Anyone else notice how in the last frame when the ship is flying over the clouds that he's a kid again?
I guess it makes him a kid again! (or he feels like it) ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I saw it too
Great observation. I guess that if we never give up on our dreams we will never age!
Good eye :), that is only visible for 2 frames of animation, or 1/12th of a second!
Well my interpretation of it was that he only dreamt it all up as a kid. When he got off the toy, he imagined himself working hard and long throughout his life until one day he'd empty it all to launch off in the spaceship! So the whole film didn't really span decades, it covers only a timespan of about 5 minutes that he spent fantasizing about his childhood! I think it's all the more plausible since the film begins with fantasizing as well :)
His mom just ditches him lol
used to be, you could do that. time changes things, not always for the better.

Worthy of the winning award movie title, it was one of the great 5 minutes in my life. The man worked hard, he dreamt big and he achieved his dream. In my opinion, the film is not a moral lesson about working hard or money’s power, but the importance of having a goal/dream in our life, the one that motivate us to move forward, to live another day, and to pursue our own happiness. By the way, his disappointed face when he first tried the rocket spring rider was priceless, such a pure innocent look (and a little cute) when he found out the reality does not like his expectation, we all have been there, right:)?. That’s all for my amateur critics, peace.
Well said. Period.

Or the fact that ride was still there and functional during his lifetime. I know this story is more symbolic then literal, but still.
When we're kids, We dream of growing up and reaching the stars, but in the end, we spend our whole lives working, wishing for one chance to be a kid again.
some people are lucky enough to not have a fully realized dream, and spend their childhood wondering what their purpose is, only to realize years later, they are content with what they have achieved when i was a kid, i wanted to be a writer. it hasn't happened yet, but i have 60-70 years left, and yet, im happy with the life i have

i'm a senior year screenwriting student whos feeling very, very burnt-out and impassionate about screenwriting. however, i was reminded of this short that i saw at the pittsburgh shorts festival in 2018. it made me emotional and inspired then, and it just reminded me why i love to make movies now.
Thanks for the comment Julianna, sorry it took me a while to reply. I go through the same cycle, and sometimes feel burnt-out and over it myself. It's always the work of others that reminds me of my original, pure love of film, and gets me re-inspired. So glad I could pay that forward a little. *i think it’s sad how people have to work there whole life just for one dream and never achieve it*
That is what this video meant...
IKR..
I don't think it's sad, I think it's just human nature, to work towards the never arriving tomorrow. Working towards that one dream and never losing hope till the last breath actually sounds quite inspiring to me, even if, it's not achieved.
@@ermina4396 ya it's human nature and that's sad.
Most people have that experience because they try to do it by themselves for themselves. Collaborate and shave years off the process and achieve multiple goals. Its probably better to have realistic goals. I felt like that old guy before launch when I realized we never went to the moon. 90% of what we "know" about space is a fantasy just like him flying away in a coin operated rocket ship. This video was great though.
when the rocket launched i got instant goosebumps...such a powerful animated film

How moving this film is. It is so metaphoric of the hardships of our lives in the pursuit of our dreams... provided we do not lose sight of them as we grow up. Many many thanks for this beautiful work. Happy new Year to all (Joëlle from Paris).

Yeah! I think so too. But we never know what lies beyond this life! Maybe he is now exploring space without having to go to Uni and NASA training....without even a suit! I like to think that our dreams will come true. God made us, so he gave us our dreams too, as a promise!
@@rashmishukla1022 كج
The lesson I learned from the video is to never give up. Always try your best to achieve your dreams. Work hard towards your dreams and never lose hope until your last breath. And there must be goals and dreams in life, which are the driving force that motivates us to move forward. There will be difficulties when we pursue our dreams, but as long as we do not lose our passion when we grow up.

I think this is a metaphor. He wasn’t actually selling lemonade for the rest of his life. It showed that he always had hoped to go to the moon but he never had. Then when he dies he blast off to the moon with the spirit of when he was a child. Edit: also I don’t think his mom ditched him I think all this just represents his life and how he moved into his own house and didn’t live with his mom anymore.

Yeah same yeah
I love this film it has a heart warming conclusion and the songs rally match his emotion.
I interpreted it this way. The whole story happened in the mind of the kid after the first disappointing 5¢ ride. That's why the price of lemonade never changed and he was assessing how many years and 5¢s it'd take for him to actually go that distant. He could only think of lemonade stand as the only way to earn money atm. It just represented his passion, will and drive to fly to the moon. This is a brilliant display of a child's vivid imagination. Thanks for making it. :)
Если бы у него действительно было богатое воображение, он бы сразу вообразил, что летит на Луну и ему не пришлось бы представлять всю свою дальнейшую жизнь.
You are stupid and you wrong
Bravo! The best explanation provided. Agree.

Stop using logic when watching this masterpiece, This's art, it has it's own value, it has story
Story: Child becomes a literal neckbeard, selling lemonade for meager sums, with the hopes that a coin operated ride will take him to space instead of studying and working hard to become an actual astronaut. /end What’s the lesson here? That you can chase pipe dreams as long as you have the money to do so? The animation is just a repackaging of tacky, all-american, work-hard-n-save-up, follow your dreams BS.

You completely did not get what this animation is about.
@@flybeep1661 Maybe you can help explain it because all I'm seeing is the same message that we all seem to buy into. Work hard and put off being happy because it's all going to pay off, just keep working a little longer, a little longer, you'll be happy later, we swear, just keep working at it a little longer and you'll get to be happy, just be patient. But it never comes, you just keep going and hoping and being patient until you realize that this is it. You have to enjoy the scenery that is passing you right now or else your whole life will pass you like the blink of an eye and you'll regret that you never actually got to the moon, but maybe if you had just "worked harder" or if "those damn ___ wouldn't have ___". I see so many people focusing on what they don't have, like the boy letting all those people pass through his stand without forming a relationship with a single one of them. Nothing was even a blip on his radar because he fixated so much on what he didn't have. He didn't even find pleasure in his little toy rocket anymore, he just kept thinking "Someday I'll be happy, and then all of this will have been worth it"
@@darklight8675 I understand, but that is exactly what I'm talking about. Everyone promises you that hard work pays off, but that's just a carrot dangling just out of reach to keep you running at full speed. When you "work hard" the majority of the time your efforts are going toward someone else accomplishing their dream at the expense of your own.
@@darklight8675 Hmm, okay, I could probably compact my message down to "Don't forget to enjoy today while working towards tomorrow" or maybe "Don't confuse working hard with pursuing happiness". The rest of your comment is confusing, borderline gibberish, so I'm going to ignore it.

Gonna share this one with all of my friends who are a kid at heart. Wow!
I was that kid. I got a Steve Canyon fighter pilot helmet on my 5th birthday. I built dozens of model airplanes. I had P-51 Mustang posters on my wall. When I got a little older I realized I had to grow up and get a degree and a real career. On my way to my first interview after college, I happened to pass a US Navy officer recruiting office. I stopped in to check things out. 45 minutes later I raised my right hand and swore an oath to support the Constitution of the United Stated States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. 18 months later I walked out to the flight line at NAS Oceana, helmet in hand, looking at a long line of F-4 Phantoms, one of which I was to fly for the first time. It was a surreal experience, much stranger in some ways than this little film.
I think the moral of the story is, life is full of disappointments but it's not those that should be remembered. And sometimes in these brief, glorious moments, we can feel like we are young again and live forever. You know a Calvin & Hobbes animated series like this would be so cool.
Used to love C & H

Some may understand it with the romantic look of “believe in your dreams”, “never give up”, “make lemonade out of lemons”, “everything works out in the end”, “have a purpose and pursue it at any cost”… But I see a life obsessed with a childish dream, without objectivity, a life focused on the end, without living the path during the journey, where that lemonade becomes currency to buy the sad happy ending… The video is called “coin operated” and , at the end of the day, whether we like it or not, no matter how much we think we are better than others, we are also operated by coins.
it reminds me of a song named "fix u by coldplay " and i think it's so relatable to this : When you try your best, but you don't succeed When you get what you want, but not what you need When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep Stuck in reverse And the tears come streaming down your face When you lose something you can't replace When you love someone, but it goes to waste Could it be worse?
