  • ATTENTION ALL ENGINEERS AND MOTOR MECHANICS I'm an engineer (but not a Mechanic) I know it's comedy but just for curiosity sake LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS - I don't think this could happen like this , AM I WRONG ? - He's suggesting that he had 1 side Positive and negative to their correct terminals and the Other side to the crossed Terminals - Now.. Even though in a dead battery, you should hook up the Negative Lead on the dead battery side to a ground reference (AND YES THIS CAN CAUSE A POSSIBLE FAULT) I doubt an explosion this big Perhaps, Blown fuse due to over current Perhaps Fried Electronics - Also, Given that the car has a dead battery 1. it wouldn't start right away you'd have to wait like 20mins or so 2. if you tried to start it right away , it doesn't have enough current to do this... right ? - Also, say the battery is fine and the alternator is fucked, I still don't see an explosion like this happen. I can see Jumper cables melting i can Shorts in the car happening, but not this I'M CURIOUS.... IS THERE ANY REALISTIC SCENARIO WHERE SOMETHING LIKE THIS COULD ACTUALLY HAPPEN I would expect an explosion like this to come from High Voltage Power Lines ANY THOUGHTS

    @martinkuliza@martinkuliza11 ай бұрын
    • When you connect jumper leads from one car to another, the current from the running car goes straight through the metal conductor points you connect to and then to the starter motor and basically uses the juice from the running car to start the dead car rather than charging the dead battery, it pretty much bypasses the dead battery because you're connecting your live battery from the running car. However getting the ends wrong I IMAGINE would probably short out as soon as you touch, not when you try to start the car, though I've never been stupid enough to try it.

      @Streetw1s3r@Streetw1s3r11 ай бұрын
    • Well, not me but a close relative had a bad habit of touching the + clip to the - clip when jump starting just to make sure there’s spark. Until one day the battery in question exploded about 2 feet from his face. He was deaf for 2 days, burnt face, facial hair etc. So some kind of explosive reaction must be possible in certain circumstances.

      @shcottyboy67@shcottyboy6711 ай бұрын
    • @@shcottyboy67 Yeah sure, THAT !! I perfectly understand. that's called A SHORT CIRCUIT The BATTERY is your power source And.. to create a SAFE CIRCUIT you need an ELECTRICAL LOAD (A thing to absorb and use the power and to draw current) When you tap the clips together you create a LOW RESISTANCE CONDUCTIVE PATH Basically there is no load (which is usually the car) and current is high (which is dangerous) and yes, Most certainly the battery can explode Because there is nothing to consume the power coming from the battery I've literally shown friends how a 9V Battery can explode in your pocket if a coin short circuits the 2 terminals. You get a 9V Battery pop a coin on top Place a clear container over it and stand back for like 10 or 15minutes. assuming the battery was full, it'll explode and the coin will go red but this was different, there are 2 batteries, if wired correct, CURRENT CAN FLOW and the potentials are correct but one side was Positive to Positive, Negative to Negative the other car has Positive to Negative and Negative to Positive meaning .. if the positive from one car is connected to the negative of the other and the negative from one is connected to the positive of the other, current wouldn't flow when you start the car, the started kicks over the engine which attempts to draw power from teh battery but if current can't flow, i would expect the car to just not start, Especially if this faulty battery was dead it's not like both batteries were full so yeah , i'm looking for the opinion of another engineer or Mechanic, just want to bounce a few ideas and see if anyone can see a fault in my logic

      @martinkuliza@martinkuliza11 ай бұрын
    • @@shcottyboy67 I was also gonna say Connecting things incorrectly is more about your'e going to damage the cars circuitry as opposed to an explosion

      @martinkuliza@martinkuliza11 ай бұрын
    • @@shcottyboy67 Sorry, lastly "SOME KIND" of explosive reaction is definitely possible (IN CERTAIN SITUATIONS) Of course, because you have a battery that has Low Voltage, High Current, it's possible but i'm looking at the specific scenario here. Basically .... one car battery is full the other is dead Jumper leads get connected Positive's first negatives last (and not to ground but to battery negative) but.. he cross Polarizes the other side IN THAT SCENARIO.... I don't think so , i don't think it'll blow because her car couldn't start in the first place and her battery was dead
