On episode #005 of Tackle Guru’s The Fishing Gurus Podcast is Mike Williams. Mikey is one of the most versatile, consistent and all-rounded anglers in today’s match fishing scene. He has represented the Welsh international team at a junior level and has even fished for some of the UK’s most prestigious teams, including Thatchers and Daiwa Dorking.
Furthermore, his tenacious approach and admirable attitude to his angling has seen him tackle a wide array of venues up and down the country. Consequently, he has qualified for an impressive selection of notable finals including, three Parkdean Resorts Master finals, three Golden Reel finals and even a Maver Match This final.
On this episode of the Podcast, Mike and Matt sit down and talk about everything from fly fishing in Iceland to his early angling days with the Welsh international team. They also discussed the highs and lows of Mike’s time as a rugby player, and how he overcame many personal battles to get to where he is today.

  • I’ve listened to a lot of the Guru podcasts and Matt is one of the best interviewers I have ever heard. I know it’s ‘only fishing’ but the depths he gets out of people and the amount of time he asks the right question at the right time is crazy.

  • I was sat on a peg in a moorlands farm fish o , mikey was to the left and ben hagg to the right, but opposite each other. I spent 5 hours laughing to myself while they not only caught fish but ripped into each other constantly, tears were running down my face. Still one of the funniest days fishing i have had,and i never even spoke to them.

  • Mikey you are an absolute star. I had a few belly laughs throughout that podcast. I know that there's probably a huge number of anglers out there who've been mystified by your shouts going off between you & Mad Danny on a match or two. A great interview & I loved you using a number of Wenglish phrases which totally confused Matty.....hobbling, potching, etc. Brilliant. Hope to see you & Danny out on the bank in your sliders soon butt. Cheers.

  • It's mega difficult to win a major final when your limited to 1 or 2 days a week when you look at who has won their on the bank 5/6 days a week so your always going to be up against it ..is winning a major the beall in match fishing NO its not and it should never be that case .

  • Admire his honesty but not a great role model for Guru to broadcast, and undermines the Guru academy and those young people that will probably be watching. Alcohol poisoning, fighting, steroid abuse, theft. If he'd portrayed this behaviour as mis-spent youth and made it clear that it wasn't big or clever it could be positive, but it's almost boastful.

    • Just watched the second half. Warmed to him at the end. Fair play. Just shows how fishing can calm everyone down 😀

    • I feel this is Harsh, everyone makes mistakes and none of us are perfect I loved his honesty and appreciate the realness of the podcast format. Having met Mikey at whiteacres and other venues around the Midlands I can tell you Mikey is a good guy great fun loves the crack and for me I think its great to see him doing well.

  • First half of this is pretty tiresome. Not much fishing talk and lots of cliched welsh/drinking/rugby/weight lifting stories.

    • Spot on. I ain't even got a clue who he is, I have no interest in commercial anglers, I'm interested in river and canal fishing and the legends who fish them

  • If you think the early part of this podcast is suitable for broadcast, then you AND Korda need to have a serious rethink. This crossed the line of a bit of banter and has no place in a fishing show.

    • @@Tony-ih8gw it was a bit irresponsible for a major company like guru that has a lot of young fans to appear to be condoning and almost endorsing the use of anabolic steroids by one of their sponsored anglers

      @terrywilliamson974@terrywilliamson9743 жыл бұрын
    • @@terrywilliamson974 thing is terry the podcast is about his life and if anything it would put me off taking steroids and also it’s not illegal to take them I really enjoyed listening to him

      @Tony-ih8gw@Tony-ih8gw3 жыл бұрын
    • @@Tony-ih8gw actually your incorrect anabolic steroids are controlled as class c substances under the misuse of drugs act 1971 although there’s no possession offence the fact that at the end of the podcast he then gave some to Matt is actually illegal and counts as dealing which is punishable by up to 14 years imprisonment so I’m surprised the Korda legal department didn’t pick up on that
