At last week’s training class, Beau and I had the opportunity to rotate through lots of different exercises in close proximity to our fellow classmates. By working two dogs in the ring at a time, we can really ensure that the dogs don’t lose focus. Training around distractions is key because in a show environment, the dog is in a completely new place, with new smells and surrounded by untold number of dogs. There is a lot that can compete with their attention so it’s important to train with distractions. While we waited for our second turn in the ring, we did some exercises with dogs in the front of us dogs behind us and dogs to the side of us. I was really happy to see Beau keep his attention on me for most of the time, especially with the two pretty female Dobermans in the kennels behind us! Hopefully, we can keep this up as we get close to showing in the summer.
As always, thanks for watching!
Lovely 😍
