Taking on the Thunderbird | 2023 St Mary's Trophy Pt2 full race | Goodwood Revival

2023 ж. 13 Қыр.
326 437 Рет қаралды

The second part of the St Mary's Trophy came down to a straight fight between mighty, lumbering Ford Thunderbird and classic Jaguar Mk1. With stars including Chris Ward, Top Gear's Chris Harris and Dickie Meaden, the battle between little and large was as 'on' as it ever has been.

    • It's all done for the show! The Mk2 Jaguar with a 3.8 litre engine was available in the 'fifties but is not allowed to compete, whereas the Standard Vanguard 6 was introduced in 1961 and is allowed in, even with a 2.5 litre engine that was never fitted to the Vanguard (and wasn't even built until the late 'sixties). And of course the A35 and A40 were never fitted with 1300cc engines - if they can run with bigger engines, why can't the Alfa Romeo have a 1750 or 2-litre engine?

Stock they were rated at 350Hp and 480 ft lbs torque, haven't put mine on the dyno but id say those ratings are fairly close. Has no trouble smoking the tires and it'll lift the front up if you put your foot down at 100mph.. 140mph doesn't phase it at all.. And mine is completely stock, from points ignition to the original Carter carb.. It's a fun car to drive and handles surprisingly well for it's size - only thing that lets it down is the poor old drum brakes, they fade out quickly!
