Ice Off in February? | Fly Fishing Early Season Rainbows

We heard rumors that one of our favorite stillwaters had some open water in February so naturally we had to go check it out. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived and saw lots of open water with a little bit of ice still lingering. Curtis, Lance and Brent geared up and began searching the water for fish with balanced leeches, chironomids and sow bugs. Fishing was tough at first but trekking to the other side of the lake proved to be the best idea. Healthy rainbows were caught on the Chironomid Frenchie, Olive Blanced Leech and a tan Sow Bug. Follow along for some great Utah fly fishing.

  • Honestly, this is just about my favorite time of year. Not only do I have the entire fishing season to look forward to…I have a secret hole where holdover rainbows start moving into this feeder creek of a bigger lake. They’re the ones that have survived a year or two so they’re big and ornery 👍

  • Lance should have to fish bare hooks to make fishing buddies feel better, oh I forgot he would still catch more fish insufferable

  • So what’s the name of the lake? Please give valuable information to the public. I am not interested in watching people fishing. Or you just show videos to promote sales? Thanks 🤔

    • If we gave names of the places do you think many people would go there? Do you like fishing with LOTS of people? But yeah. We mostly promote sales in these videos. Works great. You learn skills, and you also get to have a place that sells it all. Pretty slick.

    • This comment has to be a joke. NOBODY burns spots these days. Especially on the Internet.
