There was a time when people didn't get their feelings hurt by someone else's opinion. You could just accept an individual no matter what they thought. In fact we celebrated our differences!! It made life interesting. Today everyone wants to be offended. Its annoying as hell.

    • They could not have given Dave the tonight show. He had a younger audience with his own show in New York. And if they gave him the tonight show, they would risk losing that audience with a newer host. Even back then when this was happening. I was even telling people that day was not going to get the tonight show after Carson left. This way, they still had David Letterman. Unknown quantity and j was running on Johnny steam for a while.

    • @@felinefinetessaslegacy2878 But Dave did end up proving he could be successful in that time slot with the audience Johnny had. The audience in the clip loving him is one citation and the other is the success he had at CBS. If Dave had the Tonight Show he wouldn’t have had strong competition and would have been solid. :-)

Every night after dinner my relatives switched on the TV and I saw Carson show for the first time and was immediately hooked. I watched every night during my stay. He had a magnetic charisma like nobody else. Letterman comes in as no 2 and Leno at 3. Conan and Kimmel are good but not in the same league as these 3 above. You are lucky that Corden has left. Seinfelt is too rich otherwise he would be good!

    • How is Eastman a "father figure" for America? He has at least 8 known children, that he was legally forced to admit. He cheated on his wives...and families. He threatened and ruined the career of actress Sandra Locke, once their 14 year relationship ended....he had her blackballed in Hollywood. The entire time he was married to Dina Ruiz, he was having an affair with a jazz/lounge singer. He knowingly discriminated against the disabled community, when he renovated his Mission Ranch, and legally attacked a woman in a wheelchair, when she filed a legitimate complaint. His claim to fame as the Mayor of Carmel, was that people could eat ice cream...(long story). Eastwood is just an SOB.

He kissed Carsons butt and the rest is history. Lettermans daytime show was funny. His late night stuff wasn't his, it was the writers if it was funny. Dave got his popularity by being rude and obnoxious to guests and making people uncomfortable. This made it different than all those before him and his younger audience thought it was funny. He became everything he claimed to hate an entertainment industry hack. Watch king of comedy thats what Daves dead end job world was. He had no talent so thats where he ended up.
