Last weekend I was invited to come and visit Norrhälsinge Blacksmith's guild. It was a blast spending time with the talented blacksmiths over there. The day after I got a pirvate tour of Gränsfors Bruk and I also took the axe making class.
Loads of fun!

  • As an old man who has done this work my whole life I really appreciate these young folks applying the trade!Am quite surprised by the mechanical hammers as they are very expensive,especially for the young people.I do want the film maker to know that his effort has impressed me very much!!!

    • Godbless you sir for helping to pave the road of smithing for us younger generation or atleast the one's not allergic to real work.

  • Great video, what a fun. experience! I have 3 Gransfors axes and have just ordered another. They've never let me down, always a joy to use. I also gave one, a Small Forest Axe, to my uncle about 6 yrs ago and he's used it almost every day since. It looks 50 years old with all the wear and tear on it, and he raves about how much he enjoys it every time I see him.

  • Love the recipe thanks for sharing! I only had a lime in the fridge so I used that, careful cutting into the lime after it comes off the grill, the blast of steaming hot lime juice to the face was a bit of a shocker, glad I had glasses on! It actually scalded my forehead.

  • Have I understood it correctly if the goat in steel (At 1:15 in the video) is their own interpretation of the Gävle goat? For those of you who have no idea about the Gävle goat, take a look at the link. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%A4vle_goat

  • The way they test the hardness of the axe says that they're well made axes

    @Elfrendar@Elfrendar2 жыл бұрын
    • I was thinking that's the worst possible thing to do to the axe head after it's already been hardened and heat treated, slamming a big steel hammer on the head. I'm not the expert but I know a little metallurgy. You'd think it wouldn't help the head and would do more harm than good. That's one step of the manufacturing process that should be done away with.

      @Mcdoogle221@Mcdoogle2212 жыл бұрын
    • @@Mcdoogle221 or maybe it is a matter of threshold; A local smith used to demonstrate/ proof his axes to his customers by cutting carpenters nails with the axe in front of them. If it left a mark- he would refuse to sell the axe.

      @alfiversen7023@alfiversen70232 жыл бұрын
    • @@alfiversen7023 They've been manufacturing axes for hundreds of years. Pretty sure they got it perfected, no need to hit the hardened head with a steel hammer, also pretty sure that it puts stress in the steel and makes it more prone to break in the future. In my opinion it's just unnecessary to do that to the head.

  • This was a clean example of the small forest axe! Of the thousands I have seen in the shop and in every shipment, most of them are crooked have horrible forging! With deep depressions around the cheeks! LP and MB(the axe smith of the axe in this video) are the only two smiths in GB who don’t ruin the axe cheeks by deep depressions! LP unfortunately retired a few years back! Thanks for the video
