  • Good looking quality pre-built keyboard from a major manufacturer, & actually kinda like that gimicky animated display as it’s something new & unique. BUT I think it’s a bit overpriced for what it is (especially compared to what you can get for the same or slightly higher priced custom keyboards).

    • For a Pre-Built Keyboard, it's impressive and possible to Mod but it feels like it's for either the lazy mech keeb user or for those who really wants to Mod an Asus. No matter what, this board will never compete against the usual custom keyboard built from scratch. It's like you said, the price is really too high for what it is. The extra feature is nice though.

      @thegreatbeavers@thegreatbeavers2 жыл бұрын
    • Meant more for the gaming industry than the custom so you can’t compare them well. Neither would I even compare gaming keebs vs customs. But yeah, it is overpriced.

      @joshki1962@joshki19622 жыл бұрын
    • @@joshki1962 That’s true, but at the same time it’s priced in the same realm as some decent custom boards that many also use for gaming, which is why you also can compare them.

  • I like the media controls on the left. Not crazy about the thick cable. I'd give up the passthrough to have a more slim (and detachable) cable. This seems good for a prebuilt from a big "we make everything" brand.

  • I personally won't use a keyboard WITHOUT the numeric keypad. I realize there are those who don't need it - fine for you. However I use it a LOT. It's good to see this keyboard. I liked the review - very thorough. I agree about the cord - would have been nice to have a removable cord. Cords wear out. My studio headphones have a replaceable cord - I've damaged the cord a couple of times. It was cheap to replace the cord. Corded items should have replaceable cords.

    @jeffreyphipps1507@jeffreyphipps15072 жыл бұрын
    • Devils advocate, it's easier to replace a non removable cord than it is to replace a surface mounted USB port that has bent off the PCB due to being dropped at a weird angle while plugged in or something like that.

      @huckleberryjam4975@huckleberryjam49752 жыл бұрын
    • @@huckleberryjam4975 No. I just don't use a desk for most of my home computing. I sit on a recliner in a media room with two 50 inch "monitors" on the wall, with a keyboard in my lap and my mousepad on a platform that I made that slides over the arm of the chair. I've also got another 'mouse' platform for the left arm that I made to accommodate a HOTAS setup when I play flight sims, and a whole 'tv tray' thing on wheels that I have a racing wheel mounted to for when I want to play racing sims. It sounds odd, but it's very comfortable, versatile for the sim games I like to play, and honestly after working all day the last thing I want to do when I come home and decide to play vidya is sit at another friggin desk. But anyway, I digress. I've never found a wireless keyboard and mouse that I've been happy with in regards to latency, probably because it's cumulative with input lag from monitors, and even 'good' input lag on a TV is at best 'okay' compared to a good gaming monitor. Combine that with wireless peripheral latency and it becomes awful. If you move your keyboard around a lot, like say taking it off your lap to set on the table next to the recliner when you get up for some reason, that puts stresses on the cord/port that don't happen when you're just leaving your keyboard sitting on a desk. I've had a couple different keyboards with detachable Micro B cables and they all ended up failing. Usually the cables. I did have a CM Masterkeys where the whole port ended up getting jacked up from the stress. The keyboard I just ordered has removable USB 3, hoping that since the connector is more robust it will be less prone to issues. It isn't ideal for my weird use case, but as you probably know, buying a keyboard when you want something more than your typical consumer fare is a matter of balancing different considerations and compromise. I'm handy with a soldering iron so if the connector fails or it eats a cable every other week I can always just hard wire it myself with a little time and solder. Anyway sorry for the novel, the point of all this is was just to say that there are odd use cases where a hard wired cable is actually preferable.

  • Wow, that’s a huge development in the keeb world. I appreciate you making a point to make the FAIR comparison with the stabs. Those stabs are very good considering it’s a big-store mass-produced board. Plus the fact that it’s hot swap, which can be rare for something in this area of the market (good luck finding hot swap at the department store). Those accessories are great, too-good to see a unique switch puller and unique wrist rest attachment style to show that they actually put their own thought into the product.

    • Just want to chime in and say if you're wanting a full-size keyboard (with numpad) there's not really a market for that in the custom world. Best bet would be finding a hotswap prebuilt like this or the GMMK full size, and customizing it with your own switches and keycaps. Otherwise, there's a decent amount of options for keyboard kits for any other size.

  • Nice review. This one is a bit much (cost and size) for me, so I continue searching for a full size keyboard that works for me. I'd love to see a 'best full size keyboard' video. Personally I love the look of the Blackwidow V3 Pro (which I own), with its nice glowy volume knob and clean frame/font/rgb, but the stabilisers are terrible, with major rattle on all large keys to compound the clicky blue switches. It also has over-bright white indicator lights for caps lock etc. The K70 seems to suffer from a fair bit of rattle too, based on your other video, so that's out. I need RGB to see my keys at night (I often work and game in a dark room), so possibly the Ducky Shine 7 would work, though it is super expensive. Currently leaning towards the Steelseries Apex 7. • Going hotswap and still keeping the co-star stabilizers is kinda weird but the keyboard itself looks really good for a prebuilt imo. TKL would be nice but i think it would sacrifice the animation thing at the corner, which is one of the most attractive things about the board imo

    • Hotswap, because its for gamers, and gaymers will extensively use their keyboard. They’re gonna need to replace the switches if they want it to last

    • @@joshki1962 i get that but my gripe is with the type of stabilizers they used. Co-star stabilizers make swapping switches so much more difficult. Cherry style stabilizers would be much easier.
