Because his tattoos are done with black ink it absorbs light more, which will make his arms look smaller than when the light is reflecting off a paler or brighter surface. Also because your eyes get drawn to outlines-with the tattoos your eyes get drawn inside the arms outline to the tattoos, but without you see the arms outline more, meaning you see the big picture-if that makes sense.

@@sarah1490 yes, it’s also why pin-stripes were used for slimming clothes, because your eyes go for the stripes instead of your outline. Dots on the otherhand simply emphasised the body’s curves because they don’t appear as circles when they go around our curves, they become stretched, again drawing the eye to our outlines.

Not that there’s anything wrong with dots, I love them, but when they’re designed I’m fairly sure they’re put in certain places on the models, meaning they emphasise specific curves & draw your eye to specific places, so when they go on different curves (because everyone’s curves in different places) it can look weird, & make people feel bad about themselves due to fashion being dumb & designing for a set body type.
