  • I have a 2019 1.8T of this car and it’s amazing. Lots of subtle OEM mods that I’ve done to make it better than factory. Also lowered on some HR springs so it’s ride is much smoother and better looking

  • How is the reliability? As someone who likes to drive a car manual transmission my options are limited, also I like the cargo capacity of it being a wagon so again my options are limited. On paper this car seems pretty sweet, but I heard vw is not very reliable and parts are expensive.

    • Trades46 why? like seriously, why? what's the benefit of that, other than slightly worse fuel economy? yes, a little bit more performance, but in a car like this, you absolutely don't need that… going from a 1.8 to 2.0, naaaahhhh, that's so not worth it? in the regular golf, we have a 1.0T 3cyl or the 1.5T 4cyl now, those actually make a difference, and for most people I'd recommend the 3cyl, with it's 40 US mpg (combined). If you do a lot of highway driving, I'd recommend the 4cyl, or maybe even the 1.6T diesel, but then again, if you're really gonna spend a lot of time on the highway, another car with a more comfortable suspension might be the better option.

    • Volkswagen's reliability has only been getting better for the past few years. Just take care of the turbo engine (gently drive it until its warmed up, let it run 30-60 seconds before starting off/shutting down) and you should be fine.

    • I would avoid until VW sorts their stupid carbon buildup problems. Some manufacturers put a second set of port injectors so the intake valves get sprayed with fuel therefore cleaning them but VW is yet to do so. Audi (I know part of VAG) does that in their newest motors and so does Lexus with their 3.5 motor.

    • They definitely do differ from European models. We got a lot more petrol and Diesel engine options here, various colors and more trims. But they’re also more expensive here and you kinda get more car for your money in America. That’s why I imported a Jetta Wagon to Germany

  • Problem w/this car is I want SE options and a manual, but only the S (this car) has the 3rd pedal option and its just a 5spd...ill need the 4motion to get the 6spd.. I prefer the darker "night blue" vs this cars "silk blue"

    • Yeah the 4motion is only available int he S trim, unless you get an Alltrack, but the FWD versions are a 5 Speed automatic / manual and the 4motion version is a 6 Speed DSG / Manual in the US.

    • Don't be sad - 1.8 TFSI is highly unreliable (at least here in Europe). However 1.8 20V Turbo was a good engine. :-)

    • The knob has the benefit of having infinite adjustment within the range instead of being "stepped" like the recline handle used in American and Japanese cars with manual controls. While most of us likely can find a decent enough position with the stepped recline, there's probably a number of people who's ideal position is "between" one of the available positions. By going to power adjustment, it's a win win - easier/more ergonomic to operate/understand while retaining infinite adjustment.

    • My 04gti has the knob and it's fine...in fact, I rarely touch it once it's adjusted... I'll take finite 1* adjustments over fixed 5* ones w/the lever...practicality losing to peer pressure and lazy people
