James Corden Opens Up to Oprah About His Weight Loss Journey | Full Interview | WW

2024 ж. 28 Нау.

In this intimate, unedited conversation, James Corden speaks to Oprah about his success with Carpool Karaoke, losing weight on WW (formerly Weight Watchers), and his biggest hopes for his children. The half-hour discussion was part of Oprah’s Your Life in Focus: Be the Love You Need event, presented by WW, which aired in front of a live, Zoom-based studio audience.
Corden, who started his wellness journey with WW in early January, has lost 16 lbs.* so far.
He says: “As a man, it’s historically seen as it isn’t very sexy to say that you’re on a diet. Or it’s not very manly somehow to want to make changes in your own health. Because men drink beer and we go out and it doesn’t matter what you look like and all those things. And I actually think it’s the single most positive and sexy thing you can do to say ‘I would like to be a bit healthier. I would like to be a healthier presence in my family, for my children. I would like to feel better.’”

  • I kept thinking James was about to burst into tears at any moment. This interview has given me insight into him; sensitive, emotional, sweet, humble, doesn't take himself to seriously, has much gratitude, has focus and is likeable .

    • I agree with you. Apparently, when he was young and first coming up there were stories in the UK about him acting up in public, but a lot of people when they first get some fame, have a hard time handling it. I think a lot of what we see that is good about him, is not just an act. I believe it takes some humility to discuss a weight problem. Yes he's a sponsor and he's getting paid - but he still has to be vulnerable to discuss it. I also agree with Oprah that he is very intense about performing and giving joy to the public. I think he works his butt off to be a good performer. I don't think he takes his success for granted.

  • James, I've become a HUGE fan after finding your stuff on KZhead during the pandemic. I used to have weight problems too. I was at 330, lost 120 lbs, and for the most part, kept if off the past 5-6 years. YOU CAN DO THIS! I've seen you talk about your weight issues like I used to, joking around about it to make it bearable. All the stuff you just said on here about your weight loss are along the lines of what I said when I lost my first bit. You're on your way! Think about it this way, loose half as much as you've already lost and YOU'LL HAVE LOST 10% OF YOUR BODY WEIGHT!!! Keep at it!!!

I went to a nutritionist and she put it simply: You must make the "diet" not a diet, but a lifestyle. If it does not grow on the ground, if it doesn't grow in soil Do Not put it in your mouth! She was so direct and raw that I went home and could not get that comment from my mind. I am 60 now and I'm at 135! Yay me. It took me a few years...I even became a vegetarian. If I "treat" myself I have a sneakers bar once in a while..lol. I took up zumba because I love to dance. I donot eat after 7. It's hard, but your body is a machine. In other for it to run at its best we must feed it all the best. I hope this helps. Best of everything to you.

And your words made a difference in my life today! It is absolutely a lifestyle and I always lived my life that way. Until I had an accident and put self care at the bottom of my to do list. Then Covid came, which gave me an easy excuse to keep putting my health off. And then my bday (50), which gave me more excuses bc not only could I put things off, I could hide at home while doing it! But enough is enough and as you have reminded me, it is a lifestyle! And it is true--nothing ever tastes as good as looking thin and being healthy feels! Time to remember that! Thank you for that! And your doctor's recommendations --which I believe in--That is going to be the first thing I think of tomorrow morning! And I won't let you down! You made a difference today! • Gosh, this is so touching, positive and encouraging. I come from a family in which all of the women were overweight, or struggled with weight all their lives. My mother liked to feed people. She prepared fresh food and we never had potatoes or dessert, never drank cokes or any such thing, and yet my sister and I became a bit 'chubby' anyway. By the time I was 20, I was 15 pounds overweight and inching up. A lot on a 5'3" frame. I didn't know how to eat to not keep gaining weight and I was becoming quite uncomfortable in my body. This was 50 years ago. I contacted Weight Watchers and went to a meeting. Now everybody looked at me suspiciously when I weighed in. I said, I just want to learn how to eat so I am not afraid of food. We all wanted that. Fear of food and ignorance are fatal when it comes to taking care of the body. WW taught me how to live with food. We have to eat to live. I've followed their basic guidance all of my life. I'm still trim at 73. Not a California hardbody, by any means, but I do yoga twice a week and use a walking treadmill. I've been cooking everyday in lockdown and sharing food with neighbours. A great pleasure. Yes, my tummy is bigger after a year of mostly sitting down, but it's not too bad, and now that I've had the first dose of vaccine, I can look forward to spreading my wings a bit. Love you James and Oprah. Thanks and blessings on you.
