  • Actually the lyrics are ON point with "TOMBOY", tomboy is not about fashion or apparence here but about attitude "This is my attitude" About being not what the stereotypes want women to be (polite, obedient, doll-puppet like) especially female idols Maybe with a little context you'll get the point better, in kpop it is still quite rare to female idol rappers to write their own lyrics, but it may happen times to times, but they are not encouraged to do so, worse their work as rapper may be looked down Being a producer while being a female idol is even rarer (like really rare), when Soyeon asked to learn about producing, stating her models being GD or Zico, people in entertainment industry didn't understand her and replied "but they're men" Soyeon thought why that even matters? and she has been called "Tomboy" because she does what other male idol rappers do like writing her lyrics and producing her songs She and her groups already bring this topic of prejudices due to their gender: Uh Oh (light hip hop which slaps haters and people who didn't believe in than because they do different), LION (empowerment song against the prejudices they encountered as artists especially as female), Oh my God (trusting-loving oneself-anyone without being restricted as male or female) Here they go even further and called themselves "tomboy", because they don't want to be defined as doll(puppet) female idols but as artists (as every artist should be) "It's not here I'm not your doll" "It is neither man nor woman" "I won't change it what the hell" BTW the MV(and somehow the song, to lighten/making easier to understand the meaning) extrapolates the meaning of the song to the relation which could exist in a heterosexual romantic relation where the man might expect the woman to be a docile and fragile doll, but the protagonists here do not want to, they want just being themselves not defined as female but as human, they rather be tomboy which here implied something between man and woman than "just" woman "Your mom raised you as a prince But this is Queendom, Right?" Fun fact: (G)I-DLE or (yeoja)I-DLE G means girl Yeoja (it may not be written correctly sorry I'm not Korean) means woman So they play on this meaning saying instead "Just me I-DLE"

  • It also sort of surprises me that people are hating on soyeon’s rap, even saying it was google translate. I think they missed the entire point. “I don’t wanna play this ping pong” is a direct reference to hyuna and dawn’s song, which is all about their love. The next line “I would rather film a tik tok” is a very lighthearted way of saying she’d rather focus on herself, and do whatever dumb thing she wants. This is reinforced in the very next line “your mom raised you as a prince but this is queendom right?” The whole way this verse flows and her tone, it came across to me as almost mimicking the ditzy girl she’s expected to be. “I like dance, I like my friends” is cutesy girly, but then “sometimes we swear without cigarettes” is a little more like, oh, wait huh? Then the conclusion: “I like to ** while drinking whiskey, I won’t change it what the hell!” The whole verse is her tonally, lyrically, and expressively breaking out of the expectations that come with being a woman in an almost teasing way. And yet people are mad she said tik tok. I don’t get it.

  • Soyeon and Yuqui really were the MVPs of this dance they killed it, but everyone killed it. Some quick Shuhua appreciation cuz she slayed too, and Minnie omg her stage presence. I love them all so much and I would love to see them cover this as a group (doing the vocals and rap as well as the dance). Miyeon’s voice and Soyeon’s rap style especially fit this song, and if Shu got as much center time and lines as she did in this video and Yuqi got the rap part that she did in this vid i’d be so happy! It would be really interesting to hear Minnie’s voice in this song too. Moral of the story I want this to happen so badly and they all slayed.
