    @rdphoto2@rdphoto25 ай бұрын
    • The 500 PF is such an awesome lens - keep it. I have an old old OLD Nikkor 300mm F2.8 that is all glass and you can feel the glass torque when it focuses but it it fast and so so sharp. That is one I will not pass on so understand I keep it with my old D800. I know you had trouble with the Sony menu - I did too LOL. If you ever get a chance, I might suggest you RENT a Canon R7 and the RF 100-500. The Canon menu is simple like Nikon. I might also suggest that you rent a Z8 or Z9 with an adapter, and a 1.4 tele and throw your 500 PF on there. You will be super impressed with all they can do and it would allow you to stick to Nikon. When I had my Z9, it was before the newest firmware update and I was disjointed in how the eye AF and AF in general was performing compared to my Canon stuff. I sold the Z9, the 500 PF with extender, and my 200-500 so that I cold my my Canon 600mm F4 - perfect for me. Comparing the capability of the D500 and Z6 I think you said you have, to the Z8 or 9.... it will be impressive. Enjoy your 500 PF - that is one lens I wish I still had and would use it on my D800! 🙏🤗💖

No tele just the lens on the bodies - same light, same place so that I can see what both lenses back to back - I direct comparison. I keep the 200-500 at 500mm about 99% of the time and the PF is lighter but more expensive. I am really happy with the images I get with the 200-500 so it will come down to cost and weight. 🙏❤🤗

    @davidguedj4489@davidguedj44894 ай бұрын
    • Hi there!! The 800 PF is a lens I REALLY wanted to try but when I had my Z9, is was continually out of stock so I was unable to shot that. I did use the 1.4 tele with the 500 giving me 700mm of reach at F8 and it was AWESOME. And since I can not speak to any other lenses, I will give you my Canon experience with long lenses. I crop my stuff all the time and most do - it is perfectly fine and don't let anyone tell you anything different - it is your art so present it as you see it. 800mm is my favorite focal distance when shooting wildlife on a full frame and I really wanted to play with that lens. I am sure the 800 PF as a native Z glass lens is stunning, but the 500 PF is a pretty awesome lens as well. And as far as a high F8 or above, dont worry about it or how it might push the ISO. That is an old way of thinking - the new gear is simply stunning. I think the Z9, and probably the Z8 handles high ISO -1000-12800 etc better than my R5 but with the tools we have at our fingers and how amazing the bodies and glass are - not a worry. Yes if you can fill you frame, you do have more detail to play with, but dont worry about cropping. I talk about that in my videos all the time. If you have a 1.4 to put on your 500 PF do it. And if you have access to it, you can always rent lenses as well to see how something works for you without dropping the cash. I hope I have answered your question - I should do a class on that. 🙏🤗💖

    • Yeah, the old school way of thinking on so many levels is not the same with the new mirror less bodies especially when shooting longer lenses or focal lengths. When Canon came out with the inexpensive 800 F11, I poopooed it for a long time with my old school thinking. Then, I rented it thinking I would hate it. For what it it is, I fell in love with it. You do push the ISO but the new bodies handle that just fine too and we have tools at our fingertips to make it perfect. In the past, I would almost never let my ISO go above 400 - 800 is I really really had to. But I dont eve worry about it any more. I talk about that a lot in my videos and the old school way of thinking. Same goes with teleconverters or extenders as Canon calls them. The background compression with the new bodies and long lenses is just amazing!!! 🙏🤗💖

    • I thank you!!! What I am finding is that at a longer focal length, I am getting great separation even at higher aperture. I have had several people leave comments that I should try the Canon 800mm F11 - I was reluctant because it is F11 and not what I considered a real lens. But man..... I was so wrong. I have been impressed with that and the separation has been awesome - not the same as an 800 F5.6 or even an F8 but still impressive. I really wish I could have shot the Nikon 800 PF or the 600 F4 with the built in 1.4 tele but they have not been available. So...... I am going to eventually get the Canon RF 800mm that is a 5.6. When I rented the EF version, it blew me away!!! That was a comment on one of my videos - I usually just let those go, but that one stuck in my head for a while so I made a point of it in the video. Again, thank you!!! 🙏💖🤗

    @scottscrufari@scottscrufari6 ай бұрын
    • In the old DSLR days, I would have agreed with you, but with the mirrorless bodies and for the way I shoot, I don't think it is noticeable at all with the 1.4 even shooting at F8. And then too, the lighting plays a part in it as well..... and editing. Some of the older beliefs have to be readdressed and I still find myself falling into that. For example, I was afraid to shoot Canon's 800 F11 because it IS F11, but I was blown away. The limitation is the long minimum focal distance (like shooting an older DLSR prime), and the focus are that is just like shooting a DSLR. Knowing that, I worked within those limits and was impressed with how sharp it is. I noticed no drop in sharpness of loss of focus speed with the latest Nikon 1.4 extender and I thought the each of the images had the amazing signature Nikon color depth - still one of my favorites. The only thing that did stand out to me is the Nikon focus not being as precise or sticky as it is with Canon with or without a tele. I was happy with the images I captured and I thank you for letting me share! 🙏🤗💖

    • Tough call and everyone takes sides as to which is better - including Sony shooters. In truth, all the new mirrorless cameras offer something amazing. If you are going mostly wildlife, I would recommend the Sony A6700 or a Canon R7 - both crop sensor bodies that offer a lot of reach and tech for not that much money. Then you need a long lens. Sony has the 200-600 that has been out for while and is a fantastic lens when paired with the A6700 - kzhead.info/sun/qMpyoZynoWlmeXA/bejne.html Canon has some fantastic lenses as well such as the 100-500 (one of my favorites but it is not cheap) and the RF 100-400 that is inexpensive if you are just starting out and will give you great results. Nikon bodies and glass are expensive. They do produce some great results but they dont have a crop sensor camera that competes with Canon or Sony. Full frame Nikon Z8 or Canon R5. For me, I prefer Canon even though I was a life long Nikon shooter until the R5 came out. Nikon Z glass is hard to come by but the some of the older F mount glass works OK. With Canon, ALL of their older EF glass works perfectly when adapted to the new bodies. Super inexpensive and lightweight if you are just starting out - Canon R7 and RF 100-400, but the choice is yours. Experience makes a difference too so get out there and have fun!!! 🙏🤗💖

I put a deposit down (refundable) at two diff stores in my town, hopingit doesn't take too long to get one :) Yes I'm willing to sacrific a little sharpness and focus speed for the huge benefit of having a zoom. I will admit though that the reason I originally sold my 200-500 was that it was too slow to focus on birds taking off from a perch, and got the 500PF which was great and i did love that lens. Havign shot a few airshows now without a zoom lens made me painfully aware how useful a zoom can be in sports/wildlife/action. Using TCs in the field (put on, take off, etc) is a pain.

You’re right though, even if I bought the 200-500 I’d live at the 500mm mark. $3k difference in price between the 2 lenses here in Oz. Thanks as always for sharing those stunning shots John 👍🙏

    • Adrian my friend - as I just left on your video - the clarity difference is so slight and it could have been the light, my settings, me..... Price and weight ..... I am still looking for the same 1.4 tele that I was using - I had it in my cart, but it was bought before I hit the pay button!! And yeah, that comment made me laugh. My images are not the best in the world but I would say that are a little better than average!!! 🙏🤗❤

    • Oh no.... without seeing your photos, I would say if you like them - they are awesome. It is artwork and we all present it as we like. To those that critique in anonymity, I simply say thank you for watching. What I really love about photography is the personal way we present our treasures. It was just a comment that got to me!! 🙏🤗❤

  • Did he say Z(Zed)9? Dear sir, you hail from America and therefore should resort to your regional and vernacular pronunciation of the Z(Zee)9.

  • "I was told my photos are average at best! "? No doubt written by someone who has never taken a decent image in his life. Simply mastering the the latest camera technology and producing the images you do is an achievement and talent. Armchair critics eh?

    • They are all over, all the time. I just say thank you for watching as I really do appreciate them at least watching. Like anything, it takes practice and understanding to be good at anything. It kills me to see folks out there with the latest and greatest without knowing how to use it and having it in auto. Ah well. Thank you, thank you thank you for letting me share. 🙏❤🤗

  • Ya... just so average and blahhh. j/k The are WONDERFUL photos and anyone should be proud to have a metal print copy of any of the ones you posted. There are so many "experts" in the world. "Ex as in has been, (s)pert, as in high pressured drip." LOL Just keep clicking that shutter and don't let anyone deter you.
