The Most Luxurious Pencil - Pentel Orenz Nero
A rare Japanese mechanical pencil called the Orenz Nero. It uses an innovative anti-breaking and auto-dispensing mechanism, and is built with a ultra premium metal design. Available in super thin 0.2mm and 0.3mm lead. Worth the $30 price tag if you're a collector in Japan.
Pentel Orenz Nero
Unfortunately it's quite hard to find outside of Japan or online for a reasonable price. I bought mine from Tokyu Hands in Japan for 3000 yen.
Pentel Orenz - Basic versions without the auto-dispensing are more readily available

"I dont write on paper anymore", But I bought 2 of this $30 pencils! LMAO Nice video :)
I never imagined that a mechanical pencil could ever blow my mind. The auto retractable mechanism is so simple.... but this mechanism (like said in the video) prevents lead breaking from pressure and also solves the tidious work of clicking every 2 minutes to get the lead out. It's a shame that its not on Amazon but i do hope i can get a chance to buy this in the future.
Ebay
I may be slightly late but I just got mine from Amazon today
Same. Got it for Highschool and I'd say it's the best pencil I've ever used.@@KhangPham-lw9fj
I hope you found yours. ... I got mine in Bangkok.
They sell it on Amazon now yay
*_Kurutoga has left the chat_*
I love my KuruToga but it keeps on pushing the lead back in when I press down
Ive used kuru toga for more than a year and its awesome. This pentel is cool tho
The kurutoga engine is really useful. I wish the pentel orenz had it :C
MisterChief53 I don’t think it’s matters much when your lead is already only .2 or .3 mm
Kurutoga costs 11$ and this 34$ this is not the same.
Didnt expect such a high quality and short video on a mechanical pencil. Nice
your editing is soo good i love the minimalistic vibee
Your explanation for your love for mechanical pencils reflected mine so well. It made me smile. I am a programmer and i dont use them as much aswell but im still so in love and fascinated with them. And i also ordered one yesterday :)
i LOVE the cinematography in this video, absolutely gorgeous
Nice video, well explained the mechanism of the pencil!
Love the content! You've gotta come out with more stuff
2:28 i see what u did there. clever
I just picked one up from eBay because of your video. The automatic part intrigued me.
Very nice choice with the low profile Havit keyboard btw. :) It's great for the price.
I will get one of those when I get back to Japan this year. Thanks for the video David.
MageThief you can buy them from jetpens
i love ur voice! so gentle and soft
´By luxurious I thought this was going to cost like $200 like one of those pens, but yeah 30 is still expensive for a pencil
Mx Jonson what are ‘those’ pens.
@@chair5728 he may be referring to high end fountain pens
Speaking of therapeutic value... This video^^
You're one-handed pencil spread at 2:27 was legendary! lol
It was a video of him collecting all the pencils then reversed in post. Quite impressive.

Okay. I have placed my order for the 0.2 variant. I will now continue to replay your excellent video until it arrives in about 2-3 weeks. #subbed
I can nerd out over mechanical pencils for a whole day. All of my graphite portrait work was done by mechanical pencils back in the day. 18x24 portraits. I know that sounds painful with a mechanical pencil but nothing else could get me the extreme detail I wanted in those drawings. I'd love to get a few of these, and I didn't even realize that .2mm was a thing. I used .5 and .3 depending on detail needs. The only thing I don't like about this is the auto dispensing feature. No way could I take a chance of scratching up the media I work on.
Your Voiceover is So Soothing 💖💯
I was curious about the caran d'ache mechanical pencils, but these seem like a decent and cheap alternative for sketching. I just hope the 0.2 still works at an angle of around 45°.
That is one big jump. I have several Caren d'Ache... both 0.7 and 2.0 ... The 0.7 are not a drafting pencil, just a regular pencil for writing... looks good in a set with the ballpoint pen. But I never use for drawing. I also have the Orenz 0.2.. but it is too small for me, sometimes I use the 0.3 for drawing, but it is still very fine and makes faint lines on paper
very cool video, if I saw this in Japan I would have picked at least 1 up for sure.
Hello David, this is a funny stretch but I just noticed that you're the very David Zhang that I had an interview with you the other week. I've been following your channel for a couple months on KZhead and the connection just dawned on me now. Small world :) Cheers, love your videos on different gear.
best video ever great editing
Ugh I love your videos 😭
Writing with pencil on paper = primitive technology Haha, I love this video.
I got one and I love it for note taking, math notation, electrical diagrams... it's actually perfect
Which lead diameter?
My 0.2mm Orenz Nero didn't work one day, and i had no idea what was wrong til I saw the thumbnail and saw that the clutch wasn't fully gripping for whatever reason. Thanks!
i've got 0.3 one. loving the design
I'm watching a video about a mechanical pencil... Also, who remembers the Papermate Titanium mechanical pencil? Those were THE COOLEST.
This pencil looks like a pencil Darth Vader will use to fill up crossword while chilling in his room.
I bought Orenz Nero yesterday! It's very useful. By the way please read Orenz Nero from the other side. Even reading from the opposite will be the same word!

Neat! Those are called palindromes.
How you clean the pencil? The lead does not come out of the pencil.:(
日本のペンが海外の方に紹介されているのは嬉しい!!
Good review. I use a mechanical pencil quite a lot. (I also use fountain pens, so 'ancient technologies'? guilty. My dream writing keyboard is a fountain pen that I can use on Tomoe River paper while it transfers everything I'm writing, spell checked, to my computer) Mechanical pencils: I use the Pentel Twist-Erase III 0.5 mm, it works well but a critical factor is it has a large and long eraser. Too often otherwise great mechanical pencils has tiny little erasers you can never find replacements for. I also use 4B lead. It's soft and very dark, but I do go through them very quickly. I would recommend that anyone switching to a mechanical pencil, start with a 2B lead. This is the first mechanical pencil to retire my Black Marado Warrior wood pencils to my shop. I did try the Pentel model one level below the one you reviewed, and 0.2 mm, the tiny erasers were the deal breaker. If you're not used to using a separate eraser it's a deal breaker. Paper. I loathe that fat blue line paper. I want my marks to be what's most notable on the page. I make my own line pattern in Illustrator, make the lines as faint as possible when they printout on the laser printer. I know most people do not have the means to make their own paper lines, grids or dots. My first thought is maybe I should just make a bunch of them and post the PDFs to one of my (unread by anyone) blogs; but I'll bet someone has already done it.
Beautiful.
2:27 is it just me or is something strange going on here? rewatch it a few times
Yeah, that's definitely reversed. Good eye! Didn't catch it on first watch
If you find a great refillable pen with the same level of care I've love to see a review
Nice review of the pen. The video would be great but the music gets in the way of the presentation.
Indeed 30 dollars for a writing utensil is pricey and I completely understand those who would wince at the idea at paying the amount for something so seemingly trivial. However, a really good pen/pencil becomes a companion for years and it just sticks with you. I spent the same amount of money on a fountain pen and it is my go to for school and any sort of writing
This came into my recommendations list now 6 months later
Excelent video!
Great video! Any pens you'd recommend?
PENCIL BOI IS BACK
Hi that’s a great video, thank you. By the way, could you confirm with me that if the whole body is full metal? Thank you.
Hey can you link all the pen pencils that have shown in the video. Thanks love your content.
holy shit, i love your content!
If this also had that rotational point like the kurotoga I’d probably go for it since I love that mechanic. But I don’t think it’s possible with the auto lead loading mechanic it has at the moment. Still a cool design.
The 0.2mm has basically the same width as a rotating 0.3mm. With the Orenz you get less wobble at the cost of fragility but that gets taken care of by the sliding sleeve.
Will need.
If anybody is wondering. That keyboard is also mechanical. It's the HAVIT LED low profile mechanical gaming keyboard.
You should review the Rotring 800 or 600 series. I love the design and feeling of the pencil.
And being made entirely out of metal, I think Rotring justifies its price far more than this.
I use a rOtring 800 exclusively. I love that I can have it in my jeans pocket and not worry about it breaking/bending the collar
I love my 800+! Originally I wanted the normal 800 but the squishy end makes it pretty drop resistant.. doesn't work that well as a stylus tho. The Pentel graphgear 1000 is another decent retractor but I hate how violent the retraction feels
@@jsedenI agree the Pental graphgear 1000 series does have a noticable click and vibration when retracting the tip. Plus the build quality isn't as professional nor unique as Rotring. Next metal mechanical pencils to look at is the Otho Prometha series and Kuretake pencils.
@@jseden About that I just ordered a pentel graphgear 1000, does the retraction feel soft, like would it randomly break? I wanna use it for the rest of my school years, unless somebody takes it but that's another problem
Where do you buy such thin lead?
Me: Buys two dozen so I'll have extras when I inevitably lose them My Wallet: Surprised Pikachu
Hahaha. I felt that when I picked up 2 Rotring Rapid Pros...
Felt same just got the pencil for my collection
Best mechanical pencil ever was the Pentel Techniclick T3, and it cost like $3 to $6. It looked great, felt great, and was amazing for drawing or writing. The side-clicker was buttery-smooth. Manual clicking is always better for things like drawing versus auto extending leads, and the side-click is much faster than a top click.
Why can’t other you tubers be like you UR VOICE IS SO CALMING I could acc sleep to it other ppl are shouting like why 😢😕
You should try the Rotring Pencil! Sturdy, well made, with a beautiful black steel body.
I bought a Rotring Tikky once. The rubber of the grip became loose within a couple of weeks. Never again. Now been using the Pentel P205 for years. Most unsexy look ever, but then again most reliable pencil I ever had.
@@stevenvanhulle7242 I've never tried the rotring tikky, but I have the rotring 600, which is an all metal body. I've dropped it, thrown it around, misplaced it a few times but it still works beautifully.
I want one in white and red.
Is there a link for the auto dispensing pencil?
This is great for drawing.
Can u make a mechanical pencil collection video
Thx u David
Still normal wooden pencil FTW brings back nostalgia......great video tho....👍
FINE KZhead, I'LL WATCH THIS
rotring and pentel were the top 2 mech pencils we bragged about owning back in the day.
Oh wow, now I want the 0.2
the name of the song in the intro and end, heard it before and cant seem to find it.
How strong is the damping mechanism of the section of the tip of the orenz nero? Is it true that it is very delicate? I read that it breaks easily. How is the texture? Does it work to avoid problems with sweaty hands?
Carlos Arzate I have a 0.2 version, used it for a year since I bought it. The clicking sound when advancing the tip was quite loud to me, and actually need to push it a bit hard to dock the tip back. But overall, satisfying. And yes, it breaks quite easily. So always be careful not to drop it. I got sweaty hands and it still works pretty nice to me. But due to the texture of the grip, which is made from nylon and metal powder, the paint layers comes off very easily. Exposing it’s dark gray color inside. Hope it helped you.
Is this pencil good for softer lead that are prone to break easily?
For a second there I thought I found an absolute steal when I saw the orenz pencil selling for $7 but it wasn't the Nero version lol.
Where can I get the eraser for the pencil as it is compatible with my Pentel P205?
The Kuru Toga is shivering in it's barrel.
I live in Tokyo and without a doubt, Japan has the best stationary in the world. You should check out the Rotring Three colour pen with mechanical pencil....I don't even have a hand and I still bought it ; )
damn, this video about pencils... was very interesting you have a thing
You could make a video about toilet paper and it'll still be interesting to watch...You and Hueguh are next level KZheadrs 🤯

Nice pencil :)
the fact that you can't extend the tip beyond the sleeve is a bit of a deal breaker for me as an artist. I end up drawing in all kinds of angles so having the sleeve catch on the page is a big drawback. Does the standard orenz have this kind of problem too?
I didn't demonstrate it. But you can use it like a normal pencil and just click to extend as well.
All my mechanical pencils are Pentel. It's the best of the best.
I like drafting pencils like the rotring 600
I recommend you the porsche design mechanical pencil p 3130 mikado. A master piece
Hello, I've had this mechanical pencil for about half a year now and the auto lead feeding feature has stopped working, has anyone else experienced this issue and is willing to provide some help?
If you extend the lead too much, can you push it back on??????
03:05 Could you please share the brand and model of your collections?
How to Fix a Jammed lead in this pencil? The lead does not come out of the pencil. Help.
did u find a solution? :(
Which is the 0.5 mchanicl pencil that Davi show aside the orenz??? anybody knows?? please let me know!!
30 dollars for a pencil, I'll take 2!
i need one now
U can order it from amazon japan
Do all orenz pencils have auto extending lead or is it only the orenz nero?
Only the Orenz Nero has the auto extending mechanism. The others only have the lead guard so it won't break so you still have to push the top to extend out more lead.
@@gustavocano7411 ok thank you
