I had a neighbor tell their tree guys they could use my driveway. Nobody asked me. They dragged the branches over my gravel driveway and pulled most of the rock into my lawn. They also left ruts, branches and leaves, and flattened my rhubarb plants. I appreciate your absolute professionalism.
Thank you, yes we definitely wouldn’t go on someone’s property without talking to them first
I had the same problem along with other damage. The tree service didn’t care when I came out so I had the police trespass them. They didn’t finish the job and didn’t get paid. Had they asked, been careful and not been arses about it I would have allowed it.
We weren’t trespassing. This particular tree was a danger to the neighbor, not necessarily our customer. If the tree fell as branches had already, it could’ve caused serious harm to the neighbor.
You first comment about the neighbor was good and professional. Not knowing the time span between the conversation with the neighbors and the work being done could have been the problem. Did anyone from your crew speak or leave a note to remind her a day or two out? Your second and third comments makes your company look bad (for future customers in your area) in my opinion. Go by the old Navy term of K.I.S.S. "and we clean up everything to look like it did before we started. As a Traffic Flagger there are times I need to block access to homes or a business. (I have done many jobs with tree cutting crews) I will tell them what is going on and that I will work with them before I setup. Now when a tree cutting crew block my driveway and mailbox I was not happy!. 1. Did you knock on the door? No 2. Do you pay any bills here? Nio
A few sticks on the drive beats a trunk through the roof.
It was a crusty Beech, no doubt it would have caused damage during storm season- great observation
Then if it litters the driveway, people say it was God’s doing … blame it on God. On top of that, the neighbor now owns the entire tree recently fallen on their property! Haha. Some people don’t understand how to let their tree owning neighbors Be good neighbors.
Lol few sticks, he said it took the crew over 90 mins to clean "Karen's" driveway.... Once I heard that she lost the Karen title instantly..
Some people will never be happy.
It takes time to move equipment and mats. The crane alone takes 45 minutes to take down, plus we had mats on the ground. Once the driveway was clear of all our heavy equipment , cleanup took about 15/20 minutes. We rake and do a final blow out to remove sawdust. Hence leaving it better than when got there. Sorry, I should have clarified
This is why get everything in writing no matter how friendly you are with your neighbor
Incredibly professional!! What a crew, teamwork at its finest.
Poetry in motion, when work is done by true professionals, everyone benefits. Amazing to watch, thank-you.
Thank you for your kind words
it was the slinging of the branches that amazed me they hardly moved when the saw went through I am retired and worked with cranes all my working life .
It never ceases to amaze me the lunatics you have to deal with.
At one landscape company I worked for we ran into a similar situation. We needed to access the clients yard from the neighbors property so we personally talked with the neighbor to get permission. We let them know any damage to the turf, which we knew was going to happen, would be repaired. In the middle of the job the spouse came home and blew his lid. His wife didn't tell him she gave us permission. We had to stop the job, clean up our mess and then figure out how we were going to finish the job from the clients side. It was a big headache.
I am looking at a huge tree limb that needs to come down. This is precise work guys!
Thank you so much!
Glad you gents were the bigger people. Luck to you in all you do, and MAD props for your skills!
@Gloria Russell she had already given her permission to let them use her land! And they told her they would clean it all up and repair anything if necessary! So why did she act like that? They didn't belittle her, just said how it was. Hell she was also a previous customer!
@Gloria Russell are you serious? There was no “belittling”. She gave them permission, knowing exactly what they would be doing as they’ve done work for her before! You “Karen’s” really do stick together 🙄 Or are you the whining lady?
@glo60 Actually if you'd listened properly you would have heard them say she'd given permission in advance to come on to her place so yes bag her on social media why not. She probably spilled her guts about them too on social media. I dare say the removal of the tree was beneficial to her as well.
@glo60 She gave permission then came home and threw a fit about them being there. Would she have prefered the dead tree eventually falling on her property!?
Super nice equipment. Your workmanship is awesome. Your video production is top quality. Keep 'em coming.
You’re really kind, thank you Gerard enjoy your day!
Most professional tree felling I've ever seen. Bravo!
The neighbor probably didn't fully appreciate how her driveway was going to be use. She may have thought only the truck would be parked, but didn't connect the truck in the driveway to the actual cutting up of the tree and the chipping of the tree in her driveway. Also, the tree being so dry and creating so much dust and flyaways freaked her out. I understand her shock, but hope her reaction wasn't too bad. One time I asked my lawn person to trim the hedge in the front yard back because they we getting to large. He agreed. I walked away. I came back and my hedges looked hacked to death. He cut them _way_ back. I freaked out _inside the house._ I couldn't believe it! I drank some water, trashed to myself, went outside and told him I had no idea he was going to cut them back that far. The hedges looked like twigs. No leaves. *On the front of the house.* He told me they would grow back in x amount of time and I would like them. Well, he was right! They grew back full and lush and you would never know. TLDR: Trust the professionals and the professionals need to anticipate the customer's concerns *during* the actual work. Professionals don't just focus on what the final result will be because customers freak out in the middle. Very nice video! Nice narration too.
The tree had already caused a hazard to her because limbs were falling into her driveway. I’m happy it’s over, and both of the families involved are safe. Hopefully, she’ll have better days ☺️ Sometimes when pruning, you have to educate the clients. It can be a shock if you don’t know what you’re looking at. I’m happy it turned out ok and your hedges came back ☺️
An overgrown hedge needs severe cutting back to start the 'hedge-forming' process from scratch. Can be on your planned maintenance schedule - every ten years or so - ?.
Nut case Neighbour.
Exactly
That is kinda what I assumed also. The neighbor probably thought you were cutting up the tree where it fell and only lifting it over the fence onto trucks to haul it away. Did the customer tell the neighbor your crew was going to make a massive mess and create a lot of noise right next to their house, but would clean up after - doubt it very much
That driveway looked perfect afterwords. Nice video.
Some people aren’t happy unless they have some thing to complain about
great filming and drone work. What a first class tree removal company. Nice video!
I wish my tree guys had cleaned up as wel as you. I had to put in about 5 hours after they left to get things tidied up
Situations like this are why I personally go to the surrounding neighbors and ask for permission on these types of projects. It also gives me a chance to accurately explain the work being done, address their concerns and manage expectations. Great work on those trees.
Hi Carl, this is exactly what happened and it is the best practice! Kudos to you!
@@middlesex_tree Since you did work for that neighbor, she should have known that you do an excellent clean up work and not to worry. Sounds like she panicked. The tree professionals we use are so good that after they are gone, you can't even tell they were there - except a tree is gone.
I’m hoping it was just a bad day and whatever was wrong is better now.
@@middlesex_tree - That may be exactly what happened, but it is not what was described in the video. The video states that the client was the one who actually approached their neighbor, and was the one who secured permission - not you directly. There may be a discrepancy between the video and the actual goings on?
@My Name is ? - Same here. Been climbing trees for a living/paying taxes on it, for 31 years.
Excellent drone work. I wish you were near me. I have trees that need to come down in the same manner as you did this one. Super good video. Thanks.

I really enjoyed watching this vid! Great editing, and footage. Very interesting to see how you do things and what it takes to cut down a big tree. 👍🏽🙌
Loved this camera angles you guys did a great job with the trees too😃
Nice tree work and great video Frank. Keep up the good work. Always enjoyable to watch.
Hey Ralph thanks very much!
This crew just worked at my home - we had two giant oaks (10’ circumference x 60’ tall) removed and five other giant oaks pruned and I am totally impressed with Derek and his Middlesex Tree work crew. I work from home and was able to watch them between my online meetings and was simply blown away at how coordinated and efficient they are. They took care to protect my lawn and driveway and to clean up. One of the oaks was very close to our home and they brought it down in sections using a crane. I feel really good about having them do this work and am beyond impressed!! Thank you Derek and crew!!
Hey Gregory, it was an absolute pleasure to work at your house today! We had a blast and enjoy the weather. Thank you very much for all the kind words!! Excited to put your video together!

I had a neighbor who told a tree company that I told them they could come through my yard go all way to my backyard from my front yard to cut down a tree one house away in their yard. It was a lie I told my neighbor they could not cut through my yard which I had sodded 8 months earlier and had a beautiful lawn. I even had no trespassing signs in my yard two of them. I came home to find the tree company had cut through my side yard into my backyard completely tore up the grass all the way down the house and in the backyard when I ask them to leave they told me I gave permission so I asked them which one of them ever talk to me no one did but the neighbor I had told no. They were jerks didn't care that they tore up my grass I could have had them arrested for trespassing in my private backyard and side yard and charged them with the destruction of my yard. They could have easily access the house where they were cutting the tree down but they had a privacy fence they didn't want to remove so they tore up my yard instead. It was ridiculous I had to replace all the grass which cost a fortune and the neighbor and the tree service never offered to help do anything. And I could have been a real jerk and press charges and sue them for damages. So make sure you talk to the homeowner directly before you trespassing someone's yard don't believe the neighbor you're doing the work for.
Thank you Wanda, we had permission directly from the neighbor. I spoke with her several times. I’m so sorry that happened to you
@@middlesex_tree it wasn't your company it was nothing against you guys. Just making a comment regarding my ordeal that the neighbor lied to the tree service I wish they had talked to me directly. @@wandabrown2391 thank you, I’m really sorry that happened to you and appreciate the comments 😊
I would've sued the crap out of them to teach them a lesson. Neighbors and contractors like that take advantage of people like you for being too nice and forgiving too easily. I've encountered contractors like that that are aware they're in someone else's property and don't respect that property.
If it was as big a deal as what you say, filing a $75 small claims court application would gave been totally worth it to save all that money. But one can only assume you did not because of something you have not included in this story.

I am so excited to stumble on your video and see the magnificent work you do. I wanted to just be there and watch. A real manly mans job!
Thank you Titia! We’d love to create more content, anything in particular you’d like to see?
Excellent video. This is the way large trees should be removed. In sections, and so pieces do not cause anymore property damage than absolutely necessary (includes fences, sheds, flower gardens, debris in neighbors yard, etc.). I have heard people complain about the price of removal, thinking all you need is a chainsaw and not thinking about what could happen. This is definitely not cutting down a tree out in the forest. I think many of us have seen the videos of what can happen when little thought has been given to the job at hand. The neighbor should not have gotten so upset. Maybe she thought everything would have already been over and done by the time she came home not realizing what a big job it was. This is the kind of thing that it would probably be a good idea to try to more fully explain things? And maybe also take pictures/video of the area before the work to have it as evidence of the properties condition to avoid future claims of damage? I am really impressed on how you handled the situation and most of all the great work you all did from start to finish.
Thanks Shanna! Great suggestions! We did talk to her before job start and actually worked with her previously so she knew firsthand what was involved. Her reaction was worse than a child in my opinion.

Out of curiosity, did you have to do anything about the area where the chain link fence was afterwards? Replace anything or was that all decided on beforehand? You guys look like you do really great work. Have a great Day! 🙂
When I meet the client to estimate the job, I go through all the "what ifs" and set clear expectations as to what they can expect in terms of cleanup, potential hazards, if any lawn maintenance will be needed after, etc. In this particular case, I explained to the customer that since the tree grew into the fence there was no other efficient way for removal except cut/ remove the fence. After we left, the customer put a new fence in. Thank you for the interest and question!
@@middlesex_tree personally I would’ve left whatever chunk of trunk grown into the fence, and then burned it, fence intact!

You did the right thing ..there no telling what the lady day was like..people act crazy at times...
"Lady day" ? Really stupid the channel owners thumbed up this comment. Something about how you did business clearly upset the neighbor. Maybe you need to communicate better what kind of mess would be on her property and at what time of day it would be cleaned up. Maybe you need to document the verbal agreement with neighbors via text messages or emails so you'd actually have some proof you had permission to be on HER property. Lot's of women hire arborists and this video isn't a ringing endorsement for your company. Unless she was happy at the end of the day best believe she's telling her circle of friends about her negative experience with your company.
@@botanynerd6450 How is anything that Barbara said in any way pejorative to the neighbor? "There's no telling what the lady's day was like," means she could have had a bad day, and she called her a lady instead of what she was acting like. Something the channel owner did "clearly" upset the neighbor? How is that "clearly"? Why is he automatically in the wrong, when you saw the cleanup in the video, as well as any of his other videos on this channel where you see the 'after' reveals. The neighbor can't be in the wrong, it has to be the company? Document the verbal agreement with neighbors? He's clearly said he had the neighbor's permission from the night before, in person from herself, after describing the work that would be done, and that he has done work for her in the past. No such job can be pristine _during the job,_ and he didn't promise it would be, only that it would be cleaned up after. She happened to come home before that point in the work, and went ballistic on him and his crew. I tend to believe his account, not because of any misogyny you keep trying to drag into about a dozen comments on here so far, but because of how he's telling the story, answering comments, and presenting himself. If you think describing the fit that a Karen can throw, automatically somehow makes the describer of said fit 'misogynistic', then one has to wonder if that might be your first name. Or maybe the guy owes you money or something. Geez, give it a rest, already....
Entitled people.
I’m hoping this wasn’t the case and just a tough day
Someone should start a side company called "passive aggressive tree pruning", where "they" make secret hidden cuts (for their own, or an evil neighbors, revenge) on large branches that just happen to fall on the guilty parties roof at the slightest wind gust. Any profit will be eaten up by home owners insurance, but it will be worth it! (just kidding, of course! My own chestnut tree that I was supposed to prune fell on my wife's brand new 1 week old Prius, which flattened like a tin can=9,000$ to fix!!! so I'm not trying to incur any more bad tree karma than I already have!).
That’s not nice ………..🤦🏻♀️

While you guys may not leave a mess or do damage, a lot of people do. I've seen it from tree jobs, builders, roofers, plumbers, you name it. It's a shame, even when you pay top dollar. That said, she still gave you permission. She probably didn't know the extent of what you were going to have to do from her side.
I agree with you a lot of contractors make a mess and you get what you pay for. She had a similar tree job done a couple months ago. She knew. I’m going to chuck it up to having a bad day

I literally cringed when he said they were taking the base trunk to the dump. I bet that would have made some great furniture had it been taken to a saw mill.
Most sawmills do not want logs that were grown in yards because people nail close lines and bird houses to trees so the trees are riddled with metal sawmills like trees that were grown in the woods free of metal to destroy the blades. So we rely heavily on local artisans but they too are limited, which too are limited
@@cakeman58 I'd have loved that just laid in my gardensnd have ferns etc planted by it, a great place for wildlife such as little beasties that feed the birds.

If that woman ever called back, I would claim to busy.
We wouldn’t work for her but wish her the best!
Bashing the neighbor publicly serves you no good long term. They know who she is and what she is, and now you too are involved. Get promises in writing, along with a written promise to clean up. That has your insurance info and license info on it. We have had the cops called on us over noise on emergency work because of noise complaints after 8PM. The complainant didn't care that the tree had to be removed to get tarps in place to protect the roof. They didn't care about their neighbor's house. Replying on the neighborhood list serve was a losing proposition. The police were understanding.
Thanks for the comment and advice😊. What happened went beyond an angry customer it was abusive. I believe customers have a responsibility to be good people just like we do. I have transparent, honest relationships with my customers and it’s something I value very much. I break my back every day to make sure my customers are happy, and if they’re not I’m going to work hard to make them happy. I never mentioned her name but I did want to show people that our work is done well because I’m sure from how irate and unreasonable she was she was bashing me for no reason. I would hate to subject my friends and family to working for her if I’m being completely honest but it’s not my place to interfere with their business.
