Dramatic docking of €23,000,000 superyacht in Saint Tropez. Sqeezing in to very tight dock. Watch to the end!!!
Yacht docking technique demonstrated by Super Yacht Captain Ian Jinks, and the crew of Calypso 1.
Not a boat fail, but had to squeeze the yacht into the space in Saint Tropez,
00:00 Entering Saint Tropez
03:34 Preparing to reverse yacht into berth
09:42 Squeezing into the berth and securing.
Still waiting for the drama 😅 This has been one of the best docking maneuvers here on KZhead. Professional captain and crew. All done right. Very calm and straight forward. Perfect 👌
Amazing comments thank you. Would be great for you to share.
@@SuperyachtVideo You're welcome
Why always expecting dramas?
@@tasmangirl Why click baiting with a dramatic headline and not delivering anything?
they say in the title@@tasmangirl
That is undoubtedly the best video I've watched yet of a Superyacht docking. So many videos out there showing the yacht, the scenery (all with loud music) but this is the first I've seen showing the Captain actually operating the controls. This video also illustrates quite nicely the 25M limit for non-licenced Captains; I'd have been quite happy performing that in a 25M vessel- and have done several times- but at 36M you cross the line from boat into a small ship and it's a very different scenario. Compliments to Captain and crew.
Thank you for that , yes there is a difference, and glad you appreciated the video of the controls
And where is a drama? The speed in the port above the limit? More than 10 knots! Easy handling boat! Captain has full view astern from the mooring station. Enough space between the boats.Daytime.Good weather!
Let's see you do it then. The deal is that you pay for all necessary repairs.
You have the all the confidence of someone with no responsibility my friend.
Clickbate! But nicely done captain! Did I hear some dutch from the crew at the end??😂
Drama is the girls on the boat picking fenders up, not doing anything with them , running around stressed while it's not about them, not knowing how to throw a heaving line, guy running up and down the passerelle, also no reason for that...and yes I worked on yacht for over 10 years, docked 45 m motorjacht and 28 m sailing yachts multiple years...no bow thruster no stern thruster, never shouting, ...but, other than that, nice docking tho..have seen worse..
The girls did a perfect job, no stress from them, and they had to lift the fenders out because they couldn’t pass the other yacht fenders, and then the gap was too tight, hardly a case of not knowing what to do. The heaving lines were thrown perfectly first time. Mate was doing as instructed to get the passerelle over the dock. It doesn’t get much better than that.
So you pay 23 million to live in a semi-detached house with neighbors 10 ft away from you and in public view of curious ryan air tourists. Hell of an experience 😮😅
Good sailor ,Dutch.😂😊kwam dit filmpje nog eens tegen, blijf bij mijn mening. Goede vaardigheden, geen enkele onzekerheid weet wat gebeuren moet.😊
Nice to hear Dutch......must be a fantastic crew . Goed gedaan meiden en mannen. We blijven toch nog altijd een beetje zeerovers 😅
Dat lijkt me niet iets om trots op te zijn.
Ik had meer het Idee dat het de gasten waren die Nederlands spraken. Niet de bemanning.
Great communication between the crew well done.
Thank you. Job well done by the team makes the job easier
I have a 12M Cat ..1992.My first boat..I learned from this Skipper.Hi from Malacca straight.Thanks.
Such a great perspective from the video. Job well done by the Captain and crew !
Thank you so much. Team did great onboard, as always.
I have to respect for captain.
That’s how you handle a Superyacht like a boss 😉👏🏽
Respect for the master and crew. I like specialy chiefmate role - he never touch a rope nor fender but was always an eyes for Master
Great teamwork ...very much in control and calm. Great video.
Thank you for your comments
good job Capitan and crew i wish to have these two stern ladies in my crew ❤
i love St. Tropez! and the position right at the Senequier is my favorite place anyways! Good Job Ian!
Thank you so much for the comments. Yes it’s the prime place on that quay for sure.
❤ thank you very much. As a sailor it's very interesting to follow this. As a captain I'll say no, not big enough on the sides..50 cm both sides isn't sure enough..well??? dramatic???😮 well made, good job! 👋😀⛵️🇨🇭
That was owe some to watch. 💕✌️
thank you
Good job, crew!!
Great skills by you Ian and your crew, very proud, well done xx
Thank you so much, a big team effort
I don't know much about boats but thats got to be clinic in how to park one!!

Olá Ian esse seu trabalho é muito bonito 👍🤩
Top notch crew…flawless teamwork.
Great comment thank you
excellent docking, the mooring was really tight. the commander knows his stuff
Thank you for your comments
high professional team, despite the slot wasn't appropriate... great capitan skills
great comments thanks
Excellent teamwork! Lift my hat!
Bravo 👏🏻 capitán 🧑✈️!!!! 👏🏻👍🏻
thank you
Nice to have no wind, not sure I would even try if there was! Regardless, nice job, just wondering when this will be all automatic, the technology certainly is there so.
Hi 👋, The last time I was there back in 2000/1 then again in 2004 , it wasn’t quite so crowded, apart from a few thousand Harley Davidson Where we held the European hog rally, . It was amazing then and still is amazing now, I was riding a Softail Deuce, I had ridden just over 1500, in 3day , It was a amazing week of fun 🤩, I met 2 lovely young lady, 😂, and great ride outs Beautiful and amazing scenery, Controlling the superyacht looks very complicated, though I suppose with side thrusters it does make it a bit easier , great work, captain, and sailors, you boldly go, where no the other has gone, 😂 . If it wasn’t for my ex partner, I would still have my bike., but she has scammed me for hundreds of thousands of pounds over the last 20 years. I had to sell my bike, but I now live in France which is obviously closer to where I live before UK., Great tutorial on, controlling a superyacht backwards into your harbour, I hope you all have a present voyage, Phil from the moulin France.
Harley fest is still one of the best days there for sure
@@SuperyachtVideo Hi 👋, thank you for your reply, Some very interesting Yachts 🛥️ and Boats, being built now days, can virtually turn on their own axis, I have been watching a couple over the last 2/3 weeks sail across the Atlantic, I think they have docked somewhere in Portugal, but have not heard from the best part of five days now, so I presume they are enjoying themselves, As for Harley Davidson bikes, I’m hoping to buy a secondhand one later in this year, I do not have the money like I used to when I was working doing Barn conversions, making specialist doors and windows, now in my early 70s, but still reasonably fit, because of my problems with my ex partner, I’ve lost a lot of money, because of her, , at present I am struggling, especially as I have got storm damage on my property which normally I would be up there on it sorting it out, it has got very old asbestos tiles on the roof because of that I’ve got to get a special listen to remove them, believe it or not, that is more than the price of a bike, then on top of that I’ve got to pay for the tiles and installation and everything else that goes with it, I’ve been to St Tropez twice as I think I said the ride down from the UK with about 20 other Harley riders was is a bit hectic, The main thing is, we will all ride safe and sound, And riding over the Pyrenees and the Alps is always amazing, Thank you for the chat , not sure whether you are located, but hopefully I’ll be in St Tropez later this year or next all being well, I am looking 👀 for a secondhand, Softail Deuce , and they seem to have gone up in value quite a bit, Stay Safe, Phil from the moulin France.
Dramatic so much!! I cant belive you are all alive!
Impressive. .but still a tight spot. 😊😊😊great job Crew is very well skilled
Thanks 👍
Nice docking...no drama at all...👌
Just glad it was not windy
Wow !! Such drama!! I'm shocked. We need a viewer discretion warning on this 😳
I remembered docking rules since i onboard yacht way back year 2000 getting a small lisence😅 three rules slow3x🤣 docking and undock is not a contest as long as your boat is in safe no scratch at all
Netjes aangemeerd hoor. Erg professioneel
Thank you
Well done !!
Pretty standard dockning in the Med🤠
goed gedaan schipper, geen enkel probleem
très intéressant merci
Merci
Where is the dramatic end???????
If a narrow berth with no distance to neighbors is luxury?
Is a good point
Insane ! ...
Dramatic? Pretty f@#$ng amazing steering of that captain
Thank you for your comment
Was für ein Desaster! Mehr Drama geht nicht!
Muito bonito parabéns
Obrigado
My men did a good work.
Good docking. Still, reflecting: Here is a 23MM investment with which one can look out at other similar investments right next door, somewhat like a superlative camper on a crowded camping. Believe I would shun these places and concentrate on seeking secluded bays, nature, etc. Of course this is not my problem as I don't own one..... =)
Very true. St Tropez not a common destination for this yacht. 2022 it did Sweden, Denmark and then Norway, the latter in particular we didn’t see another yacht.
Do the yachts either side get advance warning of your arrival?....Is there any restrictions on what time you can dock?,....The French Riviera is a marvellous place !
Hi, if the crew is alert they will see the dock guys preparing, but normally the ports don’t come knocking to warn you, but it would be nice if they did so you can prepare better.
Nice job ! On first sight, no way it could goes in ...
That’s what the owner thought 😂
My respect capitain!
Thank you
If anyone wants to know who the owner is talking in the background he’s a famous Brit called Ronnie Pickering.
Nice job...BUT, there is only one Calypso.
I wouldn't want to have to do that on a windy day.
Exactly
Great video, thanks for sharing 💪
Thank you for you comments. Much appreciated
Dat was dus geen drama.
Dramatic ? Without wind, with a large crew both on the boat and the adjacent boats, bow thrusters, for me it's a standard docking. In the time that I knew, with a single engine, no thrusters, the maneuver was more delicate and the skills of the captain were put to much more use. People have no memories and are impressed now by simple things
Not a large crew at all, but thanks for you comment.
I think the mooring lines could have been prepared better.
I think the crew did an excellent job of getting the lines on quickly, safely , and without need for winching on the stern, and hence no stoppers required. This saves a lot of time and effort. Thank you for your comments though .
Engines at idle---steering set a straight ahead----transmissions at neutral----now, use only the transmissions to get in the berth---easy--peasey!!!!!!!!!
Use of rudder makes engine use much more effective.
@@SuperyachtVideo Boat not going fast enough for rudders to work quickly---using the transmissions makes adjustments fast and accurate---and lets not forget the bow thrusters and a boat that size probably has thrusters in the stern!!!
@@normanhowe-gl2tq Actually rudders have a massive effect, but not by forward motion. They are used by using prop wash on turned rudders, which results in thrust. For example , turning the rudder to starboard, and engaging port ahead momentarily , will give a blast of water against the port rudder. This is deflected to starboard, and the resultant is in effect a thrust to port of the stern. It is a very powerful effect. It is how single screw vessels have to handled.
@@SuperyachtVideo The screws and rudder are a long way from the longitudinal centre of mass of the boat - I presume that makes the steering adjustments quite delicate.
@@SuperyachtVideo It must be very gratifying to get all this wonderful free advice in the comments!
and why does it have to be this way? I mean there could be more space between the vessels...
Effectively an old fishing port made famous by Bridget Bardot, but not much bigger now than then. Space is a premium . New marinas are built with more space in mind. Saying that, in Europe. Car parking spaces haven’t changed size, but the average car is probably 50%bigger
drama? we have onions on the allotment with more drama
That’s shallot of drama
I could have done that, and I never even been on a boat. St.Paul,Minnesota.
What was dramatic in this ?
I have enough problems with a car to parking. I don't need a ship for that 🤦
Who's boat ?
Wow 23 million and no more space than a multi story car park!
Avec de l'entraînement ça ira
I can’t imagine how absolutely ghastly it must be, squeezed up together like that with your nextdoor neighbour less than a metre away…..on both sides. Ugh, horrible. How can you bear it. I mean what would you do if your neighbour smoked or even a touch of flatulence.
Clickbait...no drama here
That boat is only worth 50 of my houses
Saaaaai...
Why drama? This is ST
Dramatic??
That’s remarkable, like trying to put socks on a rooster!
2.300.0000,是那个國家錢幣。
Dramatic ????? Fake title to get clicks !
dramatic ?? Why ?
''Watch to the end!!!''........................then l get my Adsense money.
36 meters 23 million euros and 3inches clearance on either side LMFAO
Oh darling, spending a night that close to others with your nice little motor yacht - get out on your pick away from the maddening crowd . This is the issue with the Med now - too many people and too many other boats . Ta ta !
And little space to anchor also with the sea grass restrictions, and not enough buoys. Pampalone is a car park now
У нас в Росси если ты купил себе надувную лодки 3.6 метра длиной, ты уже обеспеченный гражданин...🤣🤣🤣
'Social boating' ?
where is the drama? probably, in your head?
Où c’est DRAMATIQUE ?! N’importe quoi 😮
Next time just call the local police, the gendarmerie.
I feel like throwing up when I see people full of money and alone
Jeez they allow young kids on a boat like that, never on mine.
We put kiddy protection netting around the yacht so they are safe, and don’t open the balcony. Is good.
Exactly. Drama my ass.
Ithink everything went well , no problems whatsoever, i cant do it better even afrer a whole life sailing the riuver rhine inland barges and Ocean tugs at sea asMaster and skipper and yes i am stillavailable as master mariner unlimmited , i will wait for your reply . Ik hoor ook wat nederlanders daar als bemanning , laat ik jullie dit vertellen , dat je pas echt goed leert manouvreren op de binnenvaart en nergens anders, helaas.
with bow and stern thrusters it's really not that hard
No stern thruster used there. Only the smallest amount of bow thruster too. Good use of rudder initially, and having the yacht lined up perfectly for the entry.
Ugh.. Everywhere you look theres someone playing with a phone....Humanity is doomed.
Dramatic for who??? 🤣🤣🤣
Big drama!!!
thats st tropez, bunched up yachts. And at a cost
Yes always fun as you know. Thank you for your comments
Where is the drama. Fake title !!
For the owners it was dramatic.
Could't the Saint T port authority leave a little bit more space between boats? I'm sure some can anchor in the bay provided there is a shuttle service… At any rate I certainly would rather command a container ship than one of those fe***k jewels where you have to know tow with the owners while making joke : next time an accident happens, they will be friends no more and you'll be left like a no good on the next dock. Hate those luxury boats built for grifters.
Rijke Nederlanders!
Heck, if you can do this that slow you can do it faster. Hold my beer
slow is pro
"Dramatic" what?
