This is a special flight without passengers. After Chinese first Boeing 747-8 aircraft was delivered to Air China, 6 captains took the 747-8 airplane back to China, took off from Seattle Everett, and flew straight to Beijing.
Each Captain to their counterparts during the introductions; "Captain, Captain, Captain, Captain, Captain...Cap...Oh, that's me."
Just like Spies Like Us movie “Doctor” scene 😂
Roger. Huh? Roger. Huh? We have clearance Clarence. Roger, Roger. What's our vector Victor? Over, Over. Roger. Huh?

How many captains do you want in the cockpit Air China: Yes
HAHAHAA Yes please.

Wonderful
Lol
That’s a robot (doge)
hahaha
Waking speed 20kts 😮😮😮😯😦
Its always exciting getting a new work vehicle. I know when I get new trucks at work its a great feeling, im sure thats what it feels like for these pilots. All the new features and everythings spotless. I bet the 747-8 is a hoot to fly, it certainly looks fantastic.
I would really feel VERY SAFE to know that flight is being handle by these 6 gentlemen. Even if one is having headache, that plane will not crash
Next thing you know, the 6 captains have a power dispute. Now the plane is falling, and no one is pulling the yoke the right way.
Nah.... I m sure these 6 gentlemen are professional enough. They are gentlemen, they are supposed to be strong and firm, am I right???
@@alaqmargandhi1165 that only happens if its 6 indian captains
@@alaqmargandhi1165 I doubt so...China people are very United irregardless of race. I am not sure of 6 Indian pilots though..
It’s a delivery flight there were no passengers
Just to clarify that we have totally different way of communication in China (like aviation English versus aviation Chinese) so that captain in the middle is translating ATC commands for other captains so that they can focus on flying. Not that they can’t understand or read English or anything, cause all the checklists and manuals are probably written in English.
I met a chinese captain at amsterdam airport, he could NOT speak english, is this common?
Are all ATC in English?
@@NADworker This is common, coz almost all commercial pilots in China are retired fighter pilots from the PLA, and they don't need to learn English.
@@thepursefreak78 yes ..since ICAO has made it compulsory for all countries to communicate with airliners and transport aircrafts ...
Pilot Must Be Has English Qualifications
WOW! How exciting for the Captains. They look so proud with their new toy!
Um, the cockpit displays and design don't look too inspiring
@@aaabbb-py5xd that thing designed in 1970, what do you think
I know that you are say NEW toy, but if you dont mind me asking, even though they say that they are as of this year, they are ending the production of the 747, becasue of dwindling customer Demands, and low sales, for its latest varient, became the finial nail in the coffin for the aging plane line, is this a NEW version of the 747 that for some reason, they decided to start building and put into production?
@@pizzasubs "New",The stretched 747 Advanced was launched as the 747-8 on November 14, 2005, for a market forecast of 300 aircraft. The first 747-8F Freighter performed its maiden flight on February 8, 2010, and the passenger 747-8I Intercontinental followed suit on March 20, 2011. The cargo version was first delivered in October 2011 and the airliner began commercial service in June 2012., so this is new compared to the first 747s but as you said low sale and demand they are stopping production of the entire 747 line
@@aaabbb-py5xd Yup but the new wings and new engines give a smoother ride and better fuel consumption. Lufthansa Air and China Airlines bought a GEM! Unlike A380 that is slowly bring scrapped. The 747-8i will still fly. I am eager to fly this GEM!
the other captains silently judging each other’s flying
I can fell these pilots excitement. Awesome job Air China.
This has to have been so exciting for these pilots.
Now,I want say the same words to yours.

Interesting seeing 6 pilots in a 747 Superb!!!
Haha. Awesome
This is awesome! Flying this as the 6 captains is one of most crucial responsible matter.
It was the first time flight since AirChina bought this aircraft. So I think they were evaluating this aircraft in every detail.
In the world of twin jets this is a rare treat. Thanks for upload
That's probably the safest flight they'll ever be in... 6 Captains. Pretty impressive.
Quite the opposite honestly. 3 pilots is the ideal amount for safety. 6 is just crazy and will cause too much disagreement and commotion
What a group of sympathetic captains here. Cool video, thanks alot.
Nice video. I was wondering why there were 6 guys but now realize that because it's about a 12 hour flight to Beijing, the other 3 will relieve the first 3 at some point.
No, it was delivery flight, the others are evaluating the aircraft as this is new to their fleet, also 12+ hour flight only require 3 pilots and never had more pilot than that
But this will bump up their flight hours on-type faster? Air China flies a mixed Airbus/Boeing but with far more Airbus. The Boeings they do have, are mostly 737s. They have only a handful of 747s.
You are absolutely wrong. There are 6 pilots because this is the first ever flight flown by air China on the 748, and they most likely wanted the most amount of eyes to watch for anything that goes wrong(though I highly disagree with this philosophy). Also, 3 pilots aren’t needed at a time for a flight, only 2. Not to mention in a 12 hour flight, 3 pilots are usually enough. For flights that are say 16 hours, 4 pilots are needed. Never does a flight need more than 4.
great film, great crew amazing movie congrats from Brasil.
Exactly like the first time I got new car, try to figure it out from console button to acceleration pedal haha. Great job captains!
Thank you for sharing..I enjoyed it.👍🏾❤️👏🏽
They're so confident about this great American craftmanship of an aircraft they know that the flight is going to be smooth as silk
Joseph Rondon 737max ?
I think so. The Chinese in fact believes in america, so does the chinese government, who, however, do not say it out.

The younger captain seems to be trained in the States. The two seniors can’t speak English. This flight is a great opportunity for these seniors to shop in the States. Better to retire them early.
The two Chinese pilots in control don't seem to understand or communicate in English well with the air traffic control, so they use another pilot for radio communication.
You can see how much they love flying !!

🇻🇳hello 🖐china 🇨🇳
hello
I saw 2 Air China 748's cross over my area at the same time recently, wonder if this was one of them. I checked flight radar24 to see what planes they were, too high to actually see the livery...
Love it
My first and only experience on a B747 was on an Air China from Singapore to Beijing in 2011
Mine was on Eva air from Hangzhou to Taipei (Taoyuan) in 2010.
It is very rare to travel, whatever the purpose is, 6 experienced senior pilots on an aircraft such a long distance. Took the risk.
How many captains does it take to ferry a 74?
What was the master caution during the takeoff roll?

B-2485 delivery ferryflight SEP30-OCT1, 2014 from Paine field (PAE) to Beijing (PEK) - not from Seattle. Thanks for interesting video!
Paine Field Passenger Terminal is 20 miles north of downtown Seattle, so I believe they called it Seattle, but nice catch!
He appears to be hand flying well after departure. Nice.
how many captains does it take to change a lightbulb ?
Aircrafts are the only machines left that Chinese are still dependent on the outside world. They have to go all the way to US to do their shopping. Shows the complexity of making one . Airbus and Boeing 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
IF you dont mind me asking, as per the description of the video, this was filmed 2 years ago and it says that this 747 was if correct JUST delivered to Air China but just read that pretty much ALL 747's as of this year (2022) are now all slowly starting to be retired, if not retired, they are as of this year, Discontinuing production of the 747......
Some where else in this thread, some said this clip was in 2014 actually. The 747-8 version is the last one to be produced so I guess they will be the last to be retired... Some 747s are retired early because 4 engines burn gas like crazy. The trend now is 2 engines planes. the Airbus 380 and the Airbus 340 are no longer made and will be retired soon..
This dash-8 that they're taking delivery of will be in service for many decades to come, sadly they all do retire but on average they're in service for 30yrs! I did shed some tears watching the special on the last delivery of the 747. I consider myself very blessed to have flown on one '"200 series"when i was child at 10yrs old!! Long live the Queen!
The thumbnail tho got me !!
WONDERFUL AIRCRAFT!!
More airlines should buy 747-8I, it’s the most beautiful aeroplane ever built. 这些都是国航的王牌飞行员。
Best airplane on earth, the 747-8. Great choice of plane by Air China.

I'm guessing they took delivery out of Paine Field in Everett. I might have seen this flight go overhead!

First officer rocking out with the shades 😎 proper!!
Or should it be, first captain ? 😂
There's a powercut in a hospital during open heart surgery - in the darkness a Chinese man enters and loudly commands "evwybody puut yer 'hands up!" - suddenly the lights come back on and the man exclaims "See?! many hands make light work"
Standing in the cockpit during takeoff
you can see how stable the wheel, few move can do the landing.you do not need to move the wheel all the time, most time is not necessary. We (pilot)all know this, but hard to do it. Apparently these guys is top pilots.
Super cute pilots! Their are chatting just like the time I pick up my new car from 4S shop with my girlfriend!🤣
Interesting
Six captains. How do they determine who is in charge?
You have to put on the auto-generated subtitles...it's hilarious in how it interprets the Mandarin 🤣
I will do it later, thank you

I wonder what the Master Caution was, that they got on the take-off roll?
This was hard to watch on so many levels
Why?

Uhhhhh.... why?
WOW! How exciting for the Captains. They look so proud with their new toy!
Is this one of the last 747 off the assembly line?
Are there seats for the two standing pilots?
No. 4 seats, left and right pilot seats and two jump seats.
Little Queen I was wondering that myself 😂😂
Yes.
If they fly international routes it's unlikely any of these captains don't know any aviation english.. but may not be fluent or comfortable in responding to ATC very easily, so it's still better to have someone who is comfortable and fluent to handle the actual communication. The pilots flying probably have caught most of the instructions and the translating pilot is then confirming what they thought they heard, but with him there they are much more sure of the communication. If the flying pilots knew no english whatsoever they wouldn't even know which buttons to select on the flight computers
Why the constant little tweaking of controls n switches all the time.
thats how you fly a big plane like that
Hm you realize this is their first 748?
This was Air China's first 747-8. The captain kept control for a while after take off to get a real feeling.
This is not a car where you just switch everything to automatic.
Auto pilot heading change, speed change, navigation pages are flicked through via switches. So although it may look like a lot, most of it is just general admin along with keeping the plane on track :)
The crew is handling the 747 like it is an antonov
The 225 🤣🤣🤣
@@tradyboy6289 yep,-including no callouts from either pilots, and rear seat captain /communicator is monitoring the older pilots as a safety backup.

How many captain there
This is a unique video, having a dedicated comms pilot frees up the 2 pilots in the front seats. The pilot in the left seat is hand flying the plane above the clouds which I've never seen on any other airline delivery flight. Sure it wastes more fuel and I don't know if western airlines do this on their first new aircraft type delivery flight. But I certainly think it should be done.
It doesn't waste more fuel to handfly if you follow the path that you ve assigned to the autopilot.
Since when does hand flying vs using an autopilot use more fuel during climb out?
They all take turn to fly the plane during this flight?
Perhaps one of the last new passenger 747?... Read somewhere that the last yerad of production is freight-747s.

What is the tail number? And if it's an old video or Air China actually took delivery recently?

Apparently they do understand English. The pilot in the right seat react to ATC commands every time before the radio pilot say anything. The pilots flying are the chief pilots of Air China 747 division. They were ex-air force pilots and their spoken English is not too good. Hence there's someone younger there. Plus, they are the boss and they can ask any pilot to be their radio operator if they don't want to speak. There's a hater in the comment posting multiple times saying it's scary. What a racist.
Exactly man I see the FO inputting the heading well before the middle guy says anything. Also, the left seat Captain confirms in Chinese so he clearly understood too lol!
Yes I agree. If they are experienced in flying international routes it's unlikely the flying pilots don't know any English.. but they may not be very fluent or comfortable in responding, and may worry they misunderstand or don't hear something correctly, so the translating pilot who is obviously fluent and comfortable in english is there to to handle the communication and he confirms what the flying pilots thought they heard ATC say.

Actually, Air China is not China airlines, China airlines is in Taiwan, China.
