I remember going with school to alton towers when the smiler first opened. The queues were too long for me to bother but it had such a nasty reputation. People kept talking about people dying on the ride (could be rumours, never found out) but I had this image in my head of it being really scary either way. I don't know if going on the pepsi max (and nearly having a panic attack on the way up) tempered any fear I had around rollercoasters but this just looks fun now that I see it. I love fast and twisty coasters.

! No one died on this ride ! While there was a major accident on this ride no one died!! There were injuries and some of the riders in the accident had to get their legs amputated, but i reccomend watching a video called "what really happened on the smiler" to get more info about the factors that played. Since then proceedures and trainings have been improved and more safety systems have been installed on every ride at the park. It's still safe to this day as all works efficiently (i say efficient bc in the modern day, the least you'll get about Smiler is it stopping and riders likely having to be removed off the ride because of something detected in the safety systems :/ )

Nobody died but in 2015 there was a collision and left 4 passengers with Major injuries. There was a glitch in a system and an empty cart got sent out then a couple minutes later a cart of 16 people were sent out. The glitch made the mechanics break on the empty cart and it failed to complete the full loop on one of the loops. As the empty cart just sat there the cart with 16 passengers came up to the loop but hit the empty cart with force and the first 4 riders in the front row suffered injuries but no deaths.
@Ari_2472 жыл бұрын

Trust me, safety systems have dramatically improved since the accident. Said accident was also the ride operator's fault, as the safety systems were overridden even when it detected a train still on the track. Alton Towers has taken even more precautions now, to make sure the ride is completely safe for all its guests. If any rides do break down while you're on it, you'll just be stopped in a safe place along the course while the ride staff looks for the cause of the stop. This is nothing to fear though, as breakdowns naturally happen on all roller coasters, most of the time due to the ride's computers being extra precautious. Roller coasters are built for this stuff though, and as many safety precautions as possible are taken on every existing ride. If you're still somewhat afraid to ride because of safety, just remember that you're more likely to actually die on the car ride to the theme park than be injured on a roller coaster.

If you go buy the silver fast track, best quality:price ratio
It's got 2 lifthills because the momentum needed to propel the car through 14 inversions ment that having 1 lift hill alton towers would have to build beyond on the tree line which there not aloud to do, so they split the track into 2 sections with 7 inversions each
The smiler is hands down my favourite ride. The big hill at the half way line gives my adrenaline so much because you are only lying on your back and as a child I always have that thought that I’m not tall enough and I shouldn’t just be lying on my back and just be on the seat lol

No one has died on the ride, there was an accident in 2015 but that was due to human error and is very unlikely to happen ever again
@@Ari_247 there was no glitch. The winds made the first car fail the loop and then the operator manually overode the safety system later on, sending a car with passengers that had stopped down
