    • While we're on this topic: A country after getting shocked by a big financial crisis, elects a new leader with less than 50% of the popular vote. That leader is a megalomaniac, telling people that a particular group of people is evil and responsible for all their problems and withdraws from treaties while arming the country. Greedy establishment figures think they can manage the crazy person and get some deals done under this cover. Meanwhile fascist dictatorial leaders rise in several countries. Sadly this describes Germany in the 30s as well as the US today. Unlike Hitler, Trump didn't have brownshirts ready - but the Khaki wearing supremacists and nutjob evangelicals flock to him readily enough. I hope US institutions survive this rise of moronic fascism. The sheer lazy incompetence of the current administration might save us. But some people don't consider The Handmaids Tale a dystopia.

Neighboors are friends in those places, and everyone isn't afraid of each other. Meanwhile, some Americans get uptight if you ask them to take their shoes off when entering someone else's home.

    • I don't understand why we have to allow people into our country without looking into their background. These are different times and the landscape has changed. I am not saying the US needs to stop immigration but Americans have the right to protect their country from outsiders with no background checks. I shouldn't be able to enter your house without your invitation or knowing who I am. The US needs to stop meddling in other countries problems and take care of its own problems at home, immigration is a small part of that. Another question, which I think is valid for discussion, is why are people that are immigrating not taking charge of their country and fighting for their rights? Many countries have done so and it is an unfortunate situation but if people love their country, they should not be abandoning it and fight for change.

    • monokhem That must explain why we have the shortest life expectancy compared to Europe. Politicians want you to think that we have the best healthcare. But its no different from the rest of the world. People come here for certain treatments just like most Americans go to Canada and Europe for special treatments.

      @numerical25@numerical256 жыл бұрын
    • For medical outcomes, US healthcare actually does generally perform the best, i.e. how long a patient lives after being treated for breast cancer. The reason the US has a shorter expectancy compared to other developed countries interestingly isn't due to healthcare. People die because of other reasons than health, and the reason the US's life expectancy is so low is that more Americans die younger from fatal injuries (like car accidents and violent crime) than other developed countries. When deaths from fatal injuries are taken out, the US's life expectancy actually jumps to the top of the list. But this isn't to say that we don't have major issues that need to be addressed. It's very broken in many aspects, but does do a great job when you can afford it. Which is sad.

  • Every time a legal immigrant who was in this country as part of a formerly protected immigrant class is kicked out against the advice of ambassadors and experts on their home country a trumper gets a red cap! And every time one of those same legal immigrants goes to Canada and asks for asylum the USA gets another black eye & the world sees a little bit more of just how much we suck.

    @mistressXXjamie@mistressXXjamie6 жыл бұрын
    • The world already knows how much you suck, it's Americans you gotta explain it to ( so they can change and better their country blah blah blah)

      @adriannablack9495@adriannablack94956 жыл бұрын
    • Adrianna Black most Americans already know how much America sucks. Unfortunately it seems that in order to keep America as white and Christian as possible they're happy to keep America sucky as fuck. I can't explain it. I don't understand it. A recent study showed that ppl voted for Trump bc they felt that white Christians were losing power in America, that America was losing power on the global stage and they felt Trump could fix all that. The same voters also feel he's doing a good job delivering on his campaign promises and doing a good job as president so there's that. It's all racist, tribalist, nationalist insanity. Hopefully ppl that didn't vote in 2016 or don't usually vote at all see what happens when so many ppl don't vote and they do the right thing thus November and ever November from now on and this never ever happens again. I'm also hoping that big changes happen on a state level bc a lot of ppl are really suffering on a personal level where the federal govt can't or won't help or where the states really must step in and aren't willing to bc they're Republican controlled and repubs keep control through fear and misinformation. It's long past time that shit stopped and ppl stopped suffering needlessly. The opiate crisis could be cut in half by the legalization of medical marijuana, but red states are refusing to believe in the science so the patients are stuck with opiates for pain relief which is a terrible and risky way to live, but when the repub party doesn't believe in science what can be done other than to replace them? Hope that happens soon for everyone's sake.

      @mistressXXjamie@mistressXXjamie6 жыл бұрын
    • The saddest part of this is that even if more people voted in 2016 we would have ended up with clinton or sanders and have been even worse off than with trump.

  • I should point out that this is entirely appropriate. Although it isn't the best system, people are supposed to cross the border illegally and declare their intent to seek asylum. The idea is that you can't seek asylum in your home country, because then it would be either too easy or too hard to seek asylum - at the whim of the country that you're seeking asylum in. If Nigerians could seek asylum in the US while in Nigeria, the US would either have to fly them to the US, or they'd have to protect them in Nigeria indefinitely (and almost certainly never accept any claims). The current system is a strange balance where refugees are allowed to make themselves a headache for a country (though refugees do contribute a lot to their host society, it isn't easy or cheap to reject their claims, and there is no upside to a rejected claim for anyone), but they have to go through the enormous expense and effort to actually get to that country to get the privilege. Of course, that means wealthy Nigerians can pay the (EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE) tickets and hope to get asylum, and poor Nigerians who are more vulnerable have no such option. Ideally, we would have a different system, but the refugee issue makes white supremacists (and other kinds of supremacists in non-white countries) throw hissy-fits, so nothing changes because even though white supremacists might actually benefit from a better solution, they won't stop their tantrum long enough to negotiate.

When they're allowed to stay you help them settle in for a period of time, till they get their shit together. Months later, the man finds a job, starts paying rent to the original home owner. After a couple of years, the man buys his own home now that he's a part of the neighbour.

Give back all your clothing and possesions not made by america that includes your phones and sneakers etc, because china is the largest manufacturer in the world. And fruit or vegetable not native to america such as avocados, rambutans and peaches will be seized. Your a perfect example of an ignorant american that whole world has come to known and hate

If thats how your going to defend your case by stating that im delusional instead of using facts then your nothing more that a child throwing a tantrum just like your orange president that you voted for
