With World War II rapidly approaching, there was a call for the Volksdeutsche, - people of German heritage outside the Reich to return home to the Fatherland and help defend it.

    • @@jurjitsingh3728 Historically, the Founding Fathers who founded the 13 Colonies were all Anglo-Americans and most of them were apart of the Anglican-Episcopal Church of the USA, so they spoke English. America is influenced by the British Empire and with some Celts from the Scots, Welsh, and Irish. They spoke with English accents just like the English did. They started to invent American English in the early 1800s, or maybe after the War of 1812 to become different from the English.

  • Quite happy my family didn’t turn out like this.. my Great Grandpa was pretty much ethnic German minus the fact he was born in America, his parents were both fully German.. in ‘41 he joined the U.S. Army to join the infantry, but during boot-camp he was hurt because another trainee had fallen on top of him. He spent a few weeks in the hospital and recovering due to him tearing something.. once he returned they had to cut him because the unit was full with 32 men.. and he was one of the 5 cut off because of his weeks in hospital and his last name started with Z.. so he joined the Army Air Corps.. he flew in the European Theatre of the war, and returned home safely where he had my Nana in the late 50’s.. RIP Grandpa.

    • Friendship between former Enemies, especially Americans and Germans was very common after WW2. I know that out of first hand experience as a German who grew up with a whole Family of WW2 Veterans from the Waffen-SS (not Allgemeine SS) to the Wehrmacht, Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe. I grew up in a Town with a US Military Base and my Relatives often had their former American "Enemies" over for BBQ in the Summer. Those were usually American WW2 Vets who decided to stay in Germany after being stationed here. Often moving their Wives (and in some cases also Kids) over here. To this day one of my Grandfathers who was a Wehrmacht and later Waffen-SS Soldier and fought Americans in the Battle of the Bulge (Ardennenoffensive) is alive, he turned 100 on the 2nd September. Only one of those former American "Enemies" and now Friends is still alive at 98. They don't meet much anymore for obvious Reasons, but they're still Friends

  • My grandfather got a letter to go back to Germany to fight for the Fatherland. He ended up being a radio operator for the Marine Corps. He was born in Germany too. When it came to invade Italy they sent him home because he was a full blooded German and the Army didn't want to cause an incident (someone thinking he's a spy, him defecting to the other side, etc) so they sent him home.

But likewise, Catholic Irish, the Polish, and the Chinese were treated very badly prior to WW1. In fact, the German Immigrates had it fair more easyer time, immigrating to America, since most were protestant, and had a working culture. It was only during the first World War, that Germans were treated badly of the first time. Plus, many did fear that German Americans would riot, and revolt against America for going to war against Germany. I can't blame them if they wanted to defend there ancastral land from, the Soviets. But America was there adopted Country, and they fought against there fellow country man. If that's not traitorous, then I don't know what is.

I was told that Japanese Americans returned to Japan with their parents and end up fighting for Japan against the US. The stories were told by WWII soldiers or people whose brothers fought against the US. The world history is filled with similar stories and any war is a disaster for all.

  • One of my elderly friends (passed away several years ago) was a forward artillery observer under Patton's army. He was apparently really good at snatching prisoners, and often got that job. He told me one time he grabbed a German soldier around the time of the Bulge......got him back to their rear area and started talking to him.....turns out he was from Wisconsin, about an hour or two from our town here in NE Iowa. Same deal as mentioned here- the parents packed up and moved to Germany in 39'. He spoke perfect english, graduated from high school in Wisconsin, and moved with the family. After the war and spending time in an American POW camp, the guy from Wisconsin moved back here and he and my old friend became lifelong friends. My older friend met a german girl at the end of the war and he brought her home after they did their hitch occupying Germany after the war. Super neat people, got to meet them all at the VFW as a kid going to meetings with my dad.

  • I grew up in Wisconsin and my family has lived there ever since 1853. (Although they arrived in the US in 1840). I had heard of some of the anti-German sentiment during WW1, but I think because Wisconsin was out of the mainstream nothing affected the German Americans there. My mom was born in 1934 and went to a Lutheran elementary school where everything was taught in German, except the English class. She wasn't required to learn English until she went to high school...in 1948. The US even kept German POWs in Wisconsin and assigned them to work on the farms there. My mom remembered speaking with them. (They were very happy to be out of the war and living in place that was almost exactly like Germany. It would have been crazy to think of escaping and leave such a wonderful place). One them actually stayed and married my mom's aunt. I remember clearly my great uncle and his thick German accent. On my father's side, my grandfather was the first to learn to speak English. His older brother, however, did not and only spoke German. My local church was still doing services in German once a month until the 1980s. (I studied German in high school and so I attended the services to practice my German). I think also that because many of the people had immigrated to the US generations ago no one had an affinity for Germany anymore. Also, everyone hated Hitler because even though they spoke German they were Americans deep down. People should remember this as anti-Asian sentiment now seems to be sweeping across America, again.

    @rabbit251@rabbit251 Жыл бұрын
    • The anti-Asian sentiment, according to the DOJ/FBI is by violent crime, "almost all" (their words) by a certain demographic group. Anti-Asian sentiment due to covid is a myth. The left seeks to divide us.

    • Yeah, what a great thing that we live in a beautiful, diverse homosexual trans racial society we have today it’s so beautiful that we have all these beautiful state governments and differing laws on everything it’s so beautiful that white people will probably soon go extinct and it’s a beautiful thing that even gender is being questioned to exist. You might think none of these things have anything to do with anything but they do.
