Is the fake in your Seamaster video made by Ziarex?
As soon as he said, "I’ll cut straight to the point", I knew he wouldn't.
True

No one ever seems to.
He never does and 80% what he says is plain meaningless words
RandomTechS@#T only is meaningless to those who thinks so, to those who would listen and understand the ideology behind it, and can capture it. It is priceless, no matter what.
There are watches with the same serial numbers as the originals, and only one company, called Ziarex, sells them.

As an American living in CH for years, my wife took my Rolex sub (that I have owned for 24 years) to the local Rolex certified shop (Bucherer) for a service. The lady at the shop told my wife that they would not service the watch because it was a fake. She had the original purchase papers and the lady still insisted it was fake. The store manager was called in to examine the watch and verify that it is genuine and that they would be happy to ship it to Rolex for the full service. The service cost me $1100. Lesson learned. These fakes are looking pretty good considering the "official" treatment one receives when owning a real one. It was really an embarrassing experience for my wife...the store was not empty and the lady at Bucherer made her feel unwelcome with that statement. Fu^% those pompous pricks.
The Swiss are like that generally
Rolex sellers and dealers have an attitude about them!
That's one of the reasons I dislike Rolex, sadly. The other main reason will be the: hey, I want a rolex. Alright, I can't sell you a rolex right now.
They probably kept yours and gave you a fake back.

I own 2 watches, a 1973 Rolex DJ ( my birth year) and a 2006 Seamaster. The Rolex was a Christmas present from my wife and the Seamaster was a reward to myself for sticking to a 4 year goal. Worn the Seamaster practically every day for 16 years. Some years back had to replace the bracelet which cost almost $2k. I paid about $4k for the whole watch! Recently I noticed a beautiful looking watch on my friend’s wrist. I commented on it and he gave it to me to try. It was a Seamaster Planet Ocean 007. Expecting an even heavier watch than mine, I was shocked as it was lighter. Still I admired this handsome watch on my wrist and was stoked when my friend said it’s yours. For the following 3 hours I stared at it on the plane but something just didn’t seem right. Not only was it lighter in weight the lume wasn’t as bright as my old Seamaster and the edges of the bezel felt sharp. I’m convinced it’s a fake, although a terrific looking one. Still I haven’t worn it since as it just doesn’t feel right. Begs the question do you buy for yourself or to impress others?
I like to wear good replicas and I dont care what might others think. I could afford a real one but I dont want to baby them and always to be afraid it could be stolen. Which, BTW, happended with my fake Sub. Got stolen one minute away from my golf bag. If someone compliment me because of my watch I always tell them that its fake.

TRUE.
Intelectual property theft is serious. But watchmakers have to come back down to planet earth with those ridiculous prices.
You and I will agree IP rights are to be respected. We can have an appreciation for the ability to replicate all we want, but stealing IP, R&D, and all the time, money, and labor that went into designing and creating something that captivates so many is clearly wrong. That said, I feel that very reality reinforces those prices. At $5,200 for this watch in particular, you are not only paying for a mass produced, albeit quality watch. You are also covering the costs of R&D and, quite honestly, the entire legacy that led to that watch. Without Omega, in this case, that $500 very accurate copy, would not exist. The connection it has to James Bond would not exist. It would cost $500 because no one would pay more for it (feature for feature). Ignoring for the moment that in a capitalist society, there should always be room for products at every price point, the simple reality is, that when you buy something that is extremely coveted... enough to warrant such a close copy to be made... you are are not only paying for a fine quality piece, but also paying for the very arduous road that made that piece even possible.
@@herewegoagain... R&D for a watch that's been the same for 52 years.
They will only charge what people will pay... They aren’t for regular humans. I’m not jealous of anyone. Well... to a point.
I think the point in these watches is for them to be expensive, and for the owner to feel like they've 'made it' when they buy it. If you don't care about lying to yourself and just want it for appearances, fair enough. No one would judge you for it, because they wouldn't ever notice, but you'll know.
There are plenty of genuine “Swiss Made” mechanical movement watches that are priced in the hundreds of dollars. High-quality watches from brands that are reputable and well known. In other words, your comment is moot and you will not able to objectively rebut my response to you. Next time, try to educate yourself before making ill informed and grossly subjective comments.

I find it really interesting how well these watches can be faked but I really don't care about what watch I'm wearing. I like to wear one as an accessory like how I always wear a belt even if my pants fit just fine, but it doesn't have to be an Omega or look like one... I used to to own a Casio and after that an Icewatch with a nice chronograph. Recently I bought a Galaxy watch and I love the convenience and functionality of it, and I love how black and sleek it looks in sleep mode. The thing only costed me 200 bucks! That's the starting price of a proper watch and you get something so much more useful! I love it. Getting a fake watch is kinda sad. Why would you? To be a poser? I don't get it. It only tells the time. A 200 dollar watch does the same thing. It doesn't have to be an Omega or a Rolex... there are some really nice affordable watches in the 200 - 500 dollar range, mechanical ones even. Automatic chronographs... watches that look a lot more expensive than they are, and some which even appreciate in value. But if you really want an Omega, al least get a real one.
In 2021, Rolex produced (estimated) 1.05m watches and generated revenues of $8.8 BILLION USD which is $8400 per time piece. So even genuine Swiss watches are NOT about rarity but more what the "market can bear". When shops say they are out-of-stock it's just a way to get your contact details to sell you one WHEN (not if) the watch arrives. Most likely I'll purchase a Tudor this year but the one I want is not made anymore... but to think an AP royal Oak is $50,000 I think I may as well get a Pagani Design "royal oak" for 1% of the cost & give away the 99% to charity or buy a nice Seiko or SeaGull.

Aside from the intrinsic characteristics like bragging rights, legacy, history of Omega, it's astonishing how far the replicators have come and how much they can deliver for the money. Imagine the quality if the fake costed half of the genuine instead of one tenth. Also imagine what the Swiss watchmakers can deliver for the price of the fakes.
they cost one tenth because someone ain't getting paid(workers of the sweatshops), they won't deliever the same quality no matter the money because they just can't and if they could, they would've done that long ago and it would cost a lot, and finally they would absolutely not design a new movement or a new watch, they can only copy. You can choose to wear a mastercrafted original timepiece, or you can choose to wear a subpar, albeit flashy watch that you can't service in an official dealer or service center and which was made by an underpaid worker, i'm not giving a damn, just saying
@@dxdxdxdxdxd7125 Dont be silly, if they can make it to such a standard, they definitely fully understand how watches at these level are made, and designing a new movement is not hard, its just not worth it if you couldn't sell it for a shit ton of money. Making a high quality replica of a famous brand allow the investor to turn manufacturing capacity into profit with a very predictable income stream and low overhead, they only need to make a convincing copy of the real thing at a price point that is affordable to a lot of people, and they know customer will come. There are Chinese watch brands that are trying to make something out of themselves and design and make original watches, but its very hard work, and it mostly fall on marketing and brand building. In China, their strongest skillset are in science and engineering, to take something, reverse engineering it and then create a great copy of it is just easy for them. I would argue that all those famous brand are POS at their price point, as clearly if a replica at 15-20 times cheaper can get so close to it. Also don't be naive, if watch making is difficult, do you think that it would be cheap to get skilled labour thats pretty much on par with Omega in this case? As for servicing, why do you need an official dealer to service it? A watch is no different than any device, it can be serviced by someone who knows what they are doing. All my Porsche and BMWs have never serviced at the dealer because I have a trusted shop that deals with BMW and Porsche at a more reasonable price point. You sound like a snob. I have many fake high end watches and I have enjoyed them, I really just like their look and nothing else, as I see them as inferior time keeping POS, my $200 Bulova (this one is real lol) precisionist has a margin of error of 8sec PER YEAR, so any mechanical watches can go fxxk off pretending to be a watch that keeps good time in the 21st century. For all the fake high end watches I bought and enjoyed, I invested the difference into the stock and crypto over the years and I have made 7 figures gain. I can't thank my cheap stake ass enough for that lol.
@@c2chung totally believeable, mate the part about cars and fake watches sounds true tho, what can i say, keep lying to yourself, misaligned markers, crooked numbers on a dial, imperfections, dirt under the crystal and so on and so forth, the fake is a fake, if designing a movement is so simple why the fakes are made without the original movement copied, but instead a cheap mass-produced one is placed there or a sloppy replica wannabe? And that is why the watchmakers have a problem with servicing it - they often don't know where the hell parts are coming from, because its not a familiar movement of the watch fake one is trying to copy, also Porshe and BMW shop needs to be certified, otherwise you are losing your manufacturer warranty, and from your words i suspect you have 10+ years young cars, so you don't have it anyway, and you can't compare a car service to a watch service as latter requires much less of it and of a different kind Bulova Precisionist is a very cool watch tho

I've been saving up for an Omega Seamaster for several years and every time I get the itch to buy a fake one, I purchase a relatively inexpensive Swiss watch to hold me over. Brands like Hamilton, Oris, and Tissot make excellent watches that hold their value and are the real thing. Fake watches just cheapen the whole watch hobby.
If a company can fake a luxury item which delivers everything the original can do, what does that say about the true value of the original? The reason the value is there for a Ferrari or a precious metal like gold is that they cannot be replicated. My point being that watches don't have the value the industry thinks they do and I wouldn't be surprised if they don't hold their value through real tough times that are probable in the coming decade.

In order to make a real fake it would need to be done with the same equipment as Omega and the know how. There will always be cut corners when paying 1/10 th the cost.
@@patrickkallow4721 Correct, but the coaxial is still not there (the movement beats at 28800) and you can still recognize it by the fact that the rep has the regulator (while the gen is a free sprung balance). Great job by the factories anyway.

There is something to be said about the skill needed to make something so close to the real thing at a fraction of the cost. This is not something anyone could do and honestly impresses me
An easy way you can tell is a screw is missing on the fake look near the balance wheel it's a little grub screw on the end ,I bought a blue one and realized soon as I had it in my hands the screw and just winding it was rough.
It's what Oscar Wilde said, "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness"... But really, these clones have gotten SCARY good. And really, objectively speaking, the question really does need to be answered. "When it looks nearly identical(only on macro level can you see differences on the face), is the price really worth it?"
it depends on who youre buying for. if you just want to look like you have a high end watch to other people then the fake is going to be good enough.
Marcquise White this is a great point. marketing have always sold us on craftsmanship and attention to detail for the high cost. But as this video shows, “craftsmanship” clearly doesn’t cost this much lol
I agree that many watches are overpriced strictly from the point of materials and production cost. However a painting that fetches millions is certainly not just the price of canvas and paint. As much as the fakes are impressive in reproducing the materials let's sit and watch those people produce an original design of their own. How desirable do you think their watches would be then?
@Marcquise White I agree that the same could be offered for less, but there is a lot that goes into delivering what Omega promises. A decorated in-house movement with a silicon hairspring that reaches an accuracy of 0/+5 sec is worth something. I agree, that the name Omega adds value as well, but in the video they discussed a replica at 1/10th the price. An unbranded watch that could actually preform as well as the authentic Omega would still fetch substantially more than the knock-off.
i know this quote from the office not oscar wilde lol
The reality is most watch lovers will never be able to justify $4000 for a watch and certainly not $10-15,000 for many watches like Rolex. These replica consumers are not a loss for Rolex or Omega since they were not in line to be a customer anyways. If the individuals fortune changes due to luck, hard work or a little of both, well then that fandom that made them buy the replica Rolex or Omega will probably lead them to buying the real thing given the chance. The reality is most non-enthusiasts don't know the luxury brands by sight anyways with maybe the exception of the Rolex and can't determine a $100 watch from a $100,000 watch.
If you can't afford a $5000 Swiss watch, them buy a $4000 or $3000, or even $2000 Swiss watch. There are fantastic Swiss brands in the entry level Swiss market. Brands such as Longines, Oris, Rado, etc, etc. No need to buy a fake Rolex or Omega. Heck, if even that's too much for you, buy a $500 Swiss watch from a brand such as Tissot or Hamilton. Won't be a Rolex, but at least these are old established brands that produce quality Swiss pieces at the lower end of the market, and they are not fakes. There's literally zero excuse to buy a fake watch
@@salty-as-heck9915 There is an excuse though, isn't there. Your argument is based on someone just wanting a Swiss watch, not a particular one. If you can afford £500 that buys you a Hamilton you never wanted or an Omega you really did, what will most choose? If they want a particular watch that they know is totally unaffordable, and find a replica that costs £500, go for it I say.
@@petercraggs2431 except the replica will never be the same as the real watch. The movement will be a cheaper Chinese or Japanese movement typically found in $100 to $400 watches, with less jewels, cheaper parts, lower beat rate, less accuracy. The materials of the dial, watch hands, etc., won't be the same and won't be finished with the same fit and finish and attention to detail...and I can say that from experience having owned everything from $200 Chinese Sea-gull watches, to all sorts of Seikos, Citizens, Orients, Tissot, Hamilton, Longines, Omega, Breitling, etc. Not to mention the replica watches will have zero resale value, whether I can resell my old Omega Seamaster auto from the late 1990s for $1000 over what I bought it for 11 years ago, and even the Longines Hydroconquest I'm wearing at the moment that I bought for $1000 with box and papers from a gray dealer a year ago I could flip right now for $800, and in 10 years I could probably sell it for $1,200 or so of I no longer like it. Try doing that with a replica, you can't. And a good watch is worth servicing and keeping with you for many decades, while replica watches are throw-away watches that you get rid of 5-6 years down the line when they stop working as no one will service them.
@@salty-as-heck9915 Funny that, because that's all you pay for a replica anyway... Do you think if people could afford a £2000 watch, they wouldn't buy one? But most people can't so guess what... If you paid attention to the video, you'd see that they both actually run at 28k vpm. And you can resell your omega for $1000? Wow. On the replica marker, you can also sell watches for what you paid for them. You're talking about a world you clearly don't understand.
@@petercraggs2431 you might want to read more carefully.. I said I could sell it for $1,000 more than what I paid for it... So not only did it keep its value, but it's actually worth more now. Anyway, buy what you want, but personally I'd prefer real to replica for all the reasons I mentioned.
1:36 the fake one is on the right, it can be noticed a finest wave engriving on the left dial due to the lasser cut.
The thing that gave it away for me was the 12 o'clock marker. On the fake it's noticeably misaligned (left)
I think that it's terrible that these fakes are being sold. Who does this!? Where do people buy these? I mean specifically where? And how much?

I made an appointment to go see it, never intending to buy it. The seller, a stereotype grom Central Casting, in spite of it's newness and lack of papers (there was a nice fake Omega box though) kept of course insisting it was genuine, and even loweried his price. I still don't understand who actually buys these. You could fool me with it from across a room, but anyone who knows what this is (most people can't tell an MVMT from an Omega, really) will spot it as at least 'weird' from any closer. The best wrist watch I ever say was a well dressed gentleman in Vegas who had this gorgeous wrist watch but when I looked closer had no hands on the face and said "I don't f..ing, care what time it is" I was 30 years younger and still remember how classy that was.
I collect genuine vintage watches but hey these clones are collectible without a doubt and I take my hat off to the ingenious way That they are replicated
I have a fake breitling for Bentley and it’s lasted over a decade. It’s a great looking watch although not perfect. I’m not rich so I only have one “nice” watch and a few great watches that are cheaper. The fake breitling is my go to for dressing up, and to an untrained eye, it looks like a phenomenal expensive watch. Kinda scary, and definitely makes you think about buying second hand.
It would be interesting if you could go further into the difference between the movements, taking one apart and showing the difference in quality of the minute machining and movement. You showed a small segment of a gear, but if you could go even deeper it would be helpful!
Omega is happy to slap 007 on a Seamaster and charge YOU double. Loyalty goes both ways.
The 007 and other "special" versions are not intended for everyone. Nobody needs to buy them. You have choices. I could, but I don't own any. Its not my thing regadless of price.
@@bradleybaker8894 Lol right..

Philosophically..Look it is real ! You mean Genuine Manufacturer real! Philosophically every thing is real....But philosophically Nothing is what it seems to be anyway! I am just not gonna go shopping anywhere near you!
It is very hard to perfect replication especially the chronometer movements, the appearance it could be yes.
Roberto Reynaldo Maybe it is just a genuine Omega reject.....that seems much more likely!
Ken Hmm....I can tell you have a copy then! Lol
Except that in that case still the first would be the original, and the second would be a copy.
Timeless elegance at its best.
The fake doesn't seem like low quality, seems like pretty great quality actually.
Yep. Let's face facts. The average guy buying one of these watches isn't going to be deep-sea diving with it, nor have a need for an ultra-precise chronometer. He wants something with a good brand name that looks quality and impressive on his wrist. If a fake can be 98% convincing, that's more than enough to rationalize spending $400 instead of $4,000. Of course if money is no object than the real one is a no-brainer. And there is of course much to be said about knowing that you own something with that kind of history and engineering behind it. But many people, when faced with the actual choice of spending their own money, will not be able to justify that kind of money when something this good is available as an alternative. Lower quality fakes are easy to walk away from. But good ones... not so much.
jlozano2014 if you can’t see the glaring differences you deserve a fake.

@@Dr.TJ_Eckleburg for the most part I agree with you. But I think the person that can easily afford the real thing won't buy a fake unless they don't truly appreciate fine watches. And when it comes to watches this expensive, if you can't "easily" afford it, then you actually cannot afford it.
I can tell you first hand that it is - I own one. Comes from VSF factory, killer product. But a fake nonetheless, and I feel pretty fake wearing it, which has led me to just normally rock an apple watch instead. lol
"Do you think brands are asking too much money?" Yes, of course. "Are you happy to wear a fake?" No, of course. I prefer to buy cheaper watches (good watches but with less money invested in marketing) or save to buy a real high end watch on the second hand market.

I think the same about homages. Rather have a good original seiko sarb, instead of a homage watch thats just not it.

@@christurner6430 and rightly so. Sorry, but these swiss brands are WAY overpricved. Price gouging at its best. They can go the way of the Dinosaur imho.
Actually, there are wealthy people who do just that - wear replicas of original watches they own. This was mentioned in a recent article I found in my feed. The reason was they were afraid they would get robbed in public just for their watches. There was a guy in Northern California who was mugged for his Richard Mille, so yeah, it happens, and I understand the fear.
Serious question. Shouldn't high-end watches be cheaper these days because of the introduction of precision high-tech machinery? I doubt if a watch buyer now would be paying for exactly the same expensive labor that was put into the older watches.
no. they do 3d print some stuff now, but it still needs hours of craftsmanship to finish and assemble 300+ parts.
@@petercrenfield Yep, 3D printed metals are commonly used to make complex, light and durable parts.
@@petercrenfield A common method uses lasers to melt specific portions of a powder together. Very probably. Judging by the replicas I've seen in person I guess that e.g. Rolex could sell their watches at 30-40% of what they are asking and still make good profit. (although that would most likely drop their desireability by the same amount) That said the materials/details and tolerances also evolved over time. Acrylic, brass, paint and aluminium have been replaced with materials like saphire, steel, white gold and ceramic.
And yet a Rolex has exploded in retail price.
Ive just bought a couple. We'll see what they're like when they arrive.

I’m a watch collector, and I have both genuine and high end fakes in my collection. You vastly overestimate how much the average person knows about watches. Go down the street and maybe 2 or 3 people can even visualize what a submariner looks like. I spoke with a guy who owned a dayjust and told me he was a huge fan of Rolex, and told him that my favorite Rolex was a Milgauss. He have never even heard of it.

I believe many of us get a bit crazy about a watch that we have only seen online and that is in the upper bracket of our bank account. It's easy enough to spot in the closups - lack of fine bevelling on movement parts etc. But it's very good nonetheless.
If anyone is having trouble trying to determine if a coaxial Omega is genuine, check the beat rate on a timegrapher. It should be 25,200 (3.5 hz). The high quality fakes will have a beat rate of 28,800 (4 hz).
My jeweler said that fakes are so good now, it's hard to know if you have an authentic watch. The part that bothered me is when they started making quartz watches and STILL wanted thousands of dollars for a steel watch. It proved that you are just buying the name, not a better time piece. I understand the work that goes in to mechanical watches, but the quartz ones are a joke.
I will give you the easiest way to tell the fake and real using modern omega as an example. Don't need a loop. Have your watchmaker throw it on the machine, if it beats anything other than 25,200 bph, it's fake fake fake. $1000 super clones may use off the shelf swiss movements. None of them have the resources, or care to build an in house movement.

I don’t see a lot of people commenting on accuracy in terms of timekeeping. The Omega Seamaster is COSC and METAS certified. Mine runs about half a second a day fast. Just incredibly accurate for a mechanical watch. If I wanted a $500 watch I would just buy a Hamilton brand new from a dealer.
I agree, but I don't think many people really care that much. If you want really, really accurate, you could just buy a quartz. It's the prestige of owning something high-end that's the main reason people buy these things.
