Wenn oder wann? When to use which and what do they mean exactly?

  • I defer to Middle English. The Canterbury Tales starts with "Whan that Aprill with his shoures soote, the droghte of March hath perced to the roote." From there I get a better grip on how tell them apart.

  • I think German is very cool. you can have closely related words but also no confusion. in English most closely related words are confusing

  • In the example 'ruf mich an, wenn du zu hause bist ' how do we know call me when u get home or call me if u r home? Thanks and you are great!

    • Good one! Its true it also can be translated with if u r home. But never came across this situation saying this. So in 99% it will be “when u get home”.

Beispiele sind: „es“, „er“, „sie“, „ich“, „du“, „der“, „die“, „das“, „dem“, „den“, „da“ und „dann“. Beispielsätze: - „Tut mir leid.“ (es) - „Ist nicht schlimm.“ (es) - „Wo ist Lisa?“ - „Hat den Bus verpasst.“ (sie/die) - „Gefällt mir!“ (das) - „Brauchst nicht zu helfen.“ (du) - „Stimme ich zu.“ (dem) - „Kennst du diesen Roman?“ - „Hab ich schon gelesen.“ (den) - „Haste recht!“ (da) - „Klingelt doch vorhin so einer bei uns.“ (da) - „Weiß ich Bescheid!“ (dann) Hinweis an alle Deutschlerner, die das lesen: Einige dieser Wörter werden nur in ein paar wenigen Fällen ausgelassen - normalerweise nicht. Deshalb wäre ein Video zu diesem Thema sehr interessant!

  • Swiss German 🇨🇭 and Germany German 🇩🇪 both are same language as American and British English ? Just between they have some word's difference ?

    • No. Big difference. Swiss German is actually just a spoken language and has itself tons of different dialects. In Switzerland we learn and speak also Hochdeutsch (Germany German) and it is like our mother tongue. Swiss German has the same origin but the difference between those two are much bigger than US, UK or AUS English.

    • Immer wenn is only for habits or routines. Wann immer is only for time related sentences.
