150:1 reduction ratio - DIY Gearbox - 5 Stage Spur gears!

In thi project, I made a DIY gearbox! I used 6 spur gear and made 5 stage gearbox. It has 150:1 reduciton ratio. You can use it where you need a Torque. Also used 3V dc motor. I hope this video would useful for you.

  • If you connect a small wheel gear instead of large wheel gear on the fan, it would work.

  • We did something similar in a class in high school where we used a small motor with an output of like 1.6 foot pounds I think It was to make a tractor pull and the previous record was 50 pounds. Needless to say with some metal gears that could handle a little torque my team managed to pull 325 pounds and actually cut grooves into tile with the steel wheels

  • Now, imagine THIS with a 1000 gears!! You would now have to rotate the very first gear a 10¹⁰⁰⁰ times to make the last wheel to rotate once!!

    • Thank you for interest:) Actually just calculations of gear ratio. First i calculated gear ratio using i=z_2/z_1 (i: gear ratio, z: number of tooth). Then i multiplied gear ratios of each stages.

    • Yes it turns but the torque will very low and it stops just little touch. You should use more powerful motor for that
