As someone who utterly hates monotony, I can understand this completely. I would do stuff like this all the time just to stave off boredom. Many people wouldn't understand, but I don't do it for them. You also get the added benefit of better hand eye coordination, and some self confidence boost, when you are doing tricks all the time for your own entertainment.

In Asia, Big Garbage bins are actually separated: Biodegradable and nonBiodegradable. So I think she chose the right bin.
They have different colours to understand Which One Is Biodegradable and Which one isn't ! But wait , Both of them Are Blue !
The open one is for dry garbage, it's kept open because even if it's open there won't be any smell coming out from the bin. And the closed one is for Wet garbage.

The two bins are for different purposes, the covered is for food residues (wet waste), the uncovered is for general non recyclable wastes (dry waste).
That was my thoughts. We have 4 here. General waste, recycling, garden clippings & glass (which is a new one)

As someone who utterly hates monotony, I can understand this completely. I would do stuff like this all the time just to stave off boredom. Many people wouldn't understand, but I don't do it for them.
