#mvdp
He’s like a prime Sagan, only better, and even more entertaining. That second stage in ‘21 tdf was legendary, winning the bonus seconds twice on the circuit and still enough in the tank to win the stage and get into yellow for his late grandpa. It was magical.
Might be the one time i’ve got emotional after watching sport at home. What a story
Sagan, three times WC. Several times green jersey at TdF. And his classic sieges. Okay!
MvdP isn't a better roadie than Sagan was, but he's a better overall bike racer. Sagan was #1 in points (road) for a number of years. It's easy to forget that now that he's pretty much invisible.
pointless comparison. Sagan was Sagan and van der Poel is van der Poel, both legends of the sport
sagan is a sprinter while mvdp is sort of all arounder. IMO mvdp is more exciting to watch, sagan is fun to watch. different in their own way. but mvdp for me is more dominant and explosive because he usually attack uphill and drop GC riders.
My all-time favorite cyclist! ❤ Thanks for the career retrospective 👍🏽
Best ever on a bike.
And in between all that he won over a 100 cyclo cross races, is unbeaten in mountainbike short track races and was probably the best mountainbiker of 2019. Unfortunately he didn't ride the MTB World Championship that year because it conflicted with the mentioned Road World Championship in Harrogate. He has also had some streaks where f.e. he would win his first cyclo cross race of the season, then switch to the road and win his first race, then switch to mountainbike and win the first race, back to the road to win the first race again, to finish it off with cyclo cross and winning the first race.
Yes. Would love to see a video showing more of his Triple threat action. His mtb races are fantastic to watch and his CX duels with Wout and Tom are always epic!
@@joshirwin1 absolutely, cross streamed in from across the pond during the winter is a beautiful thing.
The double Mur de Bretagne TdF win is something I'll never forget. The commentators didn't know what was going on, only after the first time up they realized VdP needed the bonus seconds of the first climb for a potential yellow, but only if he won the stage, going up again. Which he did. Crazy stuff.
Rise? Come on! This guy was born into cycling royalty! Are you kidding? 😂
Hahahaha very true hahahha
Unbelievable rider and an unforgettable one too! ALOT of results there in 15 minutes!! Plus he’s earned a lot of wins by himself….. and not dropped off at the line like some winners 🤔
He has the talent of his father and the hunger and tenacity of hia grandfather
Very nice recap of his career! Been following him since the beginning in cylcocross. He never disappoint. A pleasure to watch him.
Who would have expected that. Out of nowhere… I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that we'll be hearing a lot more from this young man.
What I loved about the occasion on Sunday, was that every kind of person was there,...young and old , rich an poor, men and women, families with little children..all having a great day! no negativity What an event!
Thank you for this great video Scott I thought I knew a lot about MVDP?! NOPE!!I learned a lot today watching this video!😂😂😂😂😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
He's a superman...
kryptonite will decide that
wow great summary of his career so far 👍 In theory he can be 3 times World Champion in 3 disciplines in one single year if he wins the MTB race this Saturday but this is a long shot because he didn't do much training on a mountain bike this year.
Luckily the MTB championship is before the road WC next year, so if he wins the CX again he can still hold all three jerseys at the same time if he doesn't win on saturday
His watt spikes after super long races are absolutely incredible. Popping off monsters Wout van Aert and Mads Petersen in Worlds was jaw dropping. He has to be careful with his back issues so that he can continue entertaining us....
Unfortunately there's the risk of this video not ageing well if he becomes TRIPLE world champion this week =p
on what day is it this week?
Friday i believe

Mathieu van der poel 💪
Man just torches competition. The look back he always does as well thats mean af 😂
Fantastic video. Chapeau.... Compliments.... Really great.... Thanks!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
One correction; he is not the first rider who managed to become world champion in both CX and Road during the same year. However, he is the first male rider to do that. We have seen it before with Marianne Vos.
Or Pauline Ferrand Prevot who was the holder of the CX, MTB and RR world title in 2014/15.
@@davidcanal4692 Yeah she did all 3. Vos only did 2, just like MVDP currently holds. That's why I mentioned Vos instead of Prevot.
MVP...the true Ironman "tri"Athlete of elite cycling.
Great video, you can add his mountbike wins also. He truly already a legend🔥🔥🔥
Hero status 💪
The best
Nou op de Trasury u❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Excellent!
Glad you liked it!
Aided by his perfectly smooth, aerodynamic face, this rider has the most watts and the fewest whiskers.
I always wonder which one the dutch people fancy more MVP or Max Verstappen!!! Two fantastic sportsmen!
Max is more populair due to the status of F1 but for me as a dutchie they are both winners!
MVP ofcourse
They are both legends in their prime.
Both are born in Belgium 😂
They have one thing in common. A dutch father and a french/belgian mother. 😉
You cannot see this seperately from cyclocross, esp if people like WVA etc also come from there. Riding cyclocross at young age seems great for development, as both MVDP and WVA and others are suddenly very strong all round
Your initial praise of MVDP was reminiscent of the praise heaped upon a victorious Roman general
Ps Scott that does mean you have taken a world champion’s KOM aka your video!😂😂😂😂😂😂 well done to you!👍
Yes I did hahahahah
If he can keep the rubber side down he's gotta be a top pick for the MTB rainbow stripes. A 3 peat of 🌈 would be historic - for a man! Pauline has already done it!
I think they deliberately disturbed the sleep of Mathieu van der Poel in 2022 in Wollongong. So Michael Matthews would make a chance to win the road race. These children who kept him awake were put on to it.
Inside job, nice conspiracy theory. Wouldn't be surprised 😂
lol
yes
Unbelievable only for those who did not know him before his arrival in road cycling...

Is Mathieu still racing in the MTB World championship this week?
yup
He wants to qualify for the olympics
Not bad, not bad at all.
😅🤣 ' Col de VAM' sounds really cool for what basicallly is a dump heap !! 😅
😂😂😂😂😂
on Saturday also MTB world champion hopefully
He is not going in there with that intention, he is in there to qualify for the Olympics and is aiming for 10-15 th place.
in his prime indeed
in an honest opinion we can put today's era (post 1980's onwards) tour riding equal to lab rat engineering. But if we are talking about an overall race. Just a race. Mano-o-mano; MVDP is king.
And... he's likely a contender for MTB world title, too?
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
He and WVA are the two main reasons Sagan is retiring and gave up training earlier in his career than expected. All due respect to Sagan but I am sure he is not as hungry as these two anymore.
can he win the 5 monuments and world/ europe/ and olypic - title ..... yes
He is like 6'4" right?
1,84 meter, 74 kg
1,84 meter. 74 kg Mathieu great Champion du Monde
