Album: Singing the Blues, freddycolemusic.com/ Lyrics: I should've stayed gone When I left before
Cause you do me wrong
When we're together
But I keep coming back
Oh, Lord, for more
When I leave this time
Whoa, Lord, make sure
It's understand that
This time, I'm gone for good
Many times I've left you
But I couldn't stay away too long
Thank God for the strength
That he gave to me to leave home
And still be strong
It's been warm outside
But for me, but for me
There's been no sunshine
So hard for me to leave
But I finally made up my mind
This time, baby, Lord
I'm not gonna let you
Worry me no more
And this time, baby
Don't even say nothing to me
Oh, Lord, bye, bye, baby
“I started playing piano at five or six,” Freddy recalls. “Music was all around me.” In the Chicago home of his youth, visitors included Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and Lionel Hampton. He also credits Billy Eckstine as a major influence. “He was a fantastic entertainer,” Freddy recalls. “I learned so much from just watching and being around him.” After a possible career with the NFL was shelved due to a severe football related hand injury, he began playing and singing in Chicago clubs as a teenager. Although he was ready to hit the road at 18, his mother intervened and he continued his musical education at the Roosevelt Institute in Chicago.

    • Don, I agree with your comments, but you that is how KZhead works, right? Like Facebook and other social media outlets, they present a facade of being a free service but they make lots of money via commercials. As an uploader yourself with many subscribers, won't some of that money go to you? I don't think you'll get many people who will be willing to send you money mate.

  • "Freddy" Cole (born October 15, 1931) is an American jazz singer and pianist whose recording career has spanned over sixty years. He is the brother of musicians Nat King Cole and Ike Cole, father of Lionel Cole, and uncle of Natalie Cole, Timolin Cole, and Casey Cole. Cole was born to Edward and Paulina Cole, and grew up in Chicago with siblings Eddie, Ike and Nat King Cole. He began playing piano at the age of six, and continued his musical education at the Roosevelt Institute in Chicago. He moved to New York in 1951, where he studied at the Juilliard School of Music, before completing a master's degree at the New England Conservatory of Music. Better then "Nat"..... Enjoy. Yes.. he is still alive. I did a show with him a few months ago in Las Vegas... to a standing ovation..!!

    • Thats true brother. I understood you, unlike these other folks. This kind of music is forgotten, people don't really listen to blues or jazz anynore, mostly because today all they care about is money and how far their shitty music is going to reach. Nowadays music is meant to be disposable and superficial. We have a couple os exceptions of course, but back then it was all about pouring your emotions on the lyrics and in the melody itself. These types of music are really strong, you either love em or hate em.

    • Freddy Cole is 87 now, He was shown occasionally with a cigarette in his hand but he must have learned when his famous brother died of lung cancer at age 47. Fred has already lived 40 years longer so I wonder. Cigarettes DO cause lung cancer and people are far less apt to smoke today because they know that! (Today, they're "vaping" because they think it looks 'cool' and they are dying right and left YOUNG, from bad lung complications.)

  • An absolute classic which will (and has) stood the test of time. Some might not be aware but his brother was Nat King Cole, what a contrast in styles. Now how the hell can 1.5k people dislike this?

      @klistiranikrupije1724@klistiranikrupije17247 жыл бұрын
    • Klistirani Krupije I'd say a blues song with a slight jazz vibe. The tune comes from a definite Blues and R&B background. The original creators of the tune were pioneer blues and R&B musicians/producer Oscar Perry and Deadric Malone (I believe). Bobby "Blue" Bland is defiantly a Blues/R&B artist covering a great Blues/R&B tune (IMHO). Like all musicians of that era they would have probably been heavily influenced by the Jazz scene and I'm sure the bleed through of Jazz into Blues (and vice versa) was a natural progression (as with all musical 'genres'). That said this song would work beautifully with a full on Jazz treatment (and probably has). Testament to such a great classic I'd say.
