That was definitely fun to watch. Misha relaxed like a bus driver while pushing that old piece of steel around the ring while the passenger is close turning into a medical emergency case. Misha should get a paramedic training if he is doing that more often to people 😅

I think I speak on behalf of everyone here when I say that Misha is a weapon, he just jumped in that thing for the first time and quickly got to grips with it. Was so fun to watch. This was the first time I really understood how hard Misha really pushes these vehicles. Seeing a car that old stay at 5k+ the entire track for the most part is so impressive. Man is a true g on the ring!

Hell yeah, love the VW classics! Stock pads & old (DOT 4 or even 3) fluid overheat was predictable; and motor overheat (due to turbocharging) as well; but until that it handled itself pretty well. We must of course also realize that this is no dedicated track build.
Misha and Owen in a OG GTI, this is all kinds of awesome! And i got a good laugh out of Owen's humor and facial expressions.

absolutely epic little car! my first track car was a mk1 cabriolet, with KW, Falken, Borla, with a cam, mk2 gti engine, completely stripped, it was soooo fun! the feel of a properly set up mk1 on a track is absolutely unbeatable. the BMW driver picking NOT to pass because there was someone faster, that is responsible driving on the ring. hats off to that guy for awareness and common sense

Based on many cars that Misha driven, I think a lot of them would benefits from better radiator, better cooling fans, add oil cooler if not have one, and better brakes (brake line, caliper, pad, disc). But damn, Misha have the skill to just push a vehicle to speed that most owner never experienced before, that's just pure talent, IMO. EDIT: Also need good set of suspension & tires.
And turbocharged cars like this, upgraded intercoolers....I can only assume that drop off in power was intake heat soak.
These type of videos are the heart and soul of why I love this channel.

I drove a Mk 1 (known as Rabbit GTI in the US) in 1978. It belonged to a high school friend, and it was a lot faster than anyone expected, so we won a lot of drag races. It was about as fun to drive as any car I had driven up to that time. Easy to drive fast.

That Golf mk1 did really well indeed! Those old cars had very good feedback from tires to steering wheel. I remember driving a Passat from similar era and when it was about to lose traction, you could always tell which tire was about to slide! More modern cars can go faster around the corners thanks to better suspension but the feedback is much worse. It was quite surprising that the limiting factor was engine cooling instead of brakes or suspension!

Love the Golf mk1, my first car. Mine had a 1.8 and weber dcoe, made about 100hp when it wasn't breaking down or rusting lol. Hope Motor Addicts can bring this GTI back to Misha with upgraded steering rack and cooling and brake pads. Great vid!

Man i love MotorAddicts since i saw those guys on Jamies OG Battles, great stuf, 2 legends in a legendary car
I had a Mk1 Jetta GLI that I had a 2L turbo setup in. It was only around 200hp at the wheels but it was an absolute pleasure to scoot around in. I had big Neuspeed anti-roll bars and just a decent set of sport shocks and springs. With good tires, it was so fun.
Gotta admire the seriousness and the humbleness from Misha.
That was awesome to watch very entertaining! Please get this Golf back when they have done all the mods.

I think my fav videos are honestly when Misha drives stock or close to stock, lower powered classics. VWs, Celicas, Ladas, have we gotten a Chevy?. They are always such a hoot to watch push on the track, and the fact he passes other modern cars shows his skill on this track. Just amazing.
I had a 2.0 Audi 9a 16v in a mk1 golf, with mk2 gti disc brakes all round and still managed to fade them out with probably 150hp, another 100hp on top with this 1.8t! The stock mk1 brakes must have been utterly roasted here! Quite incredible to see the little golf holding it's own though. Great fun. Don't forget the RHD mk1 had a horrible brake linkage setup bolted to the firewall, the pedal felt like total cack, master cyl & servo was always on the left hand side.
love the mk1. Mom had a 77 I got my license in it and drove through HS. Surprised many racing that thing around and baking the tires off. A friend's dad had a 83 Callaway turbo GTI that was a missile. Also another friend with a 82 diesel that was an anti missile, was the only car iv driven that needed to be down shifted into first to make it up almost any hill and would smoke out an entire highway at 80mph. Good times! never had much luck with the vdo speedos either even in my scirocco.
Had one of those. Great chassis loads of potential..calloway turbo was a great add on.
Really enjoyed this lap, Audi TT rack with reinforced mounts and modified arms can be made to fit, Bilstein B14 shocks and adaptive top mounts, eibach ARB's and fully polybushed and AP 4pots on front with custom mounts will make a vast difference, same as my old MK2 with 194 bhp
Seeing my old MK1 go to the ring final is amazing but to see you Misha drive it, is amazing. I never had the time to take it out. Maybe when I have my m113 944 Porsche on the road I'll come and see you
