Just FYI - Obie isn't from the UES. He lives in Brooklyn. No one in this show actually lives in the UES except Audrey and maybe Max. They all live in very expensive areas around the city, but not UES which is actually really important to their characters

the teachers talking about how bad it is for them to stalk the students and still does it anyways is so creepy, i wouldn’t be surprised if some people stopped watching the show because of that
I wanna skip the parts whenever the teachers show up, but they're there to further the plot. They're there to basically ruin everything
i just don't think ab it too hard. it's over the top and funny how the teachers are gossip girl. like yeah it would be creepy irl but this is gossip girl everything is over the top so like 🤷🏻♀️ the teachers are a mess and i think their scenes are some of the funniest in the show amongst all of the angsty drama.
I think Eli brown went to the writers room and suggested it lol the guy who played Obie and he was in the perfectionist that was cancelled and the professor was the big bad so they had the teachers on gossip girl be gossip girl which can be a nod to pretty little liars the Perfectionists

I think this show has a lot of potential but you can see a huge difference between Season 1A and Season 1B. I think Season 1B is superior because that’s when the show started to be its own thing and tackle its own storylines. Season 1A was just Blair and Serena fighting with a little Jenny vibes thrown in. I get they were trying to keep the ties to the OG GG alive but I think this show thrives as it’s own story with its own characters. And the teachers deserve to be in *JAIL*

I don't like Zoya's new friend, I can deal with her skipping school and sneaking into a performance, even getting Zoya to break her grounding, but the moment she stole an elderly persons wallet for no reason was the moment I instantly hated her.

It’s already been confirmed they hired new writers (hoping it’s positive and not the downfall)
I like to think that Obie’s unlikeability was an intentional writing choice. He represents the type of rich person who positions themselves as an activist and morally righteous person ... when it is his families ‘blood money’ that allows him the luxury of choosing that position in the first place. Late stage capitalism can remove so much dignity of the lower classes that it is almost impossible to always be morally righteous because you need to simply survive. Obie never has to worry about surviving, which frees up a lot of his time and energy. He also never does anything meaningful in regards to his activism, it’s always surface level. Because deep down I think his self professed righteousness is really about how it makes him feel about himself rather than how it helps other people. This kind of egocentric philanthropy is rampant among the 1% because it allows them to feel like a ‘good person’ without having to dismantle the capitalist class system that gives them abundant privilege. In this sense I actually really like his character because I enjoy the social commentary. But if I was to meet a real life Obie- yeah I would strongly dislike him. I’d be so curious to see how Obie behaves as an adult when he has full autonomy over his life ... I have a feeling he would be reluctant to indulge in a lower class lifestyle despite how he loves to romanticise it as a teenager. Great video, thank you!

His biphobia is what convinced me it is intentional. If they were really trying to make him seem genuine, he wouldn't have cared at all. Then again, it doesn't really make sense to me why a bunch of progressive gen z would even care about Aki's bisexuality and not other topics. Like, why is it shocking for them that Aki is bi but not that Monet and Max are queer? Or some other identities from other characters, like race, etc.

I don’t think this reboot will last at all. There’s nothing that’s happened in this show that will keep anyone coming back for more. I feel like the writers didn’t map the drama well. Julien’s dad’s story was absolutely rushed and should have unfolded over the entire season rather than the last three episodes. Zoya’s dad should have secretly been Julien’s dad’s lawyer and in on the whole thing and, again, that should have come out over the whole season and offered some depth to Zoya’s dad. There needed to be closer ties that didn’t involve their dead mom (sorry). This show would have really benefitted from everyone having a dirty little secret, like the original. Even for Zoya, her secret being her getting bullied and locked in the school and setting a fire was not the drama they presented it to be; it was just tragic. Luna is my favorite and I want to see more of her if this show sticks around. Obie should have been bullied and I don’t understand why he wasn’t. His character was insulting the fact that his obvious shortcomings were never brought up made zero sense to me. All in all, I think this entire series fell short and they need new writers and a new show runner and a better plan for how this show should play out.

I feel like the show should focus on characters that are interesting, not necessarily “good”. That was what made the original so engaging. Nobody gave a shit about the “good” characters in the og, we cared about Blair who is, objectively, not the best person. The new one should be its own thing while leaning into the villainous and nepotistic side of its more interesting characters (Monet, Luna, Max).
I feel like the teachers should just have been written to be absolutely awful characters that THINK they're doing good and are all self-righteous because they are not multi-millionaires and therefore their terrible actions are justified whereas the actions of multi-millionaire children that are equally terrible should be condemned. Like idk they all have victim complexes and at the end of the day are just creepy sadists. I have only watched parts of the show so idk if that is the direction their taking or not, but I feel sad that they didn't make the new Gossip Girl a more complex and interesting character. Especially with social media and Influencer culture (with Julien literally being an influencer) they could have used that to create a much more interesting Gossip Girl, maybe one that exposes how toxic and harmful social media is for literal children.

Kate gets callled out for this in the last episode and it’s oh so satisfying Honestly just skip to the second half of the season past the holiday episodes and they address some of this the second half was way better than the first
Honestly, I never realized how I much I hated some characters but I’m gonna start with how much I do like Monet, and she’s finally going to start taking things in her own hands, because Julien flips way too much and it’s constantly annoying. I love Luna, and I’m honestly enjoying her, The Aki, Audrey, Max love thing is a mess. It’s not as good as they’re making it seem, honestly things need to hurry up and end with some storylines.

I really only like Monet but they’ve hardly develop her as a character. They focused on making her Julien’s assistant popularity manager rather than developing her as an individual so far in season 1A.
I feel like even though the original gossip girl was unrelatable it was aspirational in a way and you were invested in their lives. I don’t feel the same level of investment with these characters tbh
Also I understood the characters, like I could describe their drives and how their actions, good and bad, suited their personality. 90% of the characters in this series follow the decided plot to cause drama, without it making sense for themselves at all.
i just can't believe we are still doing teacher/student plotlines in 2022... and debating about whether it is okay. the teacher is in a position of power, regardless of how old or confident the student is. as the adult, the teacher has more power over the situation and therefore is predatory and taking advantage of the student. even if they weren't student/teacher, it is still a fully grown adult and an 18-year-old.
The only thing I can say I liked about this storyline is that the teacher actually admitted he was the problem and that he was targeting Max to make himself feel justified in his own actions and then he leaves forever hopefully

I have some thoughts on Audrey - she's actually one of my favorite characters in any show. She's a perfectionist going through her own sexual awakening. Very early on in this series, she communicates with her partner about their relationship and talking to a relationship counselor, then allowing each other the space and trust to see other people, was REALLY healthy and impressive. She becomes high strung when things leave her control (like when her mom was in the hospital), and it seems like she works really hard in her classes (she's in multiple APs and her friends have specifically done things so that she doesn't miss those classes, whereas the only other character we hear about the classes of is Zoya). She can go from very calm, does not care at all, to very anxious and hyperfocused. She has had to take care of her mom, while also being on some kind of student organization, so she's responsible and loyal. I think that her relationship with her mom is reflected in how she treats her friends, and why she gravitated to Aki. When people talk to her about things she's not really interested in, she becomes very monotone and removes herself. She seems more mature than others in the friend group, not really playing a part in the popularity game. As someone who is this responsible perfectionist, she thus seeks chaos in her relationship with Max. He's not "safe," which can be attractive to someone so used to always doing the "right" or "safe" thing. I was very happy with how they portrayed their decision to try a polyamorous relationship, and I hope that the show handles this kind of relationship well. There have also been some analyses on her based on her outfits and the books she reads, which make a lot of sense.

Definitely agreed! Just a slight correction: it's a polyamorous relationship, not polygamous. Polygamy is specifically one person getting married to multiple people and is usually religious in nature. Polyamory is what Max/Aki/Audrey are doing!

I think Season 1B saved the show, it is vastly superior to Season 1A. Overall, Max is my favorite and he just needs someone to actually be there for him - I hope we see more growth from Max is Season 2. Also, I want more odd combos between the friend group, like Max and Luna, it’s really entertaining to see the friends dynamic outside of Julien. Lastly, Obie is the worst character in the show and I truly can’t stand him, he’s gotta go.

In the original series I also thought the whole obsession with who gossip girl was was kind of stupid because it doesn’t really matter. Everyone sending in tips and everyone is a collective is kinda acting as gossip girl. I think gossip girl should stay anonymous and the teachers are being creepy. I almost wish that the teachers started it and then immediately stopped it and then another account popped up, then I could feel better about watching the show.
in the books gossip girl is never revealed. i think the identity of who gossip girl is takes away from the show, because you don’t always need a reason and a motive. and it’s more about what GG does to the teenagers and the problems it makes. it would be interesting to see who GG would be, but since the original and the reeboot both reveals make no sense
Yes. You touched on it and i just want to highlight that, Gossip Girls identity doesn't matter because in the show, everyone is Gossip Girl. She isn't this omnipresent entity, terrorizing the students, she's a monster of their own making. GG doesn't create drama, the characters themselves create it by doing dumb, shady, illegal shit, keeping secrets and then blasting one another by sending GG tips. Half the time, GG doesn't even do anything, just presses upload on all the stuff that's sent to her. Knowing Gossip Girls identity ruins this as it puts the blame on one person and takes away from the actions of the characters that led to all the drama. Not knowing forces the characters and audience to think about and acknowledge the role the main characters played in their drama instead of focusing on that one person.
omg, yeah the monet betrayal moment was rlly disappointing because it went against her character for the sake of plot. Tbh i decided to block it out as a thing that happened for the rest of the show.

Obie is easily the most disliked character Obie made me dislike Jullien and Zoya The writers focus on this trio made half the season so boring and tiring to watch! They should have shown us a little background stories about other characters especially Monet and Luna! Someone wouldn't even have this enthusiastic anticipation for the next episode; thank God they stepped up in Part 2 of the S1 PS:Pls give Monet an official girlfriend and relationship that makes her vulnerable! Tried so hard to watch season 1 for my babies; Monet, Luna, Audrey and Max So excited for S2 Monet Supremacy

The second half of the season I really fell in love with Aki, Max and Audrey, I like Luna and Monet too I just want them to flesh them out more cause they barely did anything in the second half. Everyone else is trash especially Obie and Zoya... self important, ignorant, hypocritical people, they make it really hard to watch the show sometimes. Julian is so/so she doesn’t always make the best decisions but often she gets blamed for other people doing things and getting upset when people she’s closest with betray her so most of the time I feel bad for her.
I felt like 1B really saved the show until that monologue. The season finale was tying up storylines and setting up new ones for the next season SO WELL and then that monologue just… yeah. It was so cringe and instantly killed my excitement for season 2.
Lmaooo idk why (maybe the music) but it hyped me up for season two even though I didn’t know what the hell she was talking about 😂
The thing that really got me is you have two beautiful black women fighting over Obie and he is NOT attractive in any type of way. None of the guys on the show are really attractive to me except Aki. The other complaint I have about the show and characters no-one and nothing is memorable. Every episode I don't know what is going on, or what happen from the last it just blah. ( I stoped before you got to Obie and commeted this, Thank you I am glad someone else see's what I see🤣 bc Obie🥴)
Things that made me feel very uncomfortable about this show: (1) Gossip Girl is a group of teachers! And they spy on their students after school! (2) Julien's friends try to destroy Julien's relationship with Zoya. They really should not get involved with Julien's family issue. This is not a fun plot for me. (3) Obie's relationship with a sibling.
Love the new mic! It’s great. One thing I might suggest is balancing the background music levels just a tad lower in volume as the high notes would sometimes mix with your voice and make it harder to hear what you were saying. Great video! Loving the content :)
this shows make zero sense. the primary thing that GG always had going for it, even tho it often also didn’t make a lot of sense, is that it was funny and had at least a couple of genuinely likeable characters (struggles a bit at the end obviously). i feel like this show is not funny at all, even when it’s so plainly trying to be funny, and i don’t like any of the characters no matter how hard i try 😭
Thank goodness , I thought I was the only one who didn’t understand why Zoya and Julian were fighting over obie. Like no offence to the actor he’s not all that . Not to mention the fact that he is a horrible person, what is there to like? I also agree with everything else you said, they all need to work on themselves. Hoping for some character development in season 2 😚

I would say that the Gossip Girl reboot was a poor attempt by a rival network to rip off the success of Euphoria, but Euphoria is on HBO and Gossip Girl is on HBO Max, so they ripped off their own show
I find it hard to believe that as a character Kate Weller would have a problem with Nick Lott accepting the money. Like she's a teacher, she should know how expensive New York can be. And she made some questionable decisions when it came to "helping the kids". And she wasnt even a parent just a teacher. Like why did she understand responsibility in the context involving her, but like Nick making sure he can put food on the table and having a place to live was so hard to understand. Like he accepted responsibility for an influencer with expensive taste going to an expensive private school getting ready to go to college after a pandemic. Like I don't know why that should even be a question of his morals. I don't understand how she would think that he was supporting him especially after talking to him. He just agreed to look after someone else's daughter, like I would expect Davis to contribute financially. The whole fight just seemed to be there because that what was written. It didn't make much sense. Though most of these characters and their reactions don't make a lot of sense. Great video btw!!💜
max - i agree they should of went more into why he pops pills because since the first episode he’s been popping them and whenever he was at a breaking point he would just spiral and go on a bender. definitely wasted potential for a great storyline with him. Julien- Her being an influencer is so cringe like i know influencers can be rich and have money but it made no sense like she could of just been a nepotism baby since her dad was a famous grammy winning producer and the show could of done a take on old money vs new money. showing how the two our different but both still very much rich like i feel like that could of been a good elephant in the room for to cause drama and chaos in a gossip girl like fashion ! also when she said i’m not just know i’m influential i lost it Audrey- was likable at times but also annoying i feel like she is supposed to be painted as this smart girl who is like always reading but hangs out with her popular crowd. i think she’s just a regular mean girl who just likes to read tbh. they should of gave her more story with her parents and gave her the problem of dealing with her parents divorce and how she felt Monet- loved her, style wise and personality wise but i feel like she had no story i would of loved to have seen what her relationship is like with her mom that would of been interesting. luna- i love luna she is my favorite character by far. i’m glad she has a voice for herself and acts on her own plus her and max have such a cute friendship i hope they get closer in season two because they’re an iconic duo. i hope she gets more story though i wanna see what her home life is like too ! zoya- she should have been gossip girl i hate that they tried to make her this righteous do gooder sho tried to keep her sister happy despite her sisters friends treating her shitty and her sister hurting her multiple times also her being fourteen a whole freshmen dating obie and he’s a junior like it was giving when chuck bass tried to sleep with jenny at the kiss on the lips party. other than that zoya was boring imo obie- trash literally trash i have nothing to say about this boy Akeno- the only good man on the show with a good heart her reminds me a lot of nate in the earlier seasons of gossip girl. trying to keep everyone happy while trying to figure himself out. i hope he gets more story the parents- all the parents are trash the only good one is akis mom. everyone else had an annoying parental figure the teachers- why are they gossip girl ? like their reasoning for doing was so the kids could compliment their zara trench coats and tell them good morning instead of bullying them like what ?

I agree with basically everything you said. Except Max is probably my favorite character bc in the beginning he feels really superficial, like he just likes s*x and stuff but then as you found out more about him you see that he have more layers and I honestly felt so bad for him when he was going through everything with his dads and the whole Aki and Audrey thing, and that he was actually sad bc it meant something to him. But also Nick was lowkey the star of the show because he really had no reason being that funny but also doing the right thing. The only flaw he have is liking that teacher.

oh i've got something to say this reboot is awful compared to the original. i was really optimistic and was waiting for this show for over a year but the moment they started focusing on the teachers more than most of the main cast, i knew this story wasn't going to make the slightest bit of sense. all the show was just a stupid amalgamation of storylines that made no sense at all (the love triangles, the predatory teachers, all the interpersonal relationships and the disconnect between the writers and their understanding of the original gossip girl and social media) like everything happened so quick and was so unnecessary. the fact that julien feeling threatened by zoya "a nobody" and the teachers wanting the students to be better people by setting up an account that was made to bully people is actually insane. even the first episode made no sense because zoya and julien planned out this scheme to not let her into the fashion show to publicly humiliate her to reclaim the spot that zoya never stole and then spend the rest of the season bullying her because she (as a 14/15 year old) "stole" your 18 year old boyfriend and because she's a threat to your reputation? julien being an influencer really was one of the worst storylines of the show because the way they constantly went on about whether or not julien would be cancelled like anyone cares when these beauty/makeup influencers get cancelled in real life or if anything was really at stake for this 16 year old mega rich nepotism daughter. i honestly just feel like they put WAY too much into 12 episodes. i feel like the way zoya and julien carried themselves was such a drastic difference from the original, they where always trying to be "morally superior" and in the right instead of just getting the opponent. i really just feel like monet and luna PERSONALLY would've been such a better focus as the main characters instead of them being julien's minions. everything that happened in the show literally held 0 gravity because they would just deal with it in the episode and wouldn't carry it on into the next episode or would just ignore it. it's so funny how all the guys in the show where so boring and annoying apart from max and yet they got more storylines and time than luna or monet. lunet (just talking about them as duo because that's how they where treated by the show) where literally the best thing to ever happen to that show like savannah and zion are where literally stand outs from the first episode and when they where pushed to the background or ignored for episodes on end you could feel their present missing and the fact they're julien's "minions" when julien is just this complete airhead with nothing to bring to table is insane. this whole story just makes no sense and it irks me so bad because i really thought we where going to get something worthwhile but we didn't. last note but obie brought nothing to the table and he was VERY VERY VERY boring and very unpleasant to watch. last edit but there was really nothing at stake and nothing really scandalous even happened. anways monet & luna are the best and deserve the world.

I feel like in the original show there was always a distinct impression that the adults had more going on then just teenagers. The indifference of the adults help sell that the world did not revovle around these kids.

I really didn’t like any of the characters season 1A. After watching season 1B, the only characters I actually liked are Max, Luna and KINDA Zoya. Other than that all the other characters were annoying. Also, the scene with Monet’s mom is overhyped to me. Her mom may have been right in pressing her about the whole GG issue, but she definitely should have paid Kate’s fee or whatever it was. EDIT: Rewatched the scene and Kate agreed to walk and not take any transportation service. So Kate is just stupid and she kinda deserved to be dragged😂
Yeah, that fee part was ridiculous, but the other stuff she was talking about like with gg and her "victimhood" kinda seemed refreshing to me

one thing I don’t like about the show and has been bothering me is how almost every episode has big time jumps. it’s hard to actually see how events affect the characters and it feels like every episode has a whole different plot line that doesn’t connect or leads to something bigger. also the characters’ characteristics change EVERY single episode. one episode obbie is in love with julien, the next episode he’s in love with zoya, then the next episode he’s in love with julien again and then next episode he’s in love with a complete random girl … like I know there were time jumps but having that happen in the SAME 12 episode long season…. it’s weird and all over the place

Why is it that people don’t like that Julian wasn’t honest about not being ok with Zoya and Obie dating and kissing him but no one questions or bats an eye at why Zoya would even date her sister’s ex like literally days after their break up. Like both sisters are wrong 🤨😭
People forget that just because a character is a fan favorite doesn't mean that in their universe they're well received, too. Serena and Julien are hailed as it girls because they're charismatic; people gravitate towards them and actually really like them. Blair and Monet have the cleverness to get what they want like being at the top but in-universe the people around them hate them. It even got to a point where Blair's career as a designer was in danger because all the bullying and tormenting she did ended up coming back to bite her. I love them but they definitely don't have that effortless it factor the other two have.

I watched another video reviewing gossip girl 2021 and it basically explains that by giving gossip girl a face, you give her motives and reason etc which is bad,, and I totally agree! In fact og gossip girl's biggest mistake was saying it was Dan because many of the posts contradict Dan as a character and don't make sense. If we apply this theory to the current show it also makes no freaking sense. The posts make sense but TEACHERS? Doing this as if they don't have lives outside of their students is really crazy and I think that, that part is what initially set off a bunch of ppl. I also think that in gg 2021 1A that the characters actions made no sense and we didn't get why they did what they did I think that the writers automatically thought it would make sense cuz we qould sense their tropes and thought that no further work was required. They were WRONG in 1A they don't really act in their self interest and everything is resolved within the episode making it feel under developed. BUT with 1B we see topics being introduced and talked about even 2 episodes after which was refreshing I guess.
I personally believe that the Gossip Girl Reboot should have had a different set of rich teens in a different US city every season (Examples - Honolulu , Boston , Miami , Denver , Dallas/Austin , New Haven , Napa Valley , DC , Seattle , San Francisco) . It would allow them to focus on what each group cares about , their values , how they'd spend their money , what hijinks they'd get up to etc. , gives them a tighter storyline and it would also mean you'd never have to reveal who Gossip Girl is because clearly it's just a Deux Moi/Guru Gossip for rich kids instead of influencers.
I actually agree with all of them. That’s a shock. But I get what Julians last monologue meant. She’s going to send everything to gossip girl true and not true because if GG posts a lie she can be deemed not credible and could be in a lot of trouble. I get it. Not a good idea but I get it.
I always felt like It Girl JC got unwarranted hate from the moment the cast photos dropped which is… suspicious to say in the least, but what I loved most about Julien, others (mostly bandwagons) seem to hate or at least say they hate on social media bc its the popular thing to do. S1 Julien was definitely struggling with the internal/external battle of being this nice, apologetic Influencer that everyone loves bc of vs. being her true self, whom I think is less of that and more of a mean girl at heart like her workers, monet and luna. I think her speech & actions in the final episode was definitely hinting that we’re getting a “new” Julien or at least the REAL Julien Calloway in S2.

Yes In my opinion it got way better! The writing was more in depth and it wasn’t just focused on Obie/zoya/Julian love triangle. We got to see more about the lives of Luna, Monet and more of max. A lot of new things were exposed but lots of loose ends got tied up and has a good season finale episode

I thought I was the only one that did not like the SA line. I also believe that it was just thrown in the show. Last I think the only reason that they added it was because they were getting backlash for the OG GG (chuck bass) and him trying to get with jenny without her consent. So they wanted to make it right, I think. (but did not do well)

what if at the beggining Julian was the gossip girl (because shes great with social media etc.) to make her sister feel welcomed. But bc GG is only nice to Zoya everyone would get suspisious about zoya being the GG. Julian feeling guilty would resign from doing GG and in beautiful honorable way dump her phone into trash (just like serena in season 1, i love this scene). A few weeks later GG comes back but its not Julien, it's someone else who got to the phone and changed the password. Bum, the perfect cliffhanger for season one. We never find out who the next GG was. Credits.
I haven't watched this video yet, but honestly I'm only into the show for monet, max and luna.
