Chef Venkatesh Bhat stands tall as Tamil Nadu’s much-loved culinary personality with an enormous following across the globe. A hugely popular television cookery show host, KZheadr, whose channel ‘Venkatesh Bhat's Idhayam Thotta Samayal’ achieved prolific virality in a very short span of time, culinary powerhouse, entrepreneur and hospitality head honcho, he wears many hats. I know him from his time in Bengaluru over two decades ago. And so it was a pleasure to catch up with him after all these years over a memorable dinner at his vegetarian flagship restaurant, Royal Indianaa at The Accord Metropolitan in Chennai.
We spent a couple of hours eating, speaking of his journey, his mantra to success, his culinary philosophy, and lots more. Hope you find this special two-part episode as interesting as I did filming this conversation.
Stay tuned for more from Gourmet On The Road, Chennai. Take care; stay safe and strong. Happy eating!

Sir waiting for second part. It's torture.
My humble pardon for the mistake in uttering Siruvani from Thanjavur.. what I meant was Siruvani from Coimbatore and Cauvery from Thanjavur
Namma namaskaragalu 🙏
Sir I'm a huge fan. Made your tomato rice recipe yesterday, for the nth time. Much love and respect from Kerala❤
Bhattu kutty!
I like your presentation and your stories! All the best sir!
it is ok Sir ..our cauvery is as sweet as Siruvaani .. 😅
Thanks Kripal, for introducing us to this pioneer. His channel is the need of the hour for me. Its stupendous how passionately the chef speaks about the South Indian Cuisine, about his culinary journey, so much so, that Kripal's disposition got eclipsed by the Chef Venkatesh Bhat, in this episode. 😅
Bengaluru needs one such high-class buffet restaurant like Royal Indianaa for vegetarians - unfortunately most of the buffet restaurants here are all of the same pattern - grills etc. Request Venkatesh Bhat Sir to reopen his creations in Bengaluru with the same love he has given to Chennai
I will visit Bengaluru, IF Venky Bhat opens a full fledged Vegetarian restaurant that would fulfill the tasty desires of a South Indian. - Love from USA
You really deserve to have a place like Royal Indianaa. I hope you get one soon. The one in Chennai is too good.
A hard core vegetarian, Chef Bhat has the knack, to smell a non vegetarian dish, and tell, if the meat is cooked or not. Great rendezvous.
Kripalji, Thanks for this one episode, specifically , Bhatji, is a chef, with simple cooking but great taste.
Kripal sir is always energetic and stylish person to do his work perfectly
Two of the three people that kept us going during the pandemic (the other being Bharadwaj Rangan). This is the crossover that we all needed!!
It is one of the rare occasion that kripal has been outshined in an episode. Venkatesh, wish you keep rolling(ruling) in the next episode also.
Bhat sir...love you
Two legends meeting , what more one had to ask … kripal Aman sir is my favourite and Venkatesh sir my wife’s favourite … ofcourse we both adore both the legends work ….awaiting part 2 eagerly … இது மனிதர் உணர்த்து கொள்ள மனித காதல் அல்ல 😂😂😂 அதையும் தாண்டி 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This Episode is amalgamation of Stalwarts from the culinary landscape, Kripal Sir & Venkatesh Bhat. Its Very hard for one to grab attention away from Kripal Sir when he is around but have to say Venkatesh Bhat made it happen. The Show was just 🔥🔥
One of the best Chef' in Tamilnadu
Here in San Diego, USA I tune to Chef Venkatesh Bhat on weekends. My Kitchen TV is right next to my cooking range. His Masala Dosai and Masala recipe is like Deva Amrutham! Need I say more. 👏🙏
எங்கள் தல பட் சர் ❤

Have been following Venkatesh Bhatt since he started appearing in KZhead. Great lover of his recipes and trying most of his recipes even at my age of 90. Learnt a lot of simple ideas to make the food more tasty with simplified methods. Great chef, and I am proud to be his fan.
Amazing Camaraderie between Kripal and Chef Bhat. Both are my favorite personalities😍
My favourite chef and my favourite food reviewer in one single frame❤ what an abstract treat ❤
So happy to see both of you together. I love venkatesh bhata cooking and all my south Indian recipes are his. I don’t understand Tamil but am leaning some words by watching his videos.

Absolutely loved the passion with which you two were talking about the food, the nuances, the emotions. Felt like I could have listened to you two for hours.
Glad you enjoyed it! Stay tuned for part 2!
It was a very fantastic episode, waiting for the next part.
Looks like two chemistry students and two chemistry teachers in one piece. I was very glued watching from the start to the end.
Vatal kuzambu recipe from Mr.Bhat was tried earlier in my home and it got kudos from all my family members.
Good afternoon dear Kripal - Just returned home after a scrumptious weekend family lunch 👍 Now straight diving into the vlog that I was quite eager to watch . Wow you are going to dine at the Royal Indiana with your friend Chef Venkatesh Bhat 👍👍 Great memory by Chef to clearly mention that he last met you 17 years ago 👍As one of your subscribers correctly mentioned two story-tellers coming together and hence it might be a 2 part vlog . That’s been on spot 😀😀 Agree in the Marghazhi month - It is considered auspicious and is associated with various cultural and religious events in Tamil Nadu. Chef Venkatesh’s punctuality and commitment is commendable 👍 I am yet to watch any of his YT vlogs . Let me check one of these days . Seems to be an interesting concept to spread culinary knowledge and awareness. For a change you are relatively silent today 😅 The ambience of the restaurant is cool 👌. Never heard of this welcome drink Wasantani ( looks to be a simple recipe ) . Oh it’s a complete vegetarian restaurant. Great his entire family has a hoteliers background. Phew what a fabulous buffet spread including Chef Venkatesh’s specialties 👌👌 Different types of Rice dishes 😋 It’s great to get into research coz that’s quintessential for improvising the dishes that has to be offered 💯💯💯 Good observation and comment by Chef Venkatesh on the common passion and value that he shares with you . Back to the table to continue with the conversation with CV 👍 The first dish - Vazhai Thandu Paruppu Saaru🍲. Like their core value “Serve from the Heart” . Dissection of the ingredients of the Soup by two legends 💯💯💯Good story on how HSB paved its way to an arena once dominated by the Udipi chain of restaurants 👌 Good of CV to talk about the vlog with the late Puneet Kumar ( 🥲) Next items Kuzhi-Paniyaram , Vella-Paniyaram & Poondu Dosa 😋 Poo-vazhai-pottu making its way into the plate 👍👍 Glad that you relished it thoroughly 👌 Next to the Poondu Dosa ( it’s one of my favourite) . I can have it on as-is basis 😋 Oh I just saw the Paneer Soda 👍 The spiced baby potato looks super yummy 😋 Need to try this dish 👌 Thoroughly enjoyed every single minute of your conversation with Chef Venkatesh . Kudos to him for his passion , commitment , honesty and integrity 💯💯💯 What a fab combo you both make and it’s a treat to your viewers. May your friendship continue to forge and grow stronger with the passage of time . Too good chief . You could have got Boss to Chennai . Anyways I am overwhelmed by this vlog and cherished watching it . Super eager to watch the Part 2 of the vlog . You take care , stay safe , have a wonderful day ahead and God bless 😇 Loads of love & respect 🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️💯💯💯
Hi Rajesh, glad you enjoyed this episode. Chef venkatesh Bhat is a legend, and I feel rather privileged to call him a friend from two decades ago. The interesting conversation with Chef aside, the food at Royal Indianaa too, as you have rightly surmised, is the sort that impresses. I would recommend it as a must visit for vegetarians who would like to taste some great dishes and in an environment that's top class. The second episode has plenty more of the food, and I hope you enjoy the watch too. Happy Sunday. Cheers!
We'd love to see you host Chef Bhat in Blore. He's an extremely open minded personality who's not run out of recipes for 15 years; and explains the stories and context behind the food with such passion. A Chef and a storyteller par excellence! An explorer of our vast South Indian traditions and styles!
Much awaited collab!
What an amazing episode this is. ♥️👌🏻
My dearest sir’s….I’m truely blessed to see such contents sirs….kindly continue. I’d like to reiterate, this video is greatest video and has made my life meaningful sirs. Too great. My humblest request to Venky sir…..please reduce ghee in recipes or else I will die in my sleep sir…
Wowww la wow, 2 living legends sharing the screen together .... Super sir ... I am honoured watching sir. I can die peacefully now (actually I will die after making Venky's ghee filled paneer). God bless you both
Yes, two great men.
Kripal sir you usually speak well, but in this video I just loved Venkatesh Bhat
You both are awesome! Even though, I spent my college days in Madras (Chennai), I did not get to experience most of the dishes shown in the video. Will have to make a special visit to Mr. Bhat's Restaurant.
Wow...its really surprised..! I love you both..! Especially krupal bro..! Welcome to Chennai sir..! The city is hot.. but we are very cool and humble..!heavy trapic issues.. but we enjoyed..! Anyway we love Chennai..! Once again welcome sir..!
Quite a candid interview with a candid Chef Venkatesh Bhat! I've learned a lot from this great Chef! Thanks for sharing this episode, Kripal!

I should subscribe to Chef Venkatesh as his passion for cooking is so intense that when the food was brought to the table, he first tasted the potato rounds so it was made perfect for Mr. Kripal!!!!
Very happy to watch this video ❤

Awesome. Our Bhatt kutty is always the best
Hello Kripal. Sir, It was an amazing episode. The combination of Chef. Venkatesh Bhat and you were so real, organic and of course simple. I really enjoyed it. Thank you
Thank you.
@@FoodLoversTV Pleasure is mine.
My two favorite in one place
@Kripal - The interesting thing is that Mr. Bhat is related in a way to the owners of Matsya restaurant. Also, I guess the pedigree in a way comes from his roots as well ( region you’re familiar with ;)) not wanting to discount his journey and what he has gone through.
Sir really it is a treat to watch two food giants one without eating will tell about the dish taste and the other enjoying every bite and tell exactly how it is .Both of you are my favorites. Bhat Sir will talk with the dish and will treat it as a human being. Your beautiful language will make us feel as if we have eaten the same..
Thank you for your kind words, glad you enjoyed the watch.
I'm feeling proud ❤❤❤ we are Mangalorean and about puneeth sir episode ❤
I just adore venkatesh bhatt
Two legends of food passion for long ,enjoyed your conversation tasting and camaraderie
Bengaluru seriously lack something like this in vegetarian. All we have here is mostly South Indian basic restaurants or North Indian restaurants who have no idea about varieties of Karnataka or south foods. Happy to watch this interview with Mr. Bhat.
Please also interview dr chef damodharan too
Have personally tried many recipes from his channel “ Idhayam thotta samayal” , it’s a go to channel for a new recipe for me..
Omg 😍 what a episode 🥹
This man is an inspiration for the passion he has towards his profession - true meaning of professional - btw, thought food lovers was older than 4 years surely, news to me.
What an amazing personality he is ♥️🙏🏻👏🏻🌟
Hi Kripal , no doubt uhr the best n best show but venkatesh with the passion for cooking represents Tamil Nadu and everything in there is Tamil and Tamil culture. Hope he brings in more dishes from canara, karwar, north Karnataka, karntaki daccani, Davangere . Kripal u being in blore haven't heard dishes from Karnataka which have not been represented like udaka, uddu gojju, banana jamun, chakkoli and more. Here I am not doing regionalism but want to represent our state.
Passionate foodie meets Passionate chef.
a wonderful interview
Venkatesh Bhatt is a cooking superstar
Best vlog I have watched till date very interactive conversation
Glad you enjoyed it, Nandeesh.
@@FoodLoversTV Yes Sir Absolutely
Great conversation 🎉
Such a melody to hear him speaking in Kannada
Great collab!
Venkatesh Bhat please open a good restaurant in Bengaluru. Sadly it is impossible to get good South Indian food in North Bangalore..
