Oscar nominee Denis Villeneuve (“Arrival,” “Blade Runner 2049”) directs Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ “Dune,” the big-screen adaptation of Frank Herbert’s seminal bestseller of the same name.
A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence-a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential-only those who can conquer their fear will survive.
The film stars Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet (“Call Me by Your Name,” “Little Women”), Rebecca Ferguson (“Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep,” “Mission: Impossible - Fallout”), Oscar Isaac (the “Star Wars” franchise) Oscar nominee Josh Brolin (“Milk,” “Avengers: Infinity War”), Stellan Skarsgård (HBO’s “Chernobyl,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron”), Dave Bautista (the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, “Avengers: Endgame”), Stephen McKinley Henderson (“Fences,” “Lady Bird”), Zendaya (“Spider-Man: Homecoming,” HBO’s “Euphoria”), Chang Chen (“Mr. Long,” “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”), David Dastmalchian (“Blade Runner 2049,” “The Dark Knight”), Sharon Duncan-Brewster (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” Netflix’s “Sex Education”), with Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling (“45 Years,” “Assassin’s Creed”), with Jason Momoa (“Aquaman,” HBO’s “Game of Thrones”), and Oscar winner Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men,” “Skyfall”).
Villeneuve directed “Dune” from a screenplay by Jon Spaihts and Villeneuve and Eric Roth based on the novel of the same name written by Frank Herbert. Villeneuve also produced the film with Mary Parent, Cale Boyter and Joe Caracciolo, Jr. The executive producers are Tanya Lapointe, Joshua Grode, Herbert W. Gains, Jon Spaihts, Thomas Tull, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert.
Behind the scenes, Villeneuve reteamed with two-time Oscar-nominated production designer Patrice Vermette (“Arrival,” “Sicario,” “The Young Victoria”), two-time Oscar-nominated editor Joe Walker (“Blade Runner 2049,” “Arrival,” “12 Years a Slave”), two-time Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor Paul Lambert (“First Man,” “Blade Runner 2049”), and Oscar-winning special effects supervisor Gerd Nefzer (“Blade Runner 2049”). He also collaborated for the first time with Oscar-nominated director of photography Greig Fraser (“Lion,” “Zero Dark Thirty,” “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”); three-time Oscar-nominated costume designer Jacqueline West (“The Revenant,” “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “Quills”) and costume designer Robert Morgan; and stunt coordinator Tom Struthers (“The Dark Knight” trilogy, “Inception”). Oscar-winning and multiple Oscar-nominated composer Hans Zimmer (“Blade Runner 2049,” “Inception,” “Gladiator,” “The Lion King”) is creating the score.
Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures Present a Legendary Pictures Production, a Film by Denis Villeneuve, “Dune.” The film is slated to be released in select theaters in 2D and 3D and IMAX and on HBO Max on October 22, 2021 and will be available on HBO Max’s Ad-Free plan in 4K UHD, HDR10, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos (English Only) on supported devices for 31 days from theatrical release.
The film has been rated PG-13 for sequences of strong violence, some disturbing images and suggestive material.

  • I've read all 6 original DUNE books, and seen the 80s film and the sci-fi channel series. This new movie is superb! Amazing acting, costumes, sets & cinematography, and the soundscape is awe inspiring. Highly recommend for DUNE fans and for any new to the story. I'm so impressed with how this film version takes the original source material and follows it so well within a movie setting (of course minor changes, or omissions, are necessary in a film). I was really worried the film & director would have a hard time balancing the deeper tension of the sociopolitical drama, the mystical & foreboding powers, as well as the action. The books often have very long monologs, pages of internal dialogue, & contextual information, so I was glad to see this film tackle these themes while still maintaining a beautiful, and enthralling film. My husband us unfamiliar with DUNE and he was totally drawn in by the story/plot, acting, and music. You can take anyone to see this film with you

  • I always had faith in this director and he delivers big time. It feels like it's been such a long time since we had a smart slow-burner like this that's confident enough take to take you through such an amazing and rich story like Dune at its own pace. The cast is fantastic (especially Brolin as Gurney), the action set pieces are massive, and overall the visuals are just straight gorgeous. Also, massive props to Hans Zimmer on this soundtrack because it's perfect, nothing else should be said on that front. My only complaint is that it seems to suffer from the same complex as Lord of the Rings did; where it sacrifices some of slower scenes from the book that were devoted to world building like developing the culture and political factions for the big action scenes. For example, Paul's introduction to Mother Gaius was one of my favorite scenes in the book cause of how it introduced and built up the motivations behind the Empire, house Atreides, and the Bene Gesserit, and by extension a lot of the main characters. But to see all but 2 minutes devoted to this was a bit of a disappointment. However, this only makes up nitpicks in what was otherwise the best theatre experience I've had in a long time. Beyond estatic to see such a legendary novel get the big screen treatment it deserves.

    @miazua4337@miazua43372 жыл бұрын
    • Lol what? The movie was over 2 hours and it slow paced as well but STILL was able to flesh out the factions and cultures OF the people of the world entirely so the audience can know WHO they are and WHAT they want. And the movie does NOT “sacrifice” ANY of that for “big action scenes” lol that’s nonsense as the movie was fleshed out beautifully enough to have a immersive world of intrigue that’s WAY more grand than the action scenes, which were fantastically portrayed enough. No way did it “suffer from the same complex as lord of the rings did” as this movie was incredibly slow paced but heavily immersive and engaging. You’re not making ANY sense here at all. And the Bene Gersit scene at the beginning of the movie was given ENOUGH time to breath with the Time span of the movie already very long movie to know what the characters are and what they’re doing for the most part and there was MUCH more than just “2 minutes” as you know what the Bene Gersert are doing in this movie nuanced told and portrayed in this movie and what their future plans/motivations are for forward events.

    • How would you film the opening chapter that you're critiquing? All of the information, all of it, happens in the narration and internal thoughts. That scene is useless in a movie as exposition, because it verbally and physically indicates almost none.

      @pseudonymousbeing987@pseudonymousbeing987 Жыл бұрын
    • @@pseudonymousbeing987 it couldn’t at all as the opening scene of the movie already BRILLIANTLY and subtly conveys the information of the world of Dune to the audience in the BEST way possible without overdumping on exposition. What this person is “CrItIqUiNG” doesn’t make any sense as the movie has no “useless” detail and information as ALL of it is needed for character and plot for the audience to understand the story and immerse themselves into the world! That’s important which the movie MASTERFULLY does for every scene in the movie completely!

  • This was perhaps my most anticipated film of this year and it did not dissapoint. Denis Villeneuve like always has delievered strongly with this movie. My only complaint is that I wish it were longer because the whole lore surrounding the Dune universe is a lot to absorb and it seemed a bit jumpy in the early segments of the movie but maybe that's because I watch too many shows and expect everything to be as in depth as an 8 hour long show. The soundtrack for the movie was amazing it's Hans Zimmer so what more can we expect from the maestro. The scene with the sand worm towering over Paul in the last segment of the movie had powerful music and made the scene even greater. I was completely blank about what the story is about I did a bit of research but after watching the movie I feel like reading the books too the whole lore is so intriguing, it has so many layers to it. Timothee Chalomet is one of the most talented young actors out there right now and imo the best at the moment he compeletely embodies all the characters he plays as and I loved him in this movie although we got to see only a few intense scenes which seperates the great from the good and he did not let us down. Overall Villeneuve has built a strong base for a trilogy.

    • its a movie about worms....literally....and a dude that turns into a worm and then dies. i gurantee you, you will hate it. its one of the worst sci-fi series ever made. Its like starwars but 100 times worse. the entire conflict happens inside his head. the books get progressively worse. some stories lost most of their appeal in a visual medium. there's a reason he looks dead on the screen...its bc he's already dead on the inside lol. There are no real aliens either, its just humans. its honestly awful. Even the writting style is horrendous. IF it makes it into a relatively cool movie it will only be if they significantly alter the entire plot. Otherwise: sand, giant worms, emo ppl, repeat. They have never been able to make the whole series even tho they keep trying bc its just THAT bad. Ppl just lose interest. To this day its one of the main reasons I don't like sci-fi. Its like one of those ''caught in a dream" stories but its supposed to span thousands of years. The author was allegendly on drugs when he wrote it. Which is why it gets progressively worse lol.

      @andrabook8758@andrabook87582 жыл бұрын
    • OH and bc it all happens inside his head the audience always knows what;s gonna happen next. its honestly horrible. Its like an exercise in sucking every bit of joy out of reading a book. The author got the idea for it after watching ppl trying to plant grasses to stabilize sand dunes. Yeah....and he figured in his crazed brain on drugs that ''what if we didn;t do that, and the dunes just never ended"....and then he wrote a book about sand dunes. ANd before anyone yells spoilers, I did not say anything which is not on the cover of the novels or on wiki....so, yeah. The most fascinating part of this, the worms...are never explained. You never find out more than is in the trailer. They're just giant worms on a planet of sand. thats it. the end.
