FILM DESCRIPTION:
As a favor to a friend, policeman Tom O'Meara (Harrison Ford) lets visiting Irishman Rory Devaney (Brad Pitt) stay with him and his family in New York City. Rory's visit is quiet at first, but when Tom and his wife, Sheila (Margaret Colin), return home one day, they're accosted by intruders. Tom soon realizes that Rory is in the Irish Republican Army. When it becomes clear that Rory's stateside trip is part of an effort to transport illegal guns to Dublin, Tom is compelled to stop him.

  • For those who may not know, the "Devil's Own" was a nickname given to the Connaught Rangers, a British army line infantry regiment that was raised in Ireland from Irish recruits, with its depot in Galway. It was formed by the amalgamation of the 88th (also Connaught Rangers, whose name it inherited) and 94th Regiment of Foot. It earned both notoriety and numerous battle honours along the way.

    • @@leoperidot482 Depends on your way of thinking really. The IRA wanted for Northern Ireland (part of the United Kingdom) to be re-incorporated into the Republic of Ireland. This resulted in attacks against police causing the British army to become involved to try and stop them resulting in practically a civil war. Some people side with the IRA since they are people who want Ireland to become fully independent whereas some people side with the British and UVF since they are proud of being Northern Irish or British and want their country to stay that way. Some even hate both sides since both parties caused so much violence over the years to numerous civilians.

    • A lawyers job is to be whats called "a devils advocate" The word Satan / Shaitan , specifically referred to an Accuser (tester or prosecutor - morphed into adversary). ------------------------------------------------- Its also a supreme court judge who arranges his stay, with a cop whose force is corrupt. ---------------------------------------------------- The title Devils Own has a double meaning. Law, does not mean justice. At the time, IRA volunteers were tried in juryless courts, without defense, called Diplock courts, leading many to study law while in jail. The cop, tries to arrest him in order to protect him from a government which intends to murder him. ------------------------------------------------ Pat Finnucane and Rosemary Nelson were two human rights lawyers who were targeted by the British Army and murdered by the UVF , not long before this film (1989 and 1997). The chief of staff of the IRA , Sean mac Bride, was a founder member of Amnesty international , The Red Cross, UNESCO, and held the rank of Assist.Secretary General of the United Nations. He was one of a group of lawyers who brought the British Government to the European Court of Justice for mass internment without trial. MacBride's work was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize (1974) as a man who "mobilised the conscience of the world in the fight against injustice". Seán MacBride - Wikipedia was an Irish lawyer who specialised in criminal defence work. Finucane came to prominence due to his successful challenge of the British government in several important human rights cases during the 1980s. He was killed by loyalist paramilitaries from the Ulster Defence Association, acting in collusion with British security services. In 2011, British Prime Minister David Cameron met with Pat Finucane's family and admitted the collusion, although no member of the British security services has yet been prosecuted.

When talking to a marine I refered to it as the LE. He said "no, no . The SA" He himself would have used the FN. He would have been shot at by the AR-18. He said whoever was shooting at him was either extremely lucky or a natural marksman, because even though the bullet was at the extreme end of its arc, so that it had lost all its velocity, it was still on target, about 2 feet in front of him. It took him several seconds to realise he was being shot at. As far as I remember, he said he leant down and picked up the round.

  • Honestly, a great film and storyline, with an amazing soundtrack, and a great cast, especially with Harrison Ford the legend, and Brad Pit who literally nailed the accent, and perspective, and in my opinion he was the star of it all. A film, with a very intense storyline to cover, and topic especially during it's time and the controversy they had while filming it, but it was done well, and the one thing I only disliked about it, was the ending, because it cuts so short, but other then that, truly amazing, especially the amount of effort put into it.

      @Elfnetdesigns@Elfnetdesigns3 жыл бұрын
    • @Rogelio Murillo Jr I mean that all depends on the quality of the AK. The AK adopted a similar principle of the Sturmgewehr, using a shortened rifle round instead of the intermediate cartridges used by NATO countries. So the bullets are fine, and if you’re using say a Soviet made, Finnish made, or Czech made AK (I know the Czechs made their own version but it’s close enough) then it’ll shoot true because they had quality manufacturers making their guns. But if you get some crappy khyber pass looking AK then yeah, it’ll blow up in your face and miss like crazy. The reason that the AK gets a bad name is because most of the people who use them know the bare minimum about using a firearm and just spray and pray with it and don’t take good care of the guns. And this is coming from someone who would rather own an AR than an AK.

I was taken to the rising Sun Pub in Northern Ireland where innocent people were gunned down by loyalists. I also was in the three Step pub where a British spy was killed. I hope that the Good Friday agreement helped the people of Northern Ireland.

    • This wasn't what combat was like in the 1990s in this movie, it was somewhat closer to the 70s and 80s but nowhere near as much one-sided typically. The GPMG would have chewed them to bits. And the gate entry charge-through would be highly unlikely. Still it's a hollywood movie and they had to sorta root for the little-guy I guess.
