A true genius on so many levels. Charlie wrote and directed all of his films as well as starring in them and composing a great deal of the music for them. I wonder if the US Government will ever apologize to his family for the disgusting way he was treated by our government and by the pathetic pervert, J. Edgar Hoover.

Churchill - on his grand tour of North America - visited Charlie on September 24 1929, at his Hollywood studio on the corner of Sunset Boulevard and La Brea Avenue. Churchill wrote that Charlie was "too sweet for words". At the time, Charlie was making City Lights during the transition from silent film to “talkies.”
