  • Oh my God! Thank you so much for correcting my loop. I thought you had to do a half turn before the loop and now I see it’s a quarter turn. I can’t wait to get on the ice to try this. I’m going to try it at home on my carpet just to get the feel. But oh you are amazing and I’ve been skating for 10 years. Thanks for the correction.

  • Thank you so much for making this! I'm working on my single loop with my coach (and I think everyone who is able to have access to a coach should work with one for things like this!) but it is SO, SO helpful to hear things explained again, and be able to watch your technique and explanations over and over. Just having exposure to a different teaching style can really make a difference. :)

  • Landed it three or four times after working on it for three years. My coach was stretched thin with lessons for other's. I also didn't really like her, compared to everyone else she made me feel stupid. This jump made me feel like, despite creatively be one of the best I could never live up to the technical aspect. After almost 10 years of skating I was told either figure skate or don't. I choose don't. Still I loved it. In the end not being able to perform in the end of year show crushed me. I'm amazing at improvising routines and the coach refused. I had to be there that day to perform in some of the group numbers and help with child skaters. It hurt.

    • I stopped skating as well because I didn't get along with my coach- it was terrible. She never explained techniques properly, never gave corrections even if I asked for it, apparently talked badly about me behind my back (I was friends with the girls in my group, that's how I found out) and made people she didn't like do spins in the lutz corner. I still absolutely love going skating and practicing on my own from time to time, but these experiences kinda put me off from actively wanting to get lessons again.

  • As far as I can tell, You are the best coach on KZhead. Very methodical and well explained. I have been skating for few years now few times a year every december on temporary ice rink with borrowed skates in my fifties. The skates are usually not sharp enough, but with your help I am close to do it anyway.

  • I love your videos Coach Mary :) but in fact when you look carefully at every videos of loop jumps in slow motion (even Yuzuru Hanyu , Javier Fernandez.etc) all the loop jumps actually take off forward : I mean when they leave the ice the toe pick and skate is facing forward and so in fact for a single loop jump we actually only have 1/2 rotation in the air :) we dont leave the ice facing backward but still we initiate the rotation backward while we start bending the legs. look up at 2.52min for ex and you can see you're facing forward when you leave off the ice ;).

  • it took me several months to figure out this jump and land it properly, so my advise is not to give up and try experimenting with your movements a bit, till you start "feeling" the jump. Then repeat what works best for you. the trickiest part here is that this jump is actually quite simple, but you need lots of practice to understand it! And thank you Mary for excellent tutorial, it was very helpful to hear explanation from your perspective.

    • Vivargenti .......same here!! So glad you commented, coz I’ve been trying to find out how long it has taken people to get this jump and everyone else seemed to be able to get it so much quicker...Took me two months to be able to even get the feel of it and do the teeniest weeniest of little jumps....(still can’t do it from crossovers tho, only the FI3 turn).....but I’m so happy to at least get what I have and can now start to build on it.....

      @leannemartin9137@leannemartin91374 жыл бұрын
    • @@leannemartin9137 someone in the comment section below told it took them 3 years.. so two months is not that bad!! And congrats on first success :) I also started with FI3 entry, it's much easier to get the momentum that way. You can also try jumping not straight from crossovers, but (as a transition to crossover entry) first do a forward outside 3 (like for salchow), step on right foot, legs cross and then jump. Worked for me as well

  • Euler jumps seem harder than actual loop jumps to me. You need to land in your left foot which is really different from landing with your right foot. I still think the Euler is a very nice jump if done with speed and power.

    • yes exactly! a common error is jumping off the middle of the blade and not rocking all the way up to the toe pick, so you do not get maximal height

  • Whats the different between a loop and an axel?

    @mrpepero@mrpepero4 жыл бұрын
    • A Loop takes of on a backward outside edge, and an Axel on a forward outside edge. Both land backward, which means, the Axel has a half rotation more (If the Loop has one rotation, the Axel has one and a half, Loop two rotations, Axel two and a half...)

    @FennecKai@FennecKai4 жыл бұрын
