    • Normally, you get a warning. Same with avelanches. Of course there is always a chance it gets undetected, but since it is well known, extra forests get planted in the riskier hills to prevent this from happening. But after a heavy storm or a wildfire, the protective forest could be too weak until the new trees grow.

It would be hard to remediate it now, because houses have been built up all around them. But if a catch basin or pond were located ever few hundred yards, it would slow the water, make the sediment recoverable, and smooth out the sudden spikes in flow, which are terrible for wildlife.

    • Hi, I live in the yellow house of the video and we were inside when it happened. No loss of life... for this one at least (unfortunately, another river, just 150m away, in 2019 take the life of 3 people) In the end, the river was enlarge, both deeper and broader with a wall where the mud go out that day. According to some expert, the cliff lost that day everything that was able to fall. Not sure for today situation, but well we got the wall now. For the rest, the whole thing was clean after 3-4 day, the communal council was helpful. No damage to the bridge. For our house, the mud didn't enter the garage (thanks to the iron structure of the wooden gate) but the gate was curved because of the pressure. There was a cat-entrance, but without any fluid, the mud loose his momentum and effectively block the passage with his own weight. The front garden was wiped clean, mailbox MIA, the mud just stop a meter away from the front door and we lost the two car : - The gray one (unseen in this video, behind the Renault Espace) was push and a bit crush against a stone wall. Even if the wall was diformed and not the car, we took no chance and replace it. - The Renault Espace was literally lift and drop in the neighboor garden, 5ish meter away from his front, windowed, entrance. Unable to estimate the damage done by such lifting, it was replace too. You can ask your question, if you want more info.
