    • @@oibardicfury9333 That's not only wrong, but in the current scenario of the books impossible in the way the show portrays it. **Spoiler warning for those who have not read Book 3 and the Theon preview Chapter. Stannis in his current state is surrounded inclement weather and preparing to face the Bolton army. He is near Winterfell and not even with Shireen. The logical, capable commander that he is left his family as well as Mellisandre at the Wall (because they are non-combatants) when he departed to fight the Boltons. Furthermore when the fanatical portions of his army are burning unbelievers on their way to confront the Boltons Stannis bans them from doing so and says: "Half my army is made up of unbelievers. I will have no burnings. Pray harder." It is possible that Melissandre at the wall could commit the attrocity with his wife who is devoted to her, but please do not deceive people in saying that Stannis will commit the act when as any book reader knows that he has no ability to do so before fighting the Boltons. Now let's exmamine his intent, this quote about his feelings towards Ramsey Bolton should indicate to you how nessecary he might feel any sacrifice particularly of his daughter for the sake of winning the battle. (Speaking to a captured Theon) "I defeated your uncle Victarion and his Iron Fleet off Fair Isle, the first time your father crowned himself. I held Storm's End against the power of the Reach for a year, and took Dragonstone from the Targaryens. I smashed Mance Rayder at the Wall, though he had twenty times my numbers. Stannis - Lead by example -Great servant of his brother: The king Robert Baratheon - was a faithful husband and even confessed to his wife after being unfaithful - loved his child - loved his wife even though she did not provide an heir - Was at the forefront at war - Listened to the counselor (atleast until he was brain washed) - prioritise saving humanity against the Others/Zombies instead of focussing on the thron He could have been a great King, provided he broke ties with the Witch and was selfconfident .... and Eddard Stark knew it.

His plan was to convice Jon to leave the nights watch and becoming the warden of the north, which Jon had a claim. Therefore he can have more support to his claim as a King and gain support of the north and then the Riverlands which was his next goal. However Jon refused it. Second option is making Rickon warden of the north, if he could find him. He surely will win against the Boltons and then the Freys.

  • 'He perceived the rule of Robert Baratheon to be weak and lacking the support of the many noble houses of Westeros' What? 8 Great Houses. He is the head of House Baratheon. He's married into House Lannister. His best friend is ruling House Stark. Best friend's wife's family is from House Tully's main branch. His hand of the King and father figure is the head of House Arryn, plus he is also married to best friend wife's sister making the Riverlands alliance even stronger. So that's 5/8 main houses supporting him completely, and Greyjoy's are one of those three remaining. So that only leaves the Tyrell's and Martell's, the Tyrell's who do whatever they can to be on the winning side, so they would also be on Robert's side. The Martell's aren't stupid, they would probably stay out of it unless they have to join and they would join the Crown. Balon is a bloody fool.

The Greyjoy Rebellion is hilarious because it gave Bobby B. the one thing he craved for and excelled at far better than ruling a kingdom... A war. Even with book material I can't fathom how Balon seriously thought Robert Baratheon was that weak. Robert overthrew the Targaryens. • Skeptical Chris Apart from when you have a slave force to do everything for you. It is reminiscent of Sparta and how Spartans were, in the main, soldiers, priests, traders or nobility and had a pool of slaves called the Helots do everything else for them.

  • It shows how amazing of a story teller and writer GRRM is when his stories and the design of the houses and kingdoms is so organic and believable that if I didn’t know what GoT was I’d be sure that this was an actual event in history

  • I love that Thoros went in with a flaming sword with Jorah Mormont behind him. But later Tyrian lies to the Slavers saying that Jorah went in with the flaming sword so they'll send them to the fighting pits. Jorah stands there knowing the truth. Nice touch.

    • The thing with many battles in the past of the ASOIAF is that they're not well documented in tactics, setting and the like. GRRM only mentions what's useful to the reader and the story

    • Stanley Hendrick Yeah one of his weaknesses is his inability to visualise or describe a battle very well... He usually only focuses on one or two people, as oppose to the larger picture.

      @eleanorbrushia@eleanorbrushia6 жыл бұрын
    • GRRM does not need to do so, as ASOIAF is written as a series of viewpoints and maesters' writings. No one sees a battle the same way, so an overview is next to impossible. All we need to know is that Maeleys joined eight other rulers and was going to invade the Westerosi mainland, King Jaehereys II called the banners, many of the grandfathers and fathers in the main story made their bones, Lord Baelish made friends with Lord Tully, Aerys II won his knighthood, Quellon Greyjoy joined in and Barristan Selmy killed Maelys Blackfyre and joined the Kingsguard. That's all that needs to be known, really.

  • George RR Martin is a genius to create stories like this. It feels so genuine. It's like an idealised, streamlined version of real life. I love the small ways that people die. Like a wall falling on top of them.

    • Politically clever move to be fair. Beheading Balon Greyjoy, would incite even more anger in the Ironborn, who had already lost so much with the destruction of the Iron Fleet and the vast invasion of the Iron Island and the slaughter at the Siege of Pyke. By keeping Balon alive, and sworn to King Robert, the Ironborn now had their figurehead to blame: Their own Lord Balon, instead of Robert Baratheon. Now the Ironborn had the 'Man who Failed them', as a leader, instead of Robert Baratheon as the man who punished them. It'd ensure the Ironborn would atleast néver follow Balon Greyjoy into a battle against the mainland again. Especially since Ned Stark took his only living/surviving son, Theon, as a Ward(hostage) to ensure Balon's loyalty. Re-educating Theon in 'new ways', once Balon had passed away, Theon would be the heir to take upon the Salt Throne, and rule the Iron islands in a different manner, due to his formal education at Winterfell.

  • 7:22 As soon as Stannis's ship pulled within range Robert's recently acknowledged son and heir Gendry, who had thrown Joffrey out of the castle window for being of a corrupted bloodline, was the first onto the Ironborn flagship. With his mighty hammer he decimated the armored bulwark of ironborn, unable to defend against his hammers wraith. Gendry was on the ship less than two minutes and he caved in the head of Victarion. Upon hearing the exploits of his son, King Robert, beamed with pride at his son's fighting ability, and silently thanked the gods that Joffrey wasn't his!... weeks later, at the head of the invasion fleet, he readied himself for glory in battle with his son at his side.... Sorry was doing some an alternate timeline I would love! lol
