ve never used a pro press because I’m old. Are the fittings prone to leakage? I’m inclined to agree with you as pro press; if I’m not mistaken, relies on an o- ring for its seal. That and shark bites I’m guessing will have huge ramifications per leakage. Guys bury these all the time. I’m retired, so whatever. 🤣

    • @@johnbagewll2321The elastomer seals never last as long as the manufacturers claim. This is the same reason why many industries will prefer Greyloc couplings over Victaulic-style ones. Metal-to-metal is the ultimate seal.

    • This. Pro press should only be used in accessible locations. It may be 15-20 years from now but those rubber seals will leak. When one leaks the others aren't far off. Will be stressful for the homeowner

The wrench is just too likely to loosen up on its own. I noticed you switched to a regular wrench on the second pipe, and I'm assuming that's bc your crescent wrench adjusted itself on you lol

I wanna start using those compressed fittings because they make everything so much easier during installation but for what I understand sweated copper can last forever under normal circumstances but compressed fitting can only last about 20 years due to the rubber getting destroyed on its own with time.
