  • This really seems like a Victorian-era Existentiall novel, where you work all your life to achieve the goal of financial freedom, and once you reach it you are old and near death. The final staircase might as well have continued onto the staircase to heaven. True happiness comes from the holes dug along the way friends.

    • You can customize the length and angles of staircases in Sims 4. Sims 2 didn’t have spiral staircases in the base game either. Every version of Sims sucks when it first comes out. 4 years ago, I was a total hater of TS4. I thought everyone who was excited for it and jumping on the bandwagon was a chump. “Why can’t they just keep updating Sims 3? This is a total ripoff!” But now, especially since Cottage Living, I actually think TS4 is pretty good. I’m still not a fan of the art style, but in terms of gameplay, there will always be pros and cons to each version, but in some ways I think 4 is better than 2 or 3. NOW, everybody is complaining about it. Now that it’s been fixed and even I, pitchfork holder that I am, have come around. Everybody is just wrong all the time!

    • Agreed. Sims 2 is the only real successor of the original Sims. It has captured the charm and quirkiness that the Sims 1 had, and made improvements upon it. Sims 3 and Sims 4 are just simply games who share the same franchise title. Their design has gone in a different direction. Not that different is necessarily bad, though... just that it doesn't feel the same as the original Sims anymore.

    • Sims 3 is obviously better because of customization, open world and quests, also the wishes are harder to accomplish and less repetitive like in Sims 2 and the needs make more sense, like for example if your sim is in total darkness it will have a bad effect on their mood, same as staying home for too long, it's not just bars to fill in

  • It’s nice to hear more people appreciating The Sims 2 as the best of the series. I recently saw a statistic that it was the lowest-selling game of the entire franchise and it boggles my mind. It was so much better than Sims 1, and Sims 3 only improved by taking out loading screens (while everything else, including how it ran, was worse). I couldn’t believe it! It’s definitely the best game and probably my favourite game ever - I still play it over the others to this day.

    @HerHollyness@HerHollyness2 жыл бұрын
    • When it came out, it ran poorly on my computer, had long load times into the neighbourhood which were apparently never fixed, and the addition of ageing put off many kids who just wanted to enjoy the game without existential dread. While you could turn that off, it seemed like it wasn't the intended mode of play. But it definitely added way more to do than the first game, which was pretty much all grinding for money in the end.

      @Holgast@Holgast2 жыл бұрын
    • I think Sims 3 was pretty hyped-up. Many of my peers were sharing one copy of Sims 2 because parents and stuff, but with Sims 3 coming out, they were also old enough to purchase Sims 3 with their pocket money. Not like it is the main reason or a reason at all, but it's interesting to think about I think. I also think that a lot of the people who are die-hard Sims 2 fans now were born too late to buy Sims 2, which is even more interesting. Also according to wikipedia, not sure where you saw your statistics, the sales numbers differ only by 1 million, which... isn't a lot? And the Sims 4 numbers are probably inflated because a lot of people tried it when it had a free period, which imho shouldn't count (although that would still make Sims 2 the lowest one). Also, a bit of my own opinion, Sims 2 is amazing when you have a lot or all of the DLCs. But having just the base game is kinda meh. Sims 3 is more engaging base game-only.

      @Pavlinka__@Pavlinka__ Жыл бұрын
    • Lowest selling game of the entire franchise? Really? It's a game that came out in 2004, an era where gaming wasn't as widespread then compared to now where everyone could afford one computer at home at the very least. Looking at the Sims 2's sales figures, it was a smashing success for a game that came out when gaming was seen as a childish hobby that older people looked down on. By that metric, The Sims 2 was a massive success for the era it came in. Still has loyal fans who grew up with the entry up to this day even so very few games could say the same. The Sims 4 is lucky to have come out in 2014 where more people have access to computers. That alone might've saved it from being a massive failure like SimCity 2013 did. However it's also by far the most controversial installment to the franchise. The only ardent defenders of Sims 4 are what? Teenage girls and children. Granted I was a teenager myself when it came out being 16 in 2014, but I was already old enough to see past EA's slimy money grubbing tactics with the constant streams of DLC after DLC coming out in my late teens. It couldn't hold my attention then as its intended age demographic, it still fails to uphold my attention now approaching my mid 20s. I prefer to pirate it in its entirety since I'm not spending a single dime on the travesty known as the Sims 4. It doesn't deserve my money.

Immediately after watching this video, I went and started up Sims 2 (I'd missed it so much so this was a good enough reason to get me play it again!). I took me 4 real life hours to complete the challenge and after that, Brad Pit got married to Angelina Jolie and as of now they have 4 children (2 of their own, 2 adopted) and the only reason is that Angelina wishes to marry off 6 of her kids lol

  • Recently got the sims 2 working on my pc and had to watch this classic again. I’m not sure how I managed to forget but man this game was so involved. Like, there’s so much actual gameplay that goes into everything. In sims 3 and 4 if you write a novel you just choose a genre and it randomly assigns it a quality level based on your skill. In sims 2 you actually choose the whole plot. It took me about an hour to parse the satisfaction vs aspiration vs influence meters in the UI. It’s overwhelming at times actually!

Thank you mr.Amphibian for teaching me this lovely lesson. I need to find a lamp now.
